* HE is the first African-American president, and his promises to change not only America, but also the world, have made him our founding father of the world, a world hero before even superseding George Bush in the White House.

Food for Thought
* SINCE last year many others and I have been begging your SMS service asking the Minister of Education and National Examinations Authority to make public all registered private colleges, tourism, nursing schools and universities etc. This is to help us not waste our money and time on fake certificates, degrees, diplomas etc. Please help us.
– Worried student

Media
* I WAS so touched by the story on NBC Open File about four siblings who are helpless. Can the MoHSS please assist these people. Please minister help they are our brothers and sisters.

* CAN someone out there please come to the Kamholo people’s rescue! Politicians help. Those were the very same people who voted you into power. Thank you Open File for being brave and open minded. Mr (President Hifikepunye) Pohamba please help.

* THE GRN cannot claim to be caring if the Kamholo family continue to suffer as was shown on Sunday (NBC, Open file). Shame on all of us for condoning this type of governance, while other Namibians’ rights are violated.
– Mukuve, Rundu.

* THE story carried on NBC TV’s Open File is heart-breaking. It needs government assistance because the affected people cannot help themselves in one way or another. It is painful to see our people suffering like that.

* LET me applaud the Open File crew for bringing issues within the community to the public’s attention. The story that touched me most was the Kamholo siblings. Can the NSHR and Government’s social welfare stakeholders and all the good Samaritans out there please step in to the silent plea of those siblings!

* NAMIBIAN nation please let’s have some heart for the Kamholo family from Ombalantu. Let’s remember that giving to the needy will be rewarded by God.

* IT is really sad to learn that the situation of the Kamholo family in Omusati Region has worsened. Who is responsible for these people’s well-being? I hope the Ministry of Health will act soon as well as the councillor of that constituency and the governor of the said region. It is a shame to us as a nation when Government neglects its own people in this way. Since 2004 nobody paid them a visit, it’s embarrassing.

* THE Kamholo family on Open File. About the stories you broadcast on Open File, NBC TV. If you could ask Samaritans to help it would be better! What’s the use to put them on TV?

Politics
* NAMIBIA’S Parliament must legalise polygamy so that men can marry a minimum of four wives to reduce AIDS and adultery.
– Kamati

* THIS ‘just obey elders’ mentality, no matter what is what, is causing Swapo to be a bully. We need moral standards like respect for others’ property (less taxes) so we can survive. How can our parents be so illogical blaming Swapo when they themselves harbour this mentality and don’t even teach morals and respect.

* THE adviser who told President Pohamba to make that stupid lucrative salary increase has hidden agendas. President Pohamba please wake up and smell the coffee? Can’t you see it’s election strategy?

* DEAR Swapo comrades. Let’s be patient and let them talk, till the elections! We are there for political debate. Aluta continua.

Bouquets and Brickbats
* I WISH the staff of The Namibian a happy new year! My concern is about Namcol, Namwater, RCC, Natis, MVA-cum-traffic officers at roadblocks who are supported by the taxpayers, yet their service is poor and the behaviour of some officials leaves much to be desired. After the 2009 election the new Parliament, National Assembly, Cabinet must revisit the existence of all the parasitic state-owned enterprises.
– OM

* MTC we are happy with your service. I would like you to provide services like weather, airline and financial indicators etc on our mobiles.

General
* I AM confused by the human race – we have an over-populated earth, but nature’s efforts to curb this are fought with ever increasing cures. Nobody wants to die young and I have understanding for the people who are fighting for a world where nobody will die of AIDS, malaria etc anymore, but then we must find ways to educate people. The irony is that the ones who care least are now saved from the claws of nature to carry on producing.

* IT is high time that the Government starts driving to pensioners’ houses. Do check-ups on all pensioners in Namibia, so that they can be treated for diseases on time.

* THE Namibian please take note that Deputy Ministers are not members of Cabinet, it is therefore wrong to say (Deputy Environment Minister Leon) Jooste resigns from Cabinet as reported on 16 January 2009.

* TAXING our savings? We pay the Government our hard-earned cash just so that ministers can get 24 per cent increases! Forget it! My money is safer under my bed.

* I’M not happy with Windhoek street kids. These kids are forever begging for money but at the same time their main intention is to rob. They grab people’s bags and run away. These kids are very dangerous and they don’t have respect at all! Please City of Windhoek remove them from town they are irritating!

