* MR Paulinus Shilamba of NamPower is rightly concerned about the steep, steep increases in prices of power in the future. The Namibian consumers are rightly concerned about the lavish, lavish lifestyles of those managing our parastatals.
Food for Thought* SWAPO’s policy of jobs for comrades has failed dismally if the SOE performance is analysed. They truly deserve top flight football after so many failed attempts. This time we showed true character and determination. We made it even after a controversial 1st leg against Fedics. Now the hard work begins, Boys. Swakop is behind you.- Roberts Katangolo* PRAISE where it is due. The new bus attendant on the InterCape route to Upington thank you for your friendly helpful service. The bus was not in a good condition but you made the uncomfortable comfortable. Keep it up.* A WHITE Land Cruiser GRN 4558 with two flat tyres has been parked at Government Office Park parking for months. I wonder if anyone is responsible for it!Woza 2010* PLEASE brothers and sisters in South Africa it’s a once in a lifetime experience on our big continent, the Fifa World Cup. It’s only for a month. Please leave your grievances and problems till after. We want to look to soccer and not at strikes and killings. Behave yourselves.* NAMIBIA! How about wearing soccer shirts of our respective teams on Friday just to emphasise our support for the World Cup. – Nado* THE World Cup is starting on Friday and I do not have a soccer jersey. Where can I get one in Walvis Bay? And please not a Bafana Bafana one but any other African country, preferably Cote d’Ivoire.* WELL SA is ready for the World Cup! Has the Fifa President changed his name from Sepp to Joseph Blatter?- Nitta ha TshirongoNo. Blatter’s first name is Joseph but he is more generally know by the short form which is Sepp.- News DeskIn and From the Regions* IS Okahandja Municipality the only municipality without a standby team to fix broken waterpipes after hours. And is there no number for people to call when a pipe bursts. Once is understandable, but more than twice in a row pathetic and very unprofessional.* IT is high time for Oniipa to become a village council like other wellknown missionary places eg Oshikuku etc. We want this development to start as soon as possible and Oniipa Development Trust Fund to provide the managing leadership style.* CAN something not be done at the Walvis Bay Police Station in town. I had to stand for an hour waiting for my document to be certified while police officers were attending to their personal issues. Let something be done about this matter please.- Concerned resident.* OUTAPI Town Council please do something. We are tired of walking. The distance between locations is very far especially if you are at Olefa and and you want to go the business centre or from Oukwa to business centre or at Okalonda and Anamulenge to the town centre. It is 21 years since Independence but we in Otamanzi district in Ongandjera don’t have tap water. We are still drinking borehole water! Please help us!
* PLEASE I am not happy with the lawmakers of our country after 20 years. Why do we have laws if we can’t prevent alcohol, drugs and crime in Namibia? In Omaheke Region the youth are the ones who are drinking and killing each other. Why do we have the Police, Defence Force and Municipality? To work together to control the town. A young man was stabbed 15 times. I need to ask the Regional Commander to close down the clubs and shebeens at 22h00 like they did in the December holidays please. We also need a police station closer to the people. The one at Baikamp is not close to Epako.Politics* AS much as I agree with Gwen Lister’s editorial blaming Africa’s leaders for pretty much everything; I can only say Africa chooses and deserves the leaders it elects. That is the hard truth of it all. It’s because they can do what they like and because most don’t object, they get away with it. Not much you can do about it I’m afraid.* A PERFECT example by the Japanese prime minister. If you can’t deliver on your political promises, resign! A wake up call for this current Government.City Fathers Please..,* I HAVE personally witnessed more incidents of pickpocketing in Independence Avenue than police officers patrolling the city. Why is that?* WHAT’S happening in Windhoek North residential area. The guest houses known for prostitution and drugs are now renovating, but they got their ‘fitness’ certificates so I guess nothing can be done. And Justice for All* WHY are thieves faces always covered when arrested? While police officers’ identity is not protected? For example in Monday’s The Namibian newspaper the (alleged) Bokomo thieves’ faces were covered? The suspects’ identity is protected as they had not yet been formally charged in court.- News DeskBusiness as Usual* GREEN Team you are totally wrong by supporting the Government on the restriction of imported cars. Remember that not everyone can afford the expensive cars that South Africa is producing. And our Government is protecting their economy so that the poor people are being denied the right to drive. The poor who are earning a low income want to drive what we can afford. Patulukeni mudhiladhile aathigona yakalunga.Power to the People* THE City of Windhoek is buying electricity from Nampower at 39c per kw from next month; while currently selling pre-paid electricity at 95c per kw. Please (Nestor) Tobias do something.Gentlemen of the Ring* WHY should the earnings of Paulus Moses be a secret? Can Nestor (Tobias) inform us what his boxer was paid; also it is time for Nestor to choose whether he wants to be a trainer or promoter. I would suggest he brings in an experienced trainer for ‘The Hitman’ and concentrates on being a promoter.* ‘HITMAN’ did not lose to get a big money rematch. Agosta was the better fighter as he came well prepared. So let’s not make excuses otherwise Kobori was also not prepared when ‘Hitman’ was awarded the title.* PLEASE The Namibian stop creating bad stories about our own ‘Hitman’. What do you want from him? He just lost like others. What happened to Nuumbebe? Was he not knocked down twice? It can happen to anyone in boxing not only to ‘Hitman’. It was just not his evening. To be the ‘best’ you first have to beat the best! Please ‘Hitman’ I want you to prove them wrong go for it man. George.Education* DR Ibraham Iyambo, we the Namibian students studying at the University of the Western Cape would like to express our grave concern over the delays in payments of loans which the Ministry offers to students. These loans are normally approved in January but the actual payment is only made around May. And this year it is worse because until today payments have not yet been made. The university is closing this very week due to the Fifa Soccer World cup to be played. Moreover, how does the Ministry expect us to survive from January, when the university calendar starts till May? Because some of us came straight from Grade 12 without any financial means to sustain our basic needs. We hope this issue will receive your urgent attention.
