SMSes of the day : Monday

* TO all those who seemed to question the success of reconciliation in Namibia, Thursday evening saw thousands of Namibians of all ethnic and racial backgrounds enjoying fireworks at an industrial and agricultural show with each other. Peacefully, in a happy mood, enjoying freedom. That is a great achievement and (those) who made it real must be applauded! I doubt that there is any other country in Africa where this is possible. Let us keep it up! Let us not be misled! Namibia will grow further and we as a whole will achieve that.

* SO, we humans are cool doing fireworks. Has anybody spared a thought for the petrified dogs at the SPCA, the frightened animals locked up in Showground cages? Is it only human enjoyment that counts? Food for thought * I’M a disappointed citizen with the functionality of this country national intelligence and security services. In The Namibian of October 4, the Minister of Information is quoted as saying that she and the Government happen to learn from local newspaper about the SOC-SMG deal. Not so long ago this country witnessed marches on the NSHR submission to the ICC. Now countrymen, fellow compatriots and comrades, the NSHR submission to ICC was done early December 2006 and the Government and Swapo and in fact the entire country only happen to learn this when this was disclosed in The Namibian newspaper. Why do we have such forces in this country?* NDTC, for the sake of transparency please publicise the list of the directors and shareholders of the companies to receive the rough diamonds to cut and polish locally.* IF the B1 Butcher Ripper is caught, it will be in the country’s best interest to broadcast the trial live on NBC TV.Kaaronda must be evicted* EVILASTUS Kaaronda, you do not have, and never will have any credibility in this country, because you are known to break people down who are really making a positive difference in our country. You are a national disgrace. Please do the workers a favour and get out!* KAARONDA, leave the PM alone. Apologise and resign NOW or face the consequences!* DEAR President Pohamba, we the workers humbly appeal to you to discipline Evilastus Kaaronda for trying to destroy the good name of our respected leaders without substance. Please act Your Excellency.* THE Prime Minister should not threaten Kaaronda for speaking out in the interest of workers. It is his job to protect the workers. He (PM) sounds like Mugabe with his threats. Why is it that politicians can dish out criticism but they can’t take them? – Namene N* THANKS to Nahas Angula for being firm and standing brave in his response to the leader of the NUNW, Mr Kaaronda whose ambitions are to defame true leaders just to push his way up the high ranks in Swapo for his own interest and for those using him to dirty useful people. Yes he is a running dog and should know that running dogs become sick and useless even to their masters.* IT seems some people are using NUNW’s resources for cheap politicking. Point in case: when one hears press conferences held on issues not central to workers’ advancement. Some people in some quarters were used and chewed like gum and discarded when the taste vanished. Hey guys, power is sweet no wonder some of you were seen forcefully snatching the microphone from a colleague during the NUNW congress. Thank you Nahas for reprimanding some of these johnnies come lately!* PM leave Mr Kaaronda. Yes we are sick and tired of good patriots being insulted by our very own prominent figures. Did Swapo contribute to free the country so that they are the only ones with freedom of speech. We live in a democracy, which means freedom of speech for all Namibians not only you.* MR Kaaronda has gone too far in his attack on the PM. I think it’s high time he is called to order. He is greedy for power and thinks he is untouchable. Or is he barking for someone (else)? Mr Kaaronda is a Johnny come lately who is desperate for recognition.Politics in general* MINISTER Kaapanda should be ashamed of going on national TV to defend the million-dollar trip while people are starving. Can you imagine how many people that money could feed? A couple of people could have been enough to go on that trip. Secretaries and personal assistants getting N$80 000 to distribute leaflets, clothing allowances etc. that’s RIDICULOUS. What was the HR Director doing on that trip? President Pohamba please do something about arrogant and wasteful Ministers. – N Neumbo* I WAS surprised to listen to the comments of the Foreign Ministry on NBC radio news about the lack of foreign investment. Why the concern while you know the reasons? Do you think irresponsible statements by the likes of Hakaye’s attack on and ban of media houses, marginalisation of ethnic minorities, undemocratic tendencies in the ruling party, witch hunt, dictatorship, etc, will promote investment?* KARAS Region is in dire need of political leadership reshuffle at all levels in order to tap the wealth of the region and to overcome abject poverty and unemployment – BAB, Karas* HARDAP Regional Governor, why are you fighting around while we are waiting for development in Mariental Rural? Come and fight in the CDC office not in REHOBOTH!!!