Soccer House hostel, white elephant

THE Namibia Football Association (NFA) Soccer House hostel, inaugurated late last year by President Sam Nujoma, has since then never accommodated any single national team.

The building constructed with millions of money from the International Federation of Football Association (Fifa) Goal Project, erected an 18 room hostel solely for the purpose of housing national teams during international competitions instead of being accommodated at hotels. The Brave Warriors as well as their visitors have been accommodated at local hotels rather than at the Soccer House hostel.NFA Secretary-General, Alpheus Gaweseb, told Nampa on enquiry yesterday that players could not be accommodated, as there are no blankets, bedding-sheets and towels, adding that the hostel is only equipped with beds and mattresses only.Gaweseb said at this point in time the NFA Executive has urged the Namibia Football Consortium (NFC) to settle the balance needed in order to purchase these items.Asked about the catering aspect once they start accommodating teams, he said: “We will consult service providers’ companies regarding meals for players.”Hopefully, with the 2005 Council of Southern Africa Football Association (COSAFA) qualifying rounds, the Brave Warriors might enjoy the comfort of the Soccer House hostel.- NampaThe Brave Warriors as well as their visitors have been accommodated at local hotels rather than at the Soccer House hostel.NFA Secretary-General, Alpheus Gaweseb, told Nampa on enquiry yesterday that players could not be accommodated, as there are no blankets, bedding-sheets and towels, adding that the hostel is only equipped with beds and mattresses only.Gaweseb said at this point in time the NFA Executive has urged the Namibia Football Consortium (NFC) to settle the balance needed in order to purchase these items.Asked about the catering aspect once they start accommodating teams, he said: “We will consult service providers’ companies regarding meals for players.”Hopefully, with the 2005 Council of Southern Africa Football Association (COSAFA) qualifying rounds, the Brave Warriors might enjoy the comfort of the Soccer House hostel.- Nampa