* FOR heaven’s sake! My child’s school fees are paid up for 2010, but my child is being threatened by a teacher for a Easter Hamper (April) raffle he did not collect! We are in June now! They want to detect fake documents. And Justice for All* MR President (Hifikepunye Pohamba), please allow me to give my opinion on those people who are now in prison at Katima Mulilo who wanted to separate Namibia from Caprivi. They were wrong, we know that. Can President forgive those people and give them a second chance. Let them taste the cake of Independence. Make a change – they are our brothers.* MINISTRY of Home Affairs please be fast in your work. Surname changes and fabricating ID cards. You are too slow! How are we supposed to live without ID cards?* PLEASE MTC provide a network connection at Eheke because people from Ondimande village don’t have a network.ACC Alert* ACC please investigate how the Maltahohe Village Council gave a tender of more than N300 000 to a contractor without advertising? Is this not corruption?Health Matters* THE Katutura TB Male Ward does not have hot water. The shower that had hot water was given to the ladies. Now it has been a month that we have taken cold showers. The Ministry of Health should do something.- Concerned TB patient.* THE PS Mr KK please intervene! The Central Hospital nurses quarters are occupied by illegal tenants. Just imagine someone working for the Catholic Hospital occupying a room there or someone working in Caprivi but having a room there which he uses whenever he is in Windhoek.. One wonders whether these tenants are paying and if so to whom? The Hospital management said they failed to remove these people. PS please look into this matter!* LAST week I went to visit a nurse friend at their accommodation at Okankolo Clinic in Oshikoto. I smelled a very bad smell while in his room. When I asked what was wrong, he showed me their toilet. You can’t believe what is there. Dirty water leaking from the toilet pot is all over the whole floor. He said its been many days without the sewage being emptied. In addition, the whole clinic area smells badly of sewage. It’s a bad health hazard at Okankolo Clinic. They still use the old block while the new clinic is getting old without being used since its completion in January. MOHSS look at this urgently please!!Labour Issues* NATAU we at TransNamib are tired of having our money deducted for the union which is doing nothing to benefit us. Please Natau do your job at TransNamib. We need salary changes like you did to other transport companies!Service Please* THE FNB ATM in Eenhana is worst of all. It’s always out of order and this forces us to withdraw at other banks which pushes up our monthly charges.* FURNMART Ondangwa please deliver your customer’s goods on time. Imagine, I bought goods on May 23 and they are not yet delivered. If I call they will tell you their car is not coming to your town on that day. What poor service.* NATIS Otjiwarongo improve your services. I am just a concerned citizen worried about a learner’s licence. On a day like today (Monday) why is one teller assisting more than 30 people. No customer care. At 12h30General* STATISTICS on homes being gutted by fire in the informal settlements points to the use of candles. Maybe people should try paraffin lamps. Unlike the naked candle flame; the flame in a paraffin lamp is safely enclosed in glass. Even if one forgets to extinguish it before falling asleep; it will go off as the wick gets too short!- Joe Sasa.* FELLOW Namibians, I think most of the people do not understand the meaning of ‘freedom and Independence’. People are really misusing the word ‘freedom’. They support the the Government without realising that we are the ones who are destroying Government property. Please let’s think like grown up people.* HOW come one old man calling himself the godfather of theatre judges, man alone, all the scripts for short movies. Please organisers get a panel to judge.* THE Namibian Film Commission must have an obligation to ensure the utilisation of available expertise and equipment hire from the local film industry on foreign productions. What do you get from promoting foreign films if the local industry or the NFC itself is not benefitting? Local filmmakers cannot just work in any country because of stringent rules in those countries. Its a concern if foreign productions are even importing toilet cleaners from SA.Lost and Found* I, Monte Claasen, lost my wallet containing my ID, driver’s licence, bank cards and smart card. Please contact me on 081-128-3643 or 081-127-4742.* I AM Helena in Walvis Bay. I found the documents for Mr Edwin van Urk.
