SMS Of The Day
GRANDPARENTS have no place to go. They need a place to rest because they have been suffering a lot. See and help the needy and the poor. We’re all human and Namibian and we need to live a peaceful life in an independent country.

Food for Thought
I HOPE the head teachers, directors and Nantu (teachers), being community leaders as it were, took note of the opinion of Ms Toni Hancox, the director of the Legal Assistance Centre regarding the ‘School Development Fund’ in The Namibian of October 5. They must help these children.
– Mekupi, Oshakati.

Bouquets and Brickbats
AT last! Somebody heard my cry. A circular apparently has been sent to schools Re: girls’ short uniforms. Let’s do the same with the ‘civvy’ clothing as well. Because girls are allowed by their beloved moms to leave the house semi-naked!

OFFICE of the Prime Minister. Thank you for the regrading of clerks and other positions. You did a great job for us!

THANKS to the City Police for keeping the prostitutes off the streets of Windhoek although some people want it legalised. Seems the guys struggle nowadays. Good luck City Police.

GREAT Gross Barmen gets a face lift. But what actually happened to Daan Viljoen Park? Will it ever reopen?

VIVA World Teachers Day! To the organising committee, Director of Education and Nantu leadership for Ohangwena Region, Inspector of Education for Epembe circuit, dedicated teachers; you deserve a round of applause.
October 5 2010 was a day of true humanity and symbol of recovery which begins with teachers. ‘When you teach you touch lives for ever’. The rise begins from the ground, so you’re the foundation of every success.

THE 25th anniversary magazine stories of The Namibian inspired me to come up with the 435 (UN Resolution) Idea for 435 unemployed youth born on March 21 aged 21 and above. Those who turn 21 as from 21st March 2011should call me or send SMS requests for more information to 081-637-1276.
– STM.

CAN someone please explain to me why The Namibian persists with Ndeshi and Jakes? A newspaper like yourself should really not be giving this strip any coverage. Rather don’t print anything. Budding Namibian cartoonists there is an opportunity to make a career here.

SHOW bosses come off your high horses and get out of cloud cuckoo land. I have visited the show for at least 30 years and this one was the most pathetic ever! And the food, overpriced and useless. N$5 for a bread roll (brotchen)? No lamb grill. No bratwurst stand. To Mr Schmidt: There is a German proverb ‘Eigenlob stinkt’! Next year I will rather give my N$35 to some beggar or car guard!

The Oldest Profession in the World
I DO not understand the big issue everyone is having about legalising prostitution. The ladies will be out on the street anyway, legal or not. This way authorities can at least have a bit of control over the matter. After a while arrangements can be made to get the women off the streets, making it safer for both the ladies and the rest of the population. I think it’s a positive thing and fully support it.
– Tine

LEGALISE prostitution. It’s already happening and we need to stop living in denial. Thanks Minister Kazenambo for facing reality!

NGOs and other organisations please explain to us how or if at present any of the Windhoek street girls don’t carry sexually transmitted diseases? You are fooling yourself. What are you doing for the street girls? Have you ever supported them in anyway? By legalising prostitution you can have control over diseases. You should shop around in Europe and get a wake up call. Minister Kazenambo I take my hat off to you.
– Anti conservative

WE already call them commercial sex workers which means they work and earn an income. They could come together as an National Union of Sex Workers (NUSW) and approach NUNW for affiliation. Foreigners would apply for work permits. Then organised services would be provided to prevent STDs, trafficking, exploitation, violence and other forms of abuse.

PROSTITUTION in Namibia should not be legalised because it is a disgrace to the moral values that the parental home is teaching to their children to respect their human dignity. Let us be more creative and come up with other forms of reducing unemployment.
– Helena.

WHAT is Minister Kazenambo trying to prove to the nation? That Namibian women deserve nothing but prostititution? We are women with values. Don’t mislead us! We have brains. Just give us better offers and do not legalise prostitution!

WOMEN will forever be against prostitution. More men than not would support it, albeit not openly. Women have won gender equality issues, DStv pornography issues, because they tend to basically manipulate men.

The Numbers Game
MINISTER Hage Geingob look at the plight of Jan Markus, the carwasher’s plight. Go to the streets, to the courts and you will understand the statistics of unemployment. I finished Grade 12 but have been unemployed for some years.

LEAVE Jan Markus alone so he can work for his family. Notorious lawbreakers steal public funds, but they’re left alone. Ignorance or stupidity in Namibia?

Please help
PLEASE inform us when The Namibian’s 25th anniversary DVD will be available at your Keetmanshoop office.
Note: Sets of the 25th anniversary DVDs have also been sent there.

Health Matters
TO the Ministries of Health and Education as well as the Hardap Regional Council: the mosquito problem at Gibeon has reached extreme levels. Please act now as learners can’t even study.

And Justice for All
TO the Legal Assistance Centre I need legal advice. Can I sue my husband’s mistress for alienation of affection/criminal conversation in Namibia?

NBC
NBC your news headlines received via SMS are not updated. I received the same at 08h00 and 14h05 on October 5.

NBC what happened to our TV coverage in Otjiwarongo? We haven’t viewed TV for a month now.

Labour Issues
NAPWU against NUNW. Not all public servants are members of Napwu and not all members of Napwu are happy with the way Napwu leadership deals with the GIPF issues. Most of the public servants fully support the resolution of NUNW.

AS a committed paid-up member of Napwu for 15 years I am extremely disappointed with the decision to go against the NUNW. I hope they have a valid explanation for their actions which they will make public or else I see no other alternative to finding myself an alternative workplace union representative. My fellow Namibians it is time for us to make our leaders accountable and I am starting now.

IT is saddening to hear that Napwu is going against the NUNW congress resolution. It clearly shows that (Peter) Nevonga and his sidekicks do not have the interests of workers at heart. It is true that other unions do not contribute to GIPF but that does not mean they won’t say anything when things go wrong.

NAPWU leadership whom are you protecting and why? An investigation was conducted already (Namfisa). Now is time to take action.

Sporting
NAMIBIAN Premier League, please treat referees with respect. Pay match fees on time as you promise in the agreement.

THE NFA and Ali Akan must resolve their long standing differences because locally he has a proven record. Unless you want another Tom (Saintfiet) who wants to use us as a stepping stone. Let Ali Akan be assisted by Bobby Samaria with Spark Gotlieb as a goalkeeper coach and team manager Sandro de Gouveia. We need a new technical set up with people with proven records. As experienced adminstrators for once listen to the soccer masses; we are also part of football.

PLEASE NFA president John Muinjo the NFA must renovate the Oshakati Independence Stadium because now we are playing in bare or sandy stadiums. And the YDF must do something for the under 17 youth league here in the North.
– Chimbelazo, Ongwediva

WHAT Mr Barry Rukoro is saying about the national team that we must wait for another three to four years to see results is very bad. The older players that are not up to standard and not up to the game, they must be replaced.

RE the ‘very concerned businessman’ importing goods from RSA who’s truck was delayed at the border due to lack of paper. In line with Trade Facilitation measures being implemented, unnecessary delays are not condoned. Thus all complaints are treated seriously for a better service delivery. Please contact Hans Garoeb.

PEOPLE who stutter can contact the Namibian Speech-Language Hearing Association at nam.slha

IN Namibia you can erect as many simple pissoires as suggested for public urinating but guess what? Unless our people get educated in protection of public property, all will be vandalised.

CAN the schools educate learners about the road traffic rules because cars now have to squeeze between learners and oncoming traffic. Can the schools also educate learners to keep their environment clean i.e the school terrain and streets.