Health Matters
* KHOMASDAL Clinic please pull up your service, it’s totally going down. You are supposed to open up at 08h00 in the morning. You open your doors past eight. We have to wait for nurses to treat us the clinic is first to be cleaned and mopped. That means we start getting treatment at 9h00. The matron in charge or (Health Minister Richard) Kamwi, please take action.

* DISPENSING medicines is not an absolute preserve of the pharmacists. Nurses are dispensing medicines in the government clinics, and most hospital pharmacies are manned by pharmacist assistants or just general hands. Do you think doctors, with training in pharmacology, cannot dispense medicine they prescribe? It is like telling a mother that she cannot dish a pot she cooked! Isn’t that ridiculous? Pharmacists, through the Pharmacist Initiated Therapy, are also consulting. Isn’t that not doing someone’s job? Others even have facilities for checking BP etc. That’s not their business!
– Private Medical Practitioner

In and From the Regions
* THE mayor of Eenhana, please be committed to meetings and requests. You were supposed to meet with the Minister of Gender on the 15th of this month. What example are you showing to the public at large?

* IT is worthwhile for President Pohamba to make a similar visit to the Rundu/Nkurenkuru road construction as he did in Ohangwena Region. To find out whether a quality job is being done on that road. Because the project is an important one. As this road is an extension of the Trans-Caprivi Highway and will be used as a regional transport highway. Congratulations, Mr President, on a job well done.

* WHEN are we going to have a free and fair election for the Hai//om chief in Outjo? The current chief was not elected.

* PLEASE I request the Erongo Police to put a roadblock between Arandis and Usakos.

* THOSE who are claiming that development is going to the North, please tell us exactly what you mean. And when listing please exclude properties obtained by northerners out of their own efforts, hard work and sacrifice. In fact, we from the North invest back in our native regions. Governors and councillors have been empowered to initiate development projects and that is what they are doing in the North. Recently, business people at Ondangwa invited their colleagues from other parts of the North to come and invest at Ondangwa. Are others in the South, to be specific, doing the same? But it seems it is a sin when northerners are fighting to develop themselves. It is not a sin for those who obtained bank loans in the North. These are o
pen to all in Namibia.

Labour Issues
* I CAN see that the APS board in Walvis Bay has been removed and Afcor displayed. What is the difference, is it still not labour hire?

* AFTER 14 years in the Police, I’m still a constable. I have a clean track record, but I am still where I was some years ago. Why? Juniors with less service years are promoted! I’m very negative and annoyed! I was very proud to be trained and now? For over five years I received the same salary, because I am on the top notch of the constable’s wage. What would u have done, Inspector General sir, if it was you?

* CAN someone tell me the duties of so-called workers’ unions in Namibia because I don’t see anything that they have done for workers.

* MUN can’t blame mining companies for retrenchments and force them to contribute to a retrenchment fund. Where is all the money invested by MUN. That money could long ago be used to insure workers on retrenchment. Hengari wake up and be proactive in all aspects. All that the members hear is, the investments take very long to yield, longer than the ostrich eggs to hatch. Herbert Jauch do research on MUN investments please!

Education
* PLEASE Ministry of Education can we have a primary school in Rocky Crest? Start building now for next year.

* CAN our Ministry of Education tell us why the BETD holders have to spend four years to obtain a degree at Unam. We are not from Grade 12, why?

* PARENTS let’s unite and ask the Minister of Education to give a chance to those students who failed Grade 10 last year.

* MINISTRY of Education, division of non-formal education, stop criticising people that can’t speak English well. It’s the knowledge and a job well done that counts, not the way that you speak. It’s a pity if you can speak English but yet you do not know how to do your work, especially those in Oshana.

* WHEN learners fail (Grade 10) the education planners complain that teachers are not teaching. I know that this year learners did well. There is no space for them in Grade 11. They are just walking around looking for admission.

* THE law faculty’s management should be reformed because of irregularities such as paper leakages.
– TP Angula, Unam

* INSPECTORS of the Ministry of Education in Khomas are failing education. When they start with registrations of Grade 1, 8 and 11 the rest of their tasks are just forgotten. When registration is over, there are shortages of teachers and learners have to sit for months without teachers. Haven’t they heard about working overtime?
– AA

* ONGWEDIVA College of Education needs renovation. Student teachers can’t stay seven to eight in one room. These aren’t learners at secondary school and the food isn’t up to standard. Is it because it is the North as they say? Please help, urgent!

Service Please
* THIS one goes to Standard Bank: How come you don’t bother to warn your Stannic clients who are about to pay off their accounts that the last premium will be deducted on anniversary day? You don’t even bother to send a letter of congratulations to your loyal customers!