* WE no longer have Ministers interested in the development of the country. They don’t talk about the country’s development and spend a lot of time talking about who fought for the freedom and which party was involved. Why don’t they discuss the problems we experience, like how we should handle and stop the despicable things happening in our country.Guards for Iraq* HOW can you consider a private security guard working abroad a mercenary? A mercenary is someone who fights under a foreign flag. Security guards do not fight, they guard. How can you deny the opportunity for experienced war veterans to earn a good salary and bring money into our country to allow us to provide for our families as well. If this is a proper company, then I fail to see the issue! Let’s help our people earn money!* BEING South African and having worked in Iraq for over 30 months with Ugandans I can safely say that these are all static positions within the safety of well-defended US bases. SOC-SMG is a highly professional company with good intentions at heart and is offering an opportunity that comes once in a life time. – Tony* APS, we already have social problems in our region, now you want to bring terrorism here. Let westerners face their own demons. Please SADC leaders do not be fooled by US dollars and please expel APS from our region. – Angry Police Constable* AMERICA used Africans for slavery in the past, and now they want our men and sons in their war in Iraq. Stop this abuse. Please, President, we fought and won our own battles and America should leave our people.* PLEASE Meme Ndaitwah leave us to go to Iraq and Afghanistan. We soldiers are suffering, earning N$2 600 before deductions and are denied housing allowance. Let us go and guard.Murder and the B1 Butcher* IT’S high time that all born again Christians hold hands together and pray to GOD to arrest the murderer. Enough is enough. The blood of those women will continue to cry out until the murderer gives himself up to the Police. It’s now a matter of praying. Please stop talking and get down on your knees people. Ladies have self respect and stop selling yourself.* I SYMPATHISE with our people who are demanding he re-introduction of the death penalty. This could however be catastrophic as innocent people may become victims. This is evident from wrong sentencing of so many people by our courts – people spend some years in jail just to be found innocent later. Imagine they were dead? Please, let us look for a better alternative rather than taking an action we may later live to regret.* IF everyone knows about the B1 Butcher, why are women still roaming the streets? These women are just as much to blame for these incidents because they know the situation, causes and consequences but keep taking risks!* SOMEBODY spoke about changing the Constitution for only one day if and when the Butcher is found guilty. Let me remind my brothers that being found guilty as charge doesn’t necessarily mean that you committed the crime. You hang the Butcher today and after 15 or 20 years the real Butcher will come out and confess to all the crime with details. What will happen to the person who was sentenced to death? On the ball* IT looks soccer is now owned by the Acting Secretary General and the NFA Executive Committee members, resulting in regions not being able to decide for themselves. The most frustrating is that the Minister, John Mutorwa, is siding with them.* THE Brave Warriors will only do better at the 2008 Afcon if we all get involved. The NFA, NFC and NBC should get together and broadcast NPL and Brave Warriors matches.* THE old players must be excluded from the Brave Warriors squad for the 2008 AFCON, as they failed to make it for the past seven years? They must leave the young players to build the team for the future. Some of them used to refuse when called up to come play for the country. It’s even time for them to retire.* I THINK we need Robert Nauseb to guide the boys as he is the only one who is left from the 1998 team.Education* I’M a 2nd year civil engineering student doing practicals. I was surprised to find that the GRN loan is only going to cover N$4 000 of my tuition, while the actual cost is N$12 000. This is the rate they used some five years ago before the Poly changed the curriculum.* THE Government must pay [out] our loans at Unam. Some of us are 4th year students and the examinations are just around the corner and we will not be allowed to sit for the final exams.* WHY can’t colleges stop interviewing prospective students? They should follow the example of other tertiary institutions, because it’s really hard for learners to travel for the interview and some of them are from far remote areas. Admit learners according to their points through simple applications.* MR Shikongeni of Gabriel Taapopi SSS, I salute you for the job well done. Learners should know their aim of coming to school – STUDYING. Therefore anything done wrongly by them should be taken into consideration. But, Mr Shikongeni, I am urging you to give at least three chances to learners before you suspend them.* I’M a disappointed citizen with the functionality of this country national intelligence and security services.
