SMSes of Monday 8 March 2010

* MAKING a positive difference in Namibia has become so hard for individuals that it is disheartening to mention. We are becoming such a barbaric nation. Shame on us all for forgetting what real development is about. You name it! Crime, corruption, tribalism, poverty, unemployment, high failure rates, undisciplined kids, dirty and noisy residential areas. Chaos. I wonder where we are heading to, if we all cannot find it within ourselves to end end that selfishness.

Food for Thought* THOSE who still think that the symbols A B C D are for 80 70 60 50 per cent are living in the past. If learners are passing with 30 per cent at school how do you expect them to get 50 per cent at university? Raise the pass mark from Grade 1 to improve the standards.Man of the Cloth* I WISH we could have leaders like Dr (Abisai) Shejavali in this country?* DR Shejavali if you are really concerned about our beloved country as a man of God, why did you not mention Hifitikeko and the Nyamu notes which started most of the mess we find ourselves in today? Please in the name of God be honest sir!- Twapewa * REVEREND Shejavali please stop cursing our beloved country by saying that it is fast becoming Zimbabwe. As a pastor you don’t have to use negative words in your life. You are Christian who reads the Bible. Advise as an adult and acknowledge where our government has done well.* THANK God for a brave spiritual leader like Dr Shejavali. Long live Dr Shejavali, you have written facts. Government must act now. Our president it’s now time to act more, speak less. We are in crisis! Unemployment 51 per cent. Oh no! That’s very serious! I heard that it was 13 per cent when we took over. Let’s stand up. Now is the time to act for the sake of our precious loving nation. We cannot fold hand and go down like Zimbabwe. Unite Namibians and build our nation. Forget politics, unite now!Election Challenge* The High Court in handling the ECN case succeeded in painting its self-portrait as bureaucratic by putting the letter of a court regulation above the spirit of the Constitution.* WHY did the opposition parties sabotage their own valid case by failing to deliver their court documents in time? They have failed democracy as much as the ECN.* IT is a sad day for democracy in Namibia that a justified challenge of last November’s elections has stumbled on legal technicalities due to the incompetence of the applicants’ legal team. There are only losers in this case and celebrations by the gwinners h are misplaced. The ECN is not vindicated..* HOW much money did the nine opposition parties waste on the court case of which the outcome was a foregone conclusion!* OUR next election should be about the electronic voting or one party state.- BAB, Karas!* I’M not happy with the outcome of the High Court case. The Namibian people deserve fairness.- Oshili, Okongo* CAN people celebrate shamelessly for a stolen victory?* TO compare presidential and national elections with a game of soccer is the wisdom of someone who does not care for folk and country.* EDITORIAL March 5: So you believe the ‘Independent’ ECN failed – I think it did what was expected from it to do by its paymaster* AS a voter I wanted to know if my electoral laws were violated or not. Not if deadlines were met. After all why accept and listen to a late case application? Is to make money out of application fees?* CAN somebody explain what it means when they say eg the case was dismissed on technical… Please help!
* It means that the court struck the case from the roll based on court rules or legal points, rather than on the merits of the complaints that the nine opposition parties had about the way the elections were run.- NewsdeskBouquets and Brickbats* SOMEBODY intervened in the Rehoboth Town Council’s crazy administration. What a relief! Thanks that our voices are heard. At least!* FINALLY Air Namibia has a call centre. Thank you very much for the service provided. Keep it up!* PLEASE investigate how many flights Air Namibia has cancelled so far this year. This info is important to passengers as well as taxpayers.* I THANK USA, France, UK and Germany for using public funds (taxpayers’ money) to bail out private companies. I urge the Namibian Government to bail out Air Namibia and other parastatals in order to create employment especially for youth and women.- Dr Elijah Ngurare* WELL done to The Namibian for reprinting the archives. It was difficult to find the paper while I was in exile. – Hafeni* SHOCKING. How can The Namibian accept an advert promoting the sale of rhino horn?- JanEducation* PARENTS don’t blame teachers for your own failures. Did you give your kid any assistance before schooling? Do you check /help with homework ? Can your kid speak the language needed at school ? What else did you teach your kid in six years before school? First of all it’s your child and your responsibility to put all your effort into your child(s). If that’s to much for you, then just do not put children into this world!* CAN the Ministry act against the managements of schools who don’t do their jobs ( reading newspapers, phoning all day etc.). Report and act against the lazy teachers who discredit and make colleagues carry their loads. People will do what they are allowed to!* I CAME to school as usual just to find out the teachers where drunk on a blue Monday. No wonder our education is so poor. It was at (name supplied) college in Windhoek. Minister of Education do something* EVERY teacher must be given a house at school especially in rural areas. Provide every school with water and electricity before you talk about an 16 hour session.* PLEASE Mr Nangolo Mbumba think twice. Teachers can’t teach up to 16 hours.City Fathers Please…* CAN City of Windhoek revisist their website because has not been working since last year.Labour Issues* SECURITY is a very important service allowing for for a business or company to prosper. Without security the products would disappear every day. The guards protecting the products are paid low wages. It is unfair, please something should be done.
In and From the Regions* WHO is responsible for the upgrading of the Henties Bay soccer field? Is it the municipality or the community?* ROADS Authority: Please attend to the road from Kalkrand to Rehoboth. Starting to form potholes. Namibia has the best roads in Africa. Keep it like that. – Concerned Road User* NAMDEB, Scorpion and Rosh Pinah mines please invest in Keetmanshoop. At least establish your offices here. It will boost the economy of the town. We are starving here.* WHEN should Ministry of Environment and Tourism investigate irregularities and mismanagement of Anabib and Sesfontein conservancies which were reported?A Place to Call Home* NHE please rescue the middle income earners because the Government and the banks have given them the cold shoulder.Taxi Talk* THE taxi fare to Unam is N$15, no matter from where you travel.* WENT shopping for food with my girlfriend and for her family. When she got out of the taxi he just drove off with her shopping in the boot. Hijack shopping? How often does that happen? * THERE is no limit to taxi stories because 90 per cent of people use them and hate them. There are also funny stories. I once sat in a taxi with a big fat lady sitting on my lap. We both laughed a lot.NBC* SHAME on NBC you are broadcast the Afcon, which Namibia didn’t even qualify for, but you couldn’t show us the single match of the Brave Warriors on March 3 against Bafana. Now you demand we pay TV licences.Various Responses* SA Clearance on vehicles can only be obtain from SA Police* RESPONSE on SMS under text ‘Business as usual’ in The Namibian’s SMS columns. The buses and trucks you observed on our roads are not destined for Namibia but are in transit en route to Zambia.* LEFT hand driven vehicles: I am very disappointed to learn that there are Namibians who still do not know that left hand driven vehicles cannot be registered in Namibia These vehicles are mostly destined for Angolan markets, in transit to Oshikango for export.* TO the SMS which said Dr (Elijah) Ngurare was copying (Julius) Malema does it mean that since Malema is worth R140 million Ngurare is also worth 140 million Namibian dollars? Just wondering.
