* IN Namibia we need to wake up, I have not seen a sleeping nation like this. We need Paulo Freire books to liberate our minds.

Food For Thought
Do MPs lack commitment?* PARLIAMENTARY hearings have been shown up to be a total farce by the National Council with the ‘Spy Bill’. The credibility of the legislative branch of Government has been severely undermined. Parliamentarians don’t deserve respect for their lack of commitment to basic democratic principles.Politics* HOW on earth can we talk about democracy and the national broadcaster is only promoting one party at the expense of others with taxpayers’ money?* SHAME on the NBC’s political rallies coverage! You remind us of the old colonial days!* I’M really disappointed with our so-called leaders. They want to change the Constitution, which they vowed to protect and defend, just to be absent from NA sessions. * IT seems that politicians think they are untouchable. They use everything for free, while we suffer. They think they are more powerful than us the electorate. I’m referring to the failed ‘Spy Bill’ amendments, tax money wasted. We must teach them to listen this time, as we are more powerful than they think they are.* DEAR Namibians, please vote for change. The independence of this country was mainly obtained by people who had wanted change from the former oppressors as people were dissatisfied with the regime. Now since we are not satisfied with the current government and its practices, change has to take place. Same difference. There is nothing unpatriotic about that, in fact it is the only way we can save this country from the complete collapse it is heading to. Change is now inevitable.* WAKE up Namibia – democracy is not a majority party of 80%. Real democracy is a majority below 50% and having to form a partnership with another party to run a country! * The Damara nation has an unwavering King Justice //Garoeb who speaks on behalf of and represents the nation at large. We also have the Chiefs like ‘ Immanuel /Gaseb’ who represents one of the various sub groups. Please people some of our ‘so called’ leaders fail to understand this fact. Some chiefs are used by Swapo to segregate our people hence crossing their jurisdictions.(signing off land deals, stopping /Hai Hab progress announcements on the radio and etc). Although there have been a few attempts to break down the ceremonial stage where the annual cultural activities take place in Okombahe, we will gather as the nation in November.Election Fever* GIVE us free and fair elections please – and let the best political party win! Avoid hatred and intimidation please!* THE trial-awaiting inmates at the Tses Police cells have been left out. I am reminding ECN officers to come back for these people.- Uncle Dave* WE farmworkers of Omaheke Region are not registered for the election. Electoral Commission, please do something. We want our voices heard.- Elifas* DOES the ECN decision to extend registration hours mean it contravenes section 16 of the Labour Act when employing the registration staff? Are the staff not put at risk at 21h00? Were the staff consulted? Oh yes! They do not have contracts so are open to abuse. Next they will not be paid.* BELIEVE me or not, we are expecting long queues at electoral registration points on the last day, especially in Oshakati. At strategic places for registration like shopping centres, where many people come for something else and could also register in the process, ECN is nowhere to be seen. Running The Show* PM, Nahas Angula can you please tell the nation why does the OPM not review the salary scale of engineers or technical civil servants? President Pohamba are you aware that engineers who work in Government are getting four times less than engineers in NGOs, subsequently engineers are not remaining in government institutions. – Disappointed engineerBouquets And Brickbats* WELL done to The Namibian team on revealing NWR secrets! Please make your move to NTB as there are many irregularities also!- Menda Iita, Khomasdal, Windhoek* WELL done to Quinton van Rooyen and the organising team who brought the Sevens tournament to our country. Hopefully this can inspire Government to take sports a lot more seriously in this country. – A rugby fan* CITY of Windhoek: We, the residents of Longa Street in Otjomuise, want to thank the City of Windhoek for cleaning and starting interlocking our lovely street. We are really happy about the betterment of your people. Please keep it up!- FK Nafuka, resident* I DO support Cde Mandela Kapere on his article in The Namibian of last Friday: ‘To Ban or Not to Ban’. He just forget to mention that The Namibian used to insert copies of the educational paper Abacus that many youths are looking for. especially at this time they face exams.Mandela Kapere of the NYC* I SALUTE Mandela Kapere of NYC on his article in your paper on Friday. He’s a young leader with insight. Keep it up, this country can only go on with people like you.* MY gosh what’s wrong with our people? Is it really cool to play music so loud from your cell in public? Nah nah, it’s totally unfashionable and distracting!- Uno KahirekeTalking Taxis* IF only the Windhoek Traffic Police could start focusing on the scourge of the streets – taxis. They do as they please without any consequences! In And From The Regions* AN INMATE at Mariental Police Station wants to know it is true that if you have a rape case, you must be kept in custody until the case is finalised. Please Ombudsman, I am a proud Namibian citizen.* NORED or ZESCO whichever is responsible for power blackout(s) in Caprivi, we are fighting poverty and yet you keep throwing it back on us. These frequent blackouts cause damage to expensive electrical appliances, adding fuel to this fire, no insurance and no reliable repairers in the vicinity. With this experience I predict the envisaged power extension project will not be short of embarrassments. * IT was so embarrassing seeing my former governor drunk and gambling at a public place/bar in broad daylight. Let’s respect the offices we hold if not ourselves.