SMSes Of The Day : Wednesday

* I HAVE been looking for a piece of land to buy, but couldn’t afford it. But l was so stupid not knowing that in Windhoek one just has to clear a piece of land and it becomes yours. Thanks Jerry Ekandjo for your wise leadership, l will start clearing my land in two market days.

* WHO does [Swapo Secretary General Pendukeni] Iivula-Ithana think she is? Under apartheid there was a ‘Group Areas Act’, which gave exclusive rights over specified pieces of land to certain groups. Apartheid was defeated! I don’t know what Iivula-Ithana and her ilk fought for but we fought for freedom of speech, the right to access to each and every square centimetre of public land in Namibia and against discrimination of people who use their right to choose any political party they want to belong to. Iivula-Ithana’s speech reminds me of the olden days … We fought for a new constitution and against any form of discrimination. How can those who claim to be the custodians of the liberation struggle grossly violate the principles we fought for? If a “white” person would say the same things, s/he would be called “racist”, “oppressor” or “Boer”. Food for Thought* WAR veterans came home in 1989, by that time I had a 10-month old baby girl, my sister in-law had a one-and-a-half-year-old boy. All parents have the responsibility of sending their children to school, from kindergarten to tertiary level. My daughter is now a second-year nursing student and my sister-in-law’s son is a teacher at one of the schools in Windhoek. Who is to be blamed? Their parents or themselves?* HELLO. War veterans’ kids camping at Veterans’ Ministry, some of them have small babies, some are pregnant and some sick. Please is this not child abuse? Please Woman and Child abuse officials rescue the poor angels from that unhygienic place! Red Cross, women’s organisations, churches, Dr (Richard) Kamwi, Mr Phil ya Nangoloh, please act as soonest.Office Block* WE love and respect our Founding Father, but I don’t think the building that will cost the taxpayers N$21 million is really necessary. He has an office in the new State House that’s costing the country even more and that’s really enough. There are more important issues that can be solved with the money. Please!* WHO makes the decisions regarding Government projects? Whoever is responsible has lost it and must hang their heads in shame. They are proving daily how the suffering masses are of little or no concern to them. There is a crisis with children born in exile, college lecturers, insufficient study grants, the list is endless. Yet Government approved N$21 million to build an office for a retired president! Is this a priority above many others or is it another way to thank the patriarch? No wonder quorums are hardly formed in the National Assembly. Important things are shelved or haphazardly done for them to have as much time as they can to enjoy their big wads in return of a raw deal. It’s now time to call a spade by its real name, compatriots! – Ingashipola, Oshakati* FORMER President (Sam) Nujoma, if you are a true Father of the Nation, refuse the new office, show us that you are really our father. – Concerned Young Person* OUR nation should show some respect. Don’t you think the Founding Father deserves that office? Think about the job creation this office will bring. – ANA* HOW is it possible for the GRN to build offices valued at N$21 million while there is no money to build more schools or classrooms? There are schools with no water and electricity here in Windhoek. * WHY can people not realise that our children need a paediatric hospital instead of wasting money on a former president’s office. At 9 East at Central Hospital there is no space for sick children. Please let’s think about our future generation.* IT is disturbing to know about the N$21 million that is going to build an office for a retired head of state, you people are not serious at all! What is that office going to contribute to the development of this country? Og! – Ndasuunye* THERE is a list of kids who finished Grade 12 but there’s no money to further their studies. N$21 million will help a lot, instead of building unneeded offices. Let the former President share the offices with the current President at the new State House.* HOW many classrooms can the Government build with the N$21,6 million the Swapo Government is spending on one person who is on official retirement by the way?* FATHER of the nation please stop the building of the office and allocate that N$21,6 million for a training centre in the Karas Region.* WHY does the Swapo Party spend a lot of money on Mr Nujoma! Please Swapo members tell the reason behind this!Politics* THE eight opposition parties that proposed to postpone the by-election at Tobias Hainyeko are wasting public funds. All parties must know the number of their supporters.* WE are sick and tired of being fooled by ministers with no direction like (Justice Minister Pendukeni) Ithana, (Deputy Labour Minister) Petrus Iilonga, (Regional and Local Government, Housing and Rural Development Minister) Jerry Ekandjo and (SPYL Secretary Elijah) Ngurare. How can a person promise they will transport students daily and build facilities while they have made themselves ministers for life while doing nothing for almost 18 years. – Concerned* WE, as Namibians should by now know that political violence only brings poverty and nothing good. Learn from Angola, Zimbabwe, DRC to name a few. Let us live as brothers and sisters but not enemies despite our differences in politics. Today, longtime friends are divided because one is Swapo while the other is RDP. People don’t trust each other any more as shown by every day interaction for example, that bar is for Swapo or RDP members only. Please, let us not be used by hungry politicians as for they are fighting for their stomachs. Then they leave us not talking to each other. – True citizen, Odibo* MEME Sofia Shaningwa [Khomas Governor] was crying on NBC TV that she was not informed by the Police about the incidents at One Nation place. Now let me ask her to come out and tell the nation when was the first time the Police contacted her before they arrested or disciplined anyone who is disturbing peace around Windhoek? And under which Police protocols does it state that the Governor should be consulted before the Police do their job?