ON 13 July 2006 at about 05h30 an Isuzu double cab was stolen from my premises in Hochlandrand in Windhoek.
The security company Proforce arrived about 5 minutes after they were informed about the theft and undertook to alarm the City Police and the Namibian Police. At about 08h00 I finished all formalities at the Windhoek Charge Office of Nampol. The officer on duty said that all road blocks and patrols would be informed of the stolen vehicle.Just after 10h00 I travelled with an Isuzu double cab, very similar to the stolen one, through the road block towards Okahandja. The police officers (and there were three of them) were seated at a table and did not even look up when I drove through the road block.Just outside Otjiwarongo, police officers stood next to the road, apparently checking on speeding vehicles. In Outjo, a traffic officer cautioned me to wear my seat belt when I drove past him.Not once was the vehicle which was very similar to the stolen one, checked by a police officer. So much for detection and prevention of crime. It is not the lack of money or scare resources which allow criminals to rein Namibia. The lack of diligence, discipline and pride of many police officers from top to bottom are probably the biggest factors indirectly contributing to the escalation of crime.Sigi Eimbeck WindhoekAt about 08h00 I finished all formalities at the Windhoek Charge Office of Nampol. The lack of diligence, discipline and pride of many police officers from top to bottom are probably the biggest factors indirectly contributing to the escalation of crime.
