SMS Of The Day
*FINALLY an arrest of an illegal forester has been made. However this is just the tip of the ice berg when it comes to illegal logging in Namibia. The Directorate of Forestry must shape up and leave no stone unturned. Root out corrupt officials from the top down and we might see some real results in the forestry sector.

Food for Thought*I FAIL to understand why people misunderstand tribalism. The wishful thinking that tribes must or will disappear is a daydream, if not a joke. Tribes are God’s creation and are here to stay. What you must emphasise is maybe peaceful co-existence and mutual respect of different tribes. Learn from history and reality.Bouquets and Brickbats*HANK you Prof Peter Nyarango for wanting to introduce trainee nurses! Each hospital should take unemployed Grade 10s & 12s in each region. You would reduce unemployment and raise people’s morality.*I FIND the comments made by Mr Musinga Bandora on the issue of income disparities to be timely and on par. Government must do more to increase the skills of our people. Stop building monuments to the past. We have enough! Take that money and give bursaries and build more homes, schools and hospitals!*COMMENTS made in the Weekender on photos of people are not amusing. Your aspiring career or part-time comedy is not for you. Find interesting things to write. I know you can do it! – MichaelLaw and Order*IT’S very alarming how many lawyers are called to book nowadays. Is our judicial system still to be trusted and has corruption in Namibia taken over completely?*WE are illegal shebeen owners who are being forced to close our shebeens by the government. But there are also people who have other illegal businesses such as car workshops, car washes, barber shops, salons and so on. If other illegal businesses can operate then the government must leave us to sell liquor.*DO warnings not exist at Namibian traffic departments? Especially at Oranjemund, the traffic officer just gave a ticket for a fine straight away even if it was a first offence. What about a written warning if it is a first offence. Some feedback please.- A car ownerRunning the Show*PRIME Minister Nahas Angula how do you feel when you attend an event for the electrification of shacks. Don’t you think they should have had homes by now?Politics in General*WHAT a shame for Africa. Gaddafi was killed like a dog but the Assad regime killed more than 15 000 civilians in a year and Nato and the world take no action? What is this all about? Is the West’s ongoing strategy still continuing to invade Africa? The Assad regime to me is worse than most of the African leaders they call dictators.*AFRICAN leaders must be responsible and accountable for situations in different countries, whether good or bad, rather than attributing it to colonialism or imperialism. Besides, who is in charge in Africa now? Many of our countries have been independent now for more 30 years. Therefore it is important to develop and implement policies and strategies aimed at uplifting our population and developing our countries within certain timelines.Business as Usual*Is the Communications Regulatory Authority of Namibia (Cran) essentially saying no to the Telecom-leo merger just because they can? Did they try thinking of the alternative to the merger?*TOBIE (Aupindi) came and went, millions were wasted at lost at Namibia Wildlife Resorts! Now it’s time to make a change and hire someone who isn’t just there for a hefty pay cheque! There are many Namibians qualified for this job and we feel these positions should all be re-advertised so others, not politically involved, can apply and start doing what is needed! For example making sure that the average Namibian can start affording the prices at our parks and reserves!Education*SOME schools in Erongo are still using corporal punishment. Please Dr Iyambo where can we report these teachers?*MINISTRY of Education some of us are afraid we might be owing our institutions without knowing whether we were granted loans. The reason is that never got our letters telling us we are being rewarded or not. Please we need to know where we stand. *PRINCIPAL of Augustineum please do something about the toilets at the school. They are so dirty.*HOW long must we wait to get our study materials at Polytechnic Walvis Centre? We need enough time to prepare our assignments.Health Matters*THE X-ray department of Windhoek Central Hospital is in a grave mess! Who is in charge? Minister Kamwi do something!*MINISTRY of HEALTH how long are the nurses at Okoloti Hedimbi clinic going to be without gas bottles? They have been struggling with paraffin stoves and firewood since February.- Concerned citizen*MINISTRY of Health please do something about Tamarisikia clinic. Why is is that this clinic always has a shortage of nurses? You can come very early but they start with treatment at 10h00.Labour Issues*WHY are nurses in Omusati region not allowed to claim overtime during National Immunisation Days like in other regions? Nurses spend sleepless nights to ensure the success of this national exercise, but after all that they are being told to take days off. *WE guards working for (name supplied) security have been to the Labour Office and to the Namibian Transport and Allied Workers Union to raise our unhappiness but nothing has changed. We are not paid according to the days that we worked and there are many other unfair practices in our company. The owner buys expensive cars while we guards are suffering.*IT is amusing and disappointing to observe how union general secretaries regard the unions as their own property where they do as they please and remain untouchable. It is equally disturbing to notice that those in leadership positions, especially central executive committee members, fear their general secretaries. They do this to the extent that they sell out workers, who elected them to protect their interest, but end up serving their own interests. Unions are formed by workers, financially maintained by their members and are there to serve the interests of workers only.ACC Alert*WITH due respect I ask Mr Paulus Noa to investigate the case of Ukwangali where prominent politicians, including our Head of State, are said to have acquired land.In and From the Regions*WE are hungry! We want some courses here in Tsumeb. Courses like needlework, hospitality and catering, improving Grade 10 and 12 marks and others.*MUNICIPALITY of Walvis Bay when will the new taxi rank be completed? This is unacceptable because if we, as customers, were to be 10 cents short to buy anything, it isn’t given to us!Responses to recent SMSes*TO the SMS on Monday about the church making noise. Please Ongwediva Town Council allocate plots to churches for them to build their soundproof buildings and the problem will be solved. Don’t look at the problem without offering solutions. We are elected too.