* CAN anyone tell this nation which types of crime are tolerated in this country. We are sick and tired of lawmakers defending some of the crimes committed in public. Meme (Pendukeni) Ithana is a Minister of Justice and we expected better than what she said. City of Windhoek should address the public about these open spaces around the city as to who owns them. Please employ someone to clean these areas because we don’t want individuals claiming ownership of places.* PRESIDENT (Hifikepunye) Pohamba, what do you expect from General S Ndeitunga to maintain law and order when Swapo high officials are shouting at and insulting the Police officers?* SWAPO says it plans to build a hospital, clinic, secondary school and a youth centre in the Tobias Hainyeko Constituency of Katutura. For 18 years, Swapo Party was controlling that constituency. Why has it not done that in the past?* ARE the people who went into exile in 1989 just when Swapo was repatriated also war veterans? They spent a few months there, never participated in any battle yet they’re registered as war vets. Others like Swapo founder and commander Andreas Shipanga do not qualify after making so many sacrifices. What a serious case of Swapo injustice.* MR Willem Konjore please leave politics out and come back to your community. We the Roman Catholic Community need you. Remember politics is not the same as it was before and it is not meant for you the church leaders. Things change by the day and politics is a dirty game. Look at what Bishop (Zephania) Kameeta has done. We also expect the same from you. Enough is enough.* SWAPO members are the downfall of Swapo itself. They think they can use force to intimidate other parties. That is encouraging people like me to vote for the RDP next year even if I am not a member. They are immature and the drama is not funny either.* I LIVE in the surroundings of municipal open space. I will start cleaning it and start claiming ownership of the place. City of Windhoek, please come clean up these open areas.General* I AM really surprised that the Namibian press has not fully and comprehensively covered the financial impact of the US financial crisis on the Namibian economy. Is it because Namibians have huge financial reserves? If not, why is the whole world talking about it through their press and not Namibia. As a common man on the street, I feel the press should cover the issue to make policymakers aware of the hardships the man on the street is facing. – MoyoBouquets And Brickbats* GOLDEN points for St Mary’s Hospital, Rehoboth. My wife and I visited the OPD department on October 20 with our sick child. We were welcomed with a warm smile. Throughout the examination, the nurse explained everything to us. We not only ended up with medicine, but with health education, and the biggest respect for nurses again. You made a difference Sister Trudy. Keep shining.* I JUST do not get it that Namibia sponsors European football games for live broadcast and does not sponsor Namibian games live such as the Brave Warriors or the African Cup of Nations. We are not all European football lovers so why is that our favourite programmes such as ‘Generations’ and ‘Katalina and Sebby’ have to be postponed for late broadcast for some live European football games some of us know nothing about? They are the ones that must come later. Whatever the purpose for showing them should not disrupt NBC’s normal schedule.* GAZZA and The Dogg should stop fighting each other and start fighting poverty.* THE Rambler’s [column in The Weekender] remarks are made tongue in cheek and are not meant to insult. This is my opinion. I hope Mr Obama becomes president and makes the Namibian Basters proud!Education* WHY do this year’s exams have so many errors? I would like to know what criteria they will use to mark these papers. – Concerned learner* OLD Mutual Namibia has spent about N$120 000 on the acquisition and distribution of the 1 000 desks to identified five schools in the North which are Ondjabayonghalu, Onankali South, Nalitungwe, Onankali North and Oshitukathitu. What do they think about the South and some other areas in Namibia? – Ahrens* I DON’T know if the superintendent of Max Makushe has eyes to see what’s going on with the food that we are eating in the hostel. Let him go to other school hostels and see what other learners are eating. I am not happy with the situation.* PROFESSOR Angula and Professor Mwandemele of Unam, are you aware that the lecturers in the Faculty of Health – main and northern campus – struggle to speak English? No wonder we fail tests and exams. In And From The Regions* ACC could you please do an investigation inside the Eenhana Town Council? There are allegations of misuse of money, tribalism and favouritism.* MR Nangombe of Nabta, can you please inform the nation on Oshiwambo Radio about taxi fares in town here in the North before somebody loses his life over 50c. Every day is war, commuters vs drivers. This is serious. After my SMS you did not make any changes and how many times should I report this to the police. Please help us. We rely on you sir. Thank you for quick response. – Concerned CitizenTailender* NEVER lose a chance of saying a kind word. – Readers are most welcome to send a short “tail-end’ thought – something to ponder, as one of our readers recommended, or something genuinely humorous. – NewsdeskFood for Thought * WAR veterans came home in 1989, by that time I had a 10-month old baby girl, my sister in-law had a one-and-a-half-year-old boy.