- Shaun* PUNYU Village in Oshaakondwa-Onethindi. The surroundings are very dirty and need urgent action. The place is in a very bad condition.ACC Alert* SOMEONE is getting crazy for money at Natis Valley in Rundu. How can Angolans get Namibian driving licences and which language are they using? Is it sign language? Anti-Corruption Commission do something. * THE misuse of GRN vehicles is still a major problem in the Caprivi Region: two weeks ago we all know leaders were drinking with a Government car and even went as far as insulting, hindering and obstructing a Police officer on duty. Corruption in that region is like swine flu. Please Anti-Corruption Commission strengthen your service to Katima.- Viva aluta * TO the Anti-Corruption Commission, I think you should investigate the VIP division because there are some members receiving danger allowances while some are not getting anything. But we are all performing the same tasks and responsibilities.* ACC, can you investigate the smuggling of medicine from Nankudu district hospital pharmacy to Zambia?Education* CAN the Ministry of Education respond to our application for scholarships offered by the Republic of Cuba. We need to know if we succeeded or not. We need your help and our applications should be considered.* MINISTRY of Education, please pay our study loans. There is only one month left for us to write the exams.- Concern student, Polytechnic of NamibiaGeneral* DEAR The Namibian’s Editor, I sent many SMSes to inform the public about the refugee issue in Namibia but all of them except one were not published. The last one was to refute what the UNHCR country representative told the Head of State. Refugees are looking for ways to leave this country because of the mismanagement of the refugee issue by both the Ministry of Home Affairs and UNHCR officials. Please inform the public. They do exist!* I WOULD love to own a solar-powered cellphone! Service Please* PLEASE NamPost, reduce the price for post boxes. Every year the price jumps up and the service is still the same. Please be like the NBC.- Concerned Namibian* TO Nedbank, Standard Bank, Bank Windhoek and FNB Otapi branches, why is there no single ATM for deposits, only withdrawals. Are you afraid that we don’t know how to deposit at ATMs as is the case in Oshakati, Windhoek?- Disappointed Outapi residentWe try to pay up* LAST week I ran from one Post Office to another to pay for my TV licence, only to be told there are no licence books. NBC, what do we have to do to get one?- Your coastal client* WITH an amount of N$20 000 in my notice deposit account I cannot borrow N$50 000 from ‘my bank’. Otherwise I must have collateral! I can only borrow N$20 000 or less. I do not have a house to offer these sharks. What will be the need if I can withdraw my own? I really do not know what I benefit from these monsters called banks.* PLEASE can workers at Home Affairs at Oshakati improve their service. They must learn to be helpful but not rude.* PLEASE NamWater Ondangwa office why are you closing your office over lunch hours? Mr CEO do something. It’s our money that you live on but we have to be in a long queue even for a simple query or wait for your only cashier (lady) who closes the office over lunch time. * BETTER Service Jet Stores Rundu. Sometimes only one cashier or none at all. Please do something.* I WAS once a proud customer at two service stations in Ongwediva and Oshakati. But recently I have to wait for about 10 min to fill up my car but one can see the petrol attendants sitting chatting or leaning against the wall. The most annoying thing is, after I’ve waited that long I was told to go to another tank because where I parked it was not working. I have to be in a queue of two cars again. Because of this unacceptable poor service I was recorded late at my work. Please management give training to your employees on customer care. The service has dropped badly unlike when these stations started operating. – Once a proud customerLost and Found* RICHTER Hendrik your full birth certificate is here. Every year things get worse. Money ends up where it doesn’t belong and athletes end up suffering during the COSASA games. No wonder we always come last because NSSU is run by wrong people who are just good at pleasing the nation by telling stories.- Athlete!* PLEASE Eleven Arrows, bring back your Zimbabwean coach before the ship sinks. What’s up? You have the best players, I’m not sure of about your technical team. JJD did his part. Time is money.* AGE cheating is bad for our football, does the NFA not feel ashamed for (allegedly) changing the ages of all those players? How do you develop soccer when the real u-17s can’t play?* BARRY Rukoro was clearly unmasked by Ali Akan. His behaviour leaves a lot to be desired. Well done Mr Akan.- Ou Kauno* MR Rukoro what an embarrassment. Mr Akan put you in a tight corner on Offside. Instead of denying the truth bring development to Keetmanshoop.- Suide maak vrede * MATURITY is not the size of the body or having more years on your account. Therefore it’s high time that Mr Barry Rukoro shows maturity. Our football will suffer with you people in charge. From: Tired* PLEASE Mr Rukoro, we are very disappointed in you. A whole hour and you could not tell the nation what the plans for the NFA concerning football development are. Remember if Mr Akan fails, Black Africa fails. If you fail, the whole nation fails.* MR Barry Rukoro, all he does when on TV is protect his NFA team, while in fact really doing very little. He doesn’t even want to give other people a chance to talk. He only has documented proof on some things. Why not on everything that the public want clearance on. Please get the NFA in order.
