* THIS weekend’s exciting results in the African Cup of Nations Qualifiers and the Rugby WC proved that our nation’s true strength is vested in the men and women who constitute our nationhood. Let’s put the past behind us and afford every Namibian to represent our nation strictly on merit and there will be nothing stopping the Land of the Brave!
* I’M wondering. Did democracy come with corruption to this country? Some corrupt officials are earning their salaries through crooked ways. Is there nobody honest in this country who can investigate the buying of drivers licences? I know of young people who can’t read nor write, yet they have obtained driving licences, and are employed in the Government. They are even our Ministers’ chauffeurs. There’s evidence. Please introduce Honesty as a subject in schools. Food for thought* WHY is Omuthiya going to be upgraded as the administrative capital of Oshikoto Region? Can’t the vibrant Tsumeb offer such a service to the people of the region? Or this is just the Government’s strategy to develop the four ‘O’ Regions . Our leaders must know that people are not blind! Remember, discrimination of this sort has brought civil wars in many African countries.* SHOULDN’T our Government consult us before requesting loans worth millions from foreign governments or banks? Or are we only important during elections? – RCB* WHY does the money for the State House never run out, but is always increasing while other projects intended to help the poor always fail? – E Katzao Rugby Blues* THE World Cup ticket scam is the most disgusting international embarrassment for Namibia and Namibians and the perpetrators deserve to be crucified. It is also a reflection of a dishonest practice and I’m sure the IRB did their homework before banning the NRU Executive.* WORLD Cup Tickets: The NRU has a Bank Account. Why was the money of those tickets paid into a law firm’s account? ACC, PLEASE INVESTIGATE!!* CONRADIE has shamed and embarrassed the nation by showing the world that (some) Namibians are corrupt. Please, The Namibian* COME on The Namibian! Namibia qualified for ACN, pushed Ireland to the limit, and our girl gets booted from the BBA house, yet none of this makes the front page. (Sorry!! The Ireland match and BBA eviction happened past our printing deadline, unfortunately. But we are looking at how we can better accommodate this sort of thing in future. The ACN was on what sports fanatics regard as the front page of the newspaper – the back page, which is the main sports page.) Congratulations* Congrats Brave Warriors – you are really brave and you scored brave goals. To the NFA management this time you must pay the players all the outstanding money you owe them. Please do it before Mr Noa interfere. It’s a shame that you request the government to pay the players then you don’t meet your obligation. So, pay them!!* CONGRATULATIONS, I wish our national soccer team all the best for a job well done. You make us proud and keep it up guys. – Naffy* RUGBY. The team make us proud, we almost forget the scandal. – Jimmo what a ball* I HATED rugby because I thought it was boring, but after watching our boys playing Ireland I love it. The boys lost but they were great. I’m proud of them.* WELL done Brave Warriors! Thanks to Rudolph Bester for his two goals which booked us a place to the Ghana 2008 African Nations Cup.* I WOULD like to thank the coach of the Brave Warriors for his hard work. I am very happy to hear the result. Mr Ben you are the the best.* NAMIBIA, Biltong Boere, you made us proud last night. Namibia let us support our team and keep the faith.* WE must feel proud of the Namibian rugby team. They lost bravely. More Namibians should show Namibian patriotism rather than showing it for the Springboks.* BRAVE Warriors and the Welwitschias, you make me the proudest Namibian ever. Thank you for the superb performance.* A JOB well done to our Blue Jersey Boys, Good play in France. – A.A.* BRAVE Warriors: Credit should go to the COACH, his assistants, players and the technical committee. With the FEW RESOURCES you have been given you made the NATION PROUD. – Dr Chuku* CONGRATULATIONS to the Brave Warriors on surprising the Ethiopians on their home ground. Thanks to Big Ben and his Warriors and to the Welwitschias – what a performance against Ireland. Keep up the good work the whole of Namibia is supporting you, and for the Warriors, we are going to Ghana. – Seth* AG shame some of the Namibia rugby boys don’t know the words of the national anthem, but at least they did us proud. We made headlines this morning. Go NAMIBIA Go.* BEING a proud Namibian, congrats to all NAMIBIANS and the sons of the soil, the Brave fighters, the coaches and the supporters club. – Alustensius Bush* CONGRATS to Nigeria for winning the under 17 Football World Cup. That’s a win for Africa! It will be easy to keep the cup home next year. – Jakirutzopuwo* FIRST of all let me congratulate Namibia’s soccer coach Ben, because he’s the first to be blamed if the team don’t win. A job well done man. Word of thanks goes to all Brave Warriors players keep it up guys you make us proud. – T.K., Opuwo Big ups!* BOB (Kandetu of the NBC) give our Meryl (Big Brother housemate) a job as a TV presenter: Its the right thing to do.* PROPS to our BBA housemate Meryl!