SMSes for Wednesday 3 June 2009

*  SUPERINTENDENT Eiseb correctly identified that speed does not play too great a role in accidents, but he wrongly blames Windhoek’s roads for not coping with the traffic. Fact is that sheer driver arrogance and disrespect for traffic rules is the major cause.

* SUPERINTENDENT Eiseb correctly identified that speed does not play too great a role in accidents, but he wrongly blames Windhoek’s roads for not coping with the traffic. Fact is that sheer driver arrogance and disrespect for traffic rules is the major cause. Stop the madness on our roads and enforce basic traffic rules!* WHAT municipal elections? I don’t remember voting for my mayor or councillor – who appoints these councillors? We need direct elections where we can vote for our mayors and councillors. We are the ones who pay for our rates and taxes. No taxation without representation!* IF there is one thing that we as Namibians adore, it is none other than meetings. I have nothing against the principle of consultations, brainstorming and knowledge exchange. It’s just that we tend to have multiple meetings with no apparent action or results. – Nello TFood For Thought* PLIGHT of a waitress. I would like to tell the nation at large, especially the GRN, I’m trying my best to pay for a roof above my head and a decent meal on the table for my kid, but my profession as a waitress is a laughing stock for those who are better off. The question that I raise is, if all of us work at GRN offices what will happen to the tourism industry? Please try to show some respect. I also have problems but I hide them with a smile to serve you. At least I didn’t block bridges and camp at your offices.* HOW come the Founding Father gave the contracts to build the State House, Heroes’ Acre, Supreme Court to foreigners? Koreans and Chinese, not Africans, never mind Namibians. And what about Zambians, Zimbabweans, Tanzanians, Ethiopians, Egyptians and other ‘foreign’ countries’ contribution to the struggle? Never mind Sweden and all the Scandinavian countries?Politics* PLEASE people learn to read to understand. Like many comrades said before, let’s tackle the issues not the persons. Gwen Lister is not the subject of the issue but rather a link of realisation to the Founding Father’s actions and poor decisions.- Wilho* LEAVE Gwen Lister alone. She is my personal favourite and admired by most Namibians for what she does for this country on a daily basis. Waste your energy somewhere else.* JOMO you are a fool to tell Ms Gwen Lister to leave the first President alone. When will you learn what democracy means?* TO be honest, freedom of speech brought a lot e.g. information sharing and even nonsense. At least we must evaluate our SMSes before we send them to be read countrywide. On page 6 Monday June 1 on the SMS page, somebody attacked Meme Lister using heavy words. Kwaitos, please respect the elders!Bouquets And Brickbats* PLEASE allow me a chance to congratulate Telecom Namibia on the latest achievement in a successful bid to have the Switch network fully mobilised, even thought their marketing is still asleep, hence no marketing of the services! I will also like to know from Mr Oiva Angula Oiva whether there’s any restriction on the volume or content of SMSes sent from Switch cellphone network and if so, what is the maximum and how are we being charged?- Literite* I WOULD like to thank Supervisor Claudia at Shoprite Independence Avenue. I went to do shopping and forgot my most costly boots in the trolley. I called there to ask whether they found them and the friendly lady on the line took my details. And the next morning I found my boots. May God bless honest people like her!* COMPLIMENTS to the woman who asked the Police to take her baby because she cannot look after it herself and the father denying it. (New Era, June 1) That woman deserves honour and so many mothers should see her as an example before they kill or dump their newborns. As for the father? I hope he gets pregnant in prison. Please Namibian, interview that woman for educational purposes for others.* MR Kanalelo’s comment on One Africa TV on so-called old coaches is an insult to the intelligence of these coaches. Internet, DVD’s and videos are available to everybody in this country and elsewhere! Old coaches have won league titles and championships! Hiddink, Ferguson, Wenger are not young anyway.Overloaded?