Your vote is secret*IT is true that the person who issued the ballot paper wrote your voter’s registration card number on the counterfoil of the ballot paper. The counterfoil has a serial number. The ballot paper does not contain a serial number. Thus your vote is a secret.
SMS Of The Day
Your vote is secret*IT is true that the person who issued the ballot paper wrote your voter’s registration card number on the counterfoil of the ballot paper. The counterfoil has a serial number. The ballot paper does not contain a serial number. Thus your vote is a secret.Food for Thought*SLOW vehicles can hold up the traffic for long periods of time, with ever longer lines of vehicles forced to trail after them for kms on end. Even the most responsible and patient driver will lose patience after a while. And since we do have so many irresponsible and reckless drivers in Namibia, slow vehicles do form a hazard on the national roads. One suggestion: Bring back the ban on slow lorries and other heavy vehicles from the national roads on Friday afternoons and Sunday afternoons, when the traffic volume on these roads is at its peak. Another suggestion: Place traffic officers at rises and bends in the road instead of alongside the straight stretches, so that they can catch the really dangerous drivers – those who overtake when it is dangerous to do so or perform other reckless manoeuvres.Bouquets and Brickbats*PLEASE don’t forget to tip your newspaper vendor this Christmas season for the great service he provides throughout the year.*WE the youth from the Hardap Region would like to congratulate Beatrice Kotungondo for being elected as a board member of the National Youth Council. We believe and know that you have the potential and capacity to serve for the best. Keep up the good work and may the Almighty God give you and all the elected members wisdom and courage to lead the youth to greater heights.- Southern Youth*MR Alfredo Tjiurimo Hengari is a great political analyst. His articles are clear, relevant and very well written. As a French citizen who has never been to Namibia, thanks to his work, I have a clear vision of the Namibian political situation. Thank you Mr Hengari for your excellent work and contribution to the enlightenment of the African political landscape.- Corinne Traque, a faithful reader*YOUR Readers’ Letters: K P Shitumbapo, I Kloppers and Anti – Corruption we applaud you. Great reading!*CONGRATULATIONS Harry Simon and welcome back true son of the Land of the Brave. Lift the national flag high. You deserve hero status.*CONGRATULATIONS to Harry Simon on his victory. He once again proved that he is a good fighter. *AMBUNDA thanks very much for making us Namibians proud. Keep it up my brother.*CRY my beloved country as the Land of the Brave is sliding towards one party dictatorship. The ban on (an) independent newspaper, the ban on call-in programmes like ‘Open Line’, the appointment of governors by the President, the on-going looting of public money, the weak Anti-Corruption Commission, the labelling of certain ethnic groups as imperialists and secessionists are all symptoms of an autocratic state.- HarrisOld Soldiers*IS it a joke? Only 25 accepted war veterans in Rehoboth? Please we want to see the list. Don’t let this issue be handled by only one person. I am sick and tired of being kicked sideways when there is honey available. There is an aged lady still using a bucket toilet. Imagine the house we used as a hide-out. Come on Comrades Marco, Jerry, John Nanguthu speak up.*THE registration of war veterans at Outapi, Omusati Region was a mess. Criteria set for those who weren’t in exile were ill-conceived and humiliating. To make it worse the person who explained those criteria was unable to answer us satisfactorily due to a language barrier. Ministry of War Veterans consider coming back once more prepared for registration as some of us got frustrated and left. We deserve it.- Ndahepele-ngu.Election Fever*CONGRATULATIONS Mr (Peter) Katjavivi on your appointment! A small request to you from Okahandja: We want our own houses and maybe a few clothing shops please. I know you can do it.*FOR Local Authority Councils which elected Deputy Chairpersons of Management Committees, the Local Authorities Act does not make provision for such.- Percy Weskop (Usakos) – LLB student (Unisa)*THE message from the nation is: we have lost confidence in empty political promises of the past 20 years. That is why 62 per cent stayed away from voting. Does that not raise your eyebrows? That is equal to living in a state of denial. You can fool some people some of the time but not all the people at all times!- A non-voterEducation*THE University of Namibia should re-look into the years of internship for the Bachelor of Medicine. Nowadays there is only one year of internship, making the duration of study six years. Please be on par with the other SADC universities.*SAVE the Osire children now please Minister Abraham Iyambo.Law and Order*I WAS caught speeding and was supposed to be arrested on the spot until I negotiated a N$500 deal. Money of mine was stolen from the safe (where Police put it for safekeeping) while I was locked up at the Windhoek cells.Note: Normally you should be given a receipt for your personal items? Did you not get one? It will be difficult to prove anything without it. – News Desk*POLICE officers at Karibib are misusing government vehicles to socialise when they are off duty.- Dadja Kuxungila*I WOULD like to add my concern regarding the recent stock theft affecting the farmers. I have to admit that I once bought game meat from the Single Quarters and that clearly illustrates that there are loopholes to acquire meat at such places.*EVERYONE selling meat (dry or raw) nowadays especially in the street must have a permit. I was very distraught by the pictures on December 1.*WHY this violence against women? Everyday we have to read about violent acts of murder and rape perpertrated against women? Government must set up special courts with dedicated judges dealing with rape and the murder of women. Also a reporting unit where women feel free to report incidences and these should be manned by special investigators and forensic medical detectives. Stiffer sentences for those cowards.- Disappointed In and From the Regions*THESE were not the first messages about shebeens at Etosha Gate. Please Goverment do something. This is not allowed.- Erick Van Owen*WE at Ongonga village in Ohangwena deserve a road network and electricity like the others. Why not after 20 years?n WHY is Erongo Red ‘s electricity so expensive ? I’m staying at Henties Bay. How can you buy electricity for N$60 but only get 39 units? And why does it have to be different units every week? I think Walvis Bay did the right thing.- NahendaLabour Issues*GOVERNMENT it’s about time you considered reducing the probation period. Twelve months is too long and unnecessary. Three or six months probation is the best.*FOR how long should I wait? I was called by the Ministry of Gender and Child Welfare in September. In October they called us for an interview. Since then they have never contacted me. Please help.- Unemployed child of a war veteran.NBC*WHY does the NBC’s ‘The Week That Was’ hardly ever bring in Republikein, Namibian Sun, Caprivi Vision and Economist newspapers’ representatives?Sporting*I AGREE with the Monday SMS about the media not promoting local football derbies. The media of today must take the blame for killing our football too. I really miss the days when great sports writers like Corry Ihuhua and Confidence Musariri used to drag us to the stadiums with their unique style of reporting football. Where are they? And the Winner Is!*I GOT a Windhoek Lager cap with N$50 on it. I went to claim my money at a certain depot in Katutura where all I was told is that I would only get two beers for N$11 each plus N$28 change. I went on to the next shebeen to claim but it was same story. What if I have exceeded my drinking level for the day and want to use my N$50 for something other than drinking?Service Please*I APPLIED well in advance for the renewal of my driver’s licence at NATis Keetmanshoop on August 9. They promised it within six weeks. I am still waiting after four months! Please*I VISITED Tsumeb last weekend and was shocked to see that not a single phone booth is operating. Please Telecom, some of us don’t use cellphones. *ONE Africa TV and TBN in Windhoek fail and the screen freezes up. The company running the uplink to the transmitters better shape up or ship out! If this were not enough, it takes One Africa TV five days to notice their news ticker is out of date. And this e-TV rubbish ? Let’s just say I will pay my NBC licence after all!*FNB should increase ATMs in Oshikango. Customers are many and they have to stand in long queues.