* FELLOW Namibians and fans of the Big Brother house. I really think that Meryl needs our support! Let’s stand up and do anything to keep her in the house! – Wa Dongo a.k.a Sir Matti (Sorry, Wa Dongo. Meryl’s now out of the house. And what a loss for thousands of viewers across Africa. But perhaps we can lobby for her to make a surprise return! That would really add a twist to the plot. By the way, Meryl touches down at Hosea Kutako airport at 15h20 today. – News Editor)* I AM not a tribalist but l just want to know why Meryl is referred to as an Owambo (by some)? Is it only the Owambos who’ve got the right to criticise. I hope the offended Damara-Nama is now happy since she was evicted. Why are we still so tribalist in an independent country – not all the Owambos are well off? (Thanks to you and T – see SMS below. You echo what we’ve been writing in response to those couple of SMSes – that we’re all Namibians. It doesn’t matter whether Meryl is Oshi-speaking or not. We should be proud of our various cultures, but not use tribalism to put up walls between each other. Let’s embrace our independence. I’m not Oshi or Damara-Nama, and I’m NOT happy that Meryl, our independent woman, has been evicted! – News Editor) * I’M a Damara and young and “wild” just like Meryl, so Owambos be at peace – all cultures have their “wild children”. Keep your heads up. Much respect. – T From the regions* MUNICIPAL mayors and councillors, especially the Tsumeb Council, could you tell us where you get money for the creation of new positions and when friends are to be appointed while you bill us to go sleep on empty stomachs. How can a small and financially struggling municipality like Tsumeb create a special advisors’ position to the Mayor’s office? Can’t the CEO provide the needed advice. Please stop playing with our money.* ROAMING goats and donkeys are a concern at Omaruru. You cannot leave your yard open – then the goats come eating every flower. We want to live in beautiful surroundings with nice flowers. Please Omaruru Mayor, do something. – Kavenondjamo* WE who live at Omaruru are dying from dust. Our streets in Ozondje location are not tarred and we do not have electricity in Hakahana settlement. We are sick and tired of empty promises.* THE Otjiwarongo Show was a disaster this year. Can they outsource it or start today planning for next year.* THANK you to the Otjiwarongo Municipality for bringing local artists to our show.* WE the community of Ohalushu Village in Ohangwena Region are very devastated by someone’s wild animals, such as tigers killing our goats. To the owner: please feed your animals.* THERE are some (alleged) irregular activities at the Rundu Town Council. How could the technical department for this town council employ qualified technicians for nearly two years and deny them signing a contract with them and pay them peanuts? When enquiries are directed to the office of the head of water and sanitation, we are threatened with dismissal. Two were dismissed without conducting a disciplinary hearing, the reason given they were temporary employees.* PLEASE, your worship, Oshakati Mayor, do everything in your power to clean up one of our prides in the north, the town of Oshakati.* WE have a serious problem with water at the Uutsathima Combined School in the Omusati Region and it negatively affects learning and teaching. The borehole frequently breaks down and once it breaks it takes a long time for it to be fixed. The water is not good for human consumption. The supply of safe water is irregular and it is done after sweating blood. Little interest is given to the school in terms of everything. There is almost no development going on. The Ministry need to do something serious. – Teacher* HOSPITAL problems at Enana. On August 8 this year, there was no running water. Can you imagine delivery taking place. Can you imagine no water for the whole day. Why can’t Enana hospital have a reservoir for emergencies. The management must pull up their shocks.Education* I WANT to ask why the Government keeps on training teachers when there is no shortage of teachers? Many teachers are in the stress without a job for two years. – KFJ* WE’RE experiencing problems at Ella du Plessis High School (Khomasdal). Teachers don’t want to give us examination results because we didn’t settle outstanding fees. We want to apply at Unam or Polytechnic, but can’t do so without results. The Minister of Education must help Grade 12 pupils.* ATTENTION Education Minister: The Caprivi College of Education experiences poor management and insufficient food, inadequate number of lecturers, blocked toilets, kitchen workers not serving students, they just cook and leave it up to us to dish up. Help us before it gets worse. – Concerned student* MR Director of the Ohangwena Region we need a teacher conference in Endola circuit. The last time such a conference was held was in the 1990’s.* CONCORDIA Hostel: I was suspended unfairly last term. I am tempted to ask whether the supervisor will ever change his behaviour. He does whatever pleases him and feels like doing as if he owns the hostel. He must show respect to the learners and stop telling people to pack up and go.* WHAT’S up Unam? we are paying a lot of money but you are not providing us with chairs and tables, sometimes we attend classes standing or sitting on the floor. This is very disturbing and stressful. Please do something about this problem.* MINISTRY of Education, please give us money for transport to go back and re-write our bridging course exams in Zimbabwe! You introduced that course but now you don’t want to listen to us. How many parents can afford N$1 000 for transport? Parents stand up and complain. – Mfana* WHAT is the starting and knocking off time for some Ongwediva College lecturers? I think some of these lecturers need to be reminded of their duties. Just go to the college after 14h00, you will not find them. Are they public servants or what are they? No wonder their students are always at Bush Bar. Ms Shinyemba, please do something. They are in Oshana right.* TEACHERS in 4-O regions knock off at four. Why not all teachers around the country? I am not against the policy, what I want is a fair treatment. PS please, clarify. – Natasha,Ohangwena* ONGWEDIVA College of Education’s admission committee, please treat people according to what they deserve. Why don’t you admit people who meet the requirements? The institution has been turned into a family business. Watch out for the anti corruption commission, we are tired of being rejected every year. – BellFood for thought * WHY is Omuthiya going to be upgraded as the administrative capital of Oshikoto Region?