* I AGREE with Sup. Eiseb, Windhoek’s roads definitely can’t take the traffic load any more. General* A WARNING to fellow Namibians. Be careful responding to adverts in the classified section of newspapers advising of employment with (name supplied). It is a scam and the people will ask you to pay some money for you to get a job. Save your hard-earned money and do not be duped. * THE gravel road that turns off from Eveline Street to Goreangab Dam main gate is in a very bad condition! Can the Municipality please do something about it?In and From the Regions* KARASBURG Town Council do you have a vision in developing the town with reference to change to the image and look of the town. Prominent achievers at all levels are not coming back to serve the community in which they have been brought up. Wake up now. Make way for new minds and ideas on your Regional and Local Authority Council. – Concerned Resident* PLEASE Meme Gwen, do us the Hardap inhabitants a favour and also report on lighting and developmental matters in region. Let your journalist also dig and tighten sources on constructive and hopeful aspects to report on. We are getting tired of ‘words-war and division articles’ used for selling your newspaper in the South. Let there be hope and unity in your next article on the region.- Peace- and prosperity-loving citizen* PLEASE ACC go to Outjo. The streets are dirty. Rubbish is lying around for months without being picked up. Ministry of Works please we want Etoshapoort to be tarred please. ACC we want you at Outjo this year since there has been no development since Independence. Otjiwarongo Municipality help us, we are neighbours. Please Mr Ipinge. Maybe you can show or give ideas on how to develop our town. * PLEASE Usakos Municipality and our councillors when are we going to have a community meeting? It now two years without consultation with community members and no committee exists like in other towns where there are LADC committees. Please the CEO and Mayor should call meetings.Health Matters* ABOUT the programme on NBC this morning ‘Finding a Cure for HIV’ why not let us know more.* MINISTER of Health, what will you do about the people who still work on contract under your Ministry, those who work with TB patients?Education* WHAT is wrong with C //Oaseb High School at Gibeon, education is very poor. What is the problem? Is it learners or the teacher? Can the Ministry of Education do something about the above school. Gibeon is a small village without jobs. And more drop out very year. The situation is very bad. Please help.* MINISTRY of Education through the Ohangwena Regional Council, please act seriously and very urgently to provide water to Oshikunde SS in Ohakafiya circuit. Oshikunde SS is the only school that has Grade 1 to 12 in the region, yet the school does not have water nor hostel facilities. Learners are suffering, including teachers who hike 47 km to buy water at Eenhana town. The situation is unbearable and the school might be closed if the situation is not rescued urgently.* I THINK it is a habit for the Ministry of Education to send back money allocated to them? Because our college has lacked development for so many years.- OCE student* WE have a very serious problem at OCE. This has been a problem experienced at this institution for a long time. Students suffer by having to wake up at 03h00 just to be dropped at nearby schools around simply because there is no transport. We want to know whether it is really the Ministry of Transport that is denying us buses or is it just a lack of administration accountability. To agree with me go to Iipumbu, Oshakati SSS by 04h00 and you will find students shivering.Service Please* STANDARD Bank Credit Card queries: why must I repeat my e-mail address every time I want a statement. Why can’t your system store it on my profile? When will I be able to access my credit card account online? It costs a lot to call you from my cellphone to request a statement. Payments reflecting weeks later, etc. The Namibian, please follow this up, it is really a pain. Thank you.* CAN the Bank Windhoek customer, who complains about the cellphone banking service being out of order, tell bank the area where he or she is? Maybe there is network caching. Because since Bank Windhoek introduced that system, I never experienced any problem. – Wykfield, OngwedivaSporting* FOR how many years will Namibia shoot itself in the foot by allowing adults in our youth soccer teams? For example the Civics wonder winger, just ask his parents for his age. – Concerned Namibian- According to the player card at the Namibia Premier League (NPL) and the Namibia Football Association (NFA), Eslin Kamuhanga was born on May 6 1992. His passport also shows the same date. That is the official information we have. – Sports Desk
