SMSes Of The Day
*I FOLLOWED NamWater’s frequent threats and acts to cut off the total supply of towns and villages. I assume this is despite the presence of regularly paying residents who may have elderly and kids in their homes. Since this is a dispute between town and village councils and NamWater, I consider NamWater’s acts a gross violation of the basic fundamental rights of people, especially those who are faithfully paying for their water.
Should everyone take the law into their own hands, as NamWater is doing? And why should an entity like NamWater continue to be the supplier of a resource of which we are the sole owners? NamWater has no respect for this county’s people, their government or the law. There are other means to retrieve outstanding debts.
*WHAT NamWater and the City of Windhoek have done is despicable. In both cases there are schoolchildren whose studies will suffer.Food for Thought*HUMANS are the only living beings that think we can only discipline through pain. What is wrong with us!*ARE we in Namibia not entitled to the basic constitutional rights like housing and water? Where are the promises that were made during elections?Bouquets and Brickbats*THE Legal Assistance Centre would like to congratulate Gawie Kanjemba on his achievements in the international arena (The Namibian, Youthpaper June,19. In addition, however, we would like to commend Namibia for not having the death penalty. To clarify, the Namibian Constitution in Article 6, part of the entrenched Bill of Rights, prohibits executions.*I SALUTE the Education Deputy Minister David Namwandi’s bold decision to initiate a probe at his ministry. At the same time I call on him and the Anti-Corruption Commission to do the same at Unam in an effort to put all the issues surrounding Unam to rest. This will help restore credibility and public confidence in the institution’s governance structure and enhance its educational quality.*IF the people of Rehoboth don’t pay their water bills – all of us, the water users, will pay for them because they will add the losses from Rehoboth (and elsewhere) to the price for all. If the ministry bails them out, we will pay in our capacity as taxpayers. The only way out is to save water! Stop using wet sanitation and do a radical regional reform to make sure that money flows to and stays in the regions so that people are effectively able to pay what they are due to pay.Running the Show*WHY does the government want all the shebeens to have licences while the government fails to provide electricity and water to shacks in Katutura and all over. Nation wake up and see what is going on.*WHY did Minister Erkki Nghimtina only fire the board of Air Namibia? What about the board of TransNamib? *MINISTER Jerry Ekandjo, when are the salaries of the chief executive officers of local authorities going to be raised. Everyone in the civil service got a salary increment, except CEOs. Why?*IT will contribute to poverty reduction if the finance ministry could stop deducting tax from our pension upon retirement, because one can create new jobs with the pension payout and become a taxpayer again.A Place to Call Home*ARE the ‘illegal homes’ an eyesore to the city? I think a tourist visiting can hardly notice them, even the residents.*I THINK it is high time for us to learn how the by-laws of our country work. We all came from the villages and settlements and our traditional way of acquiring a piece of land in the rural areas is exactly the same as for an urban area which is through the village/town council. Doing it any other way will result in you being evicted. So government and the City of Windhoek should just service affordable land for the poor to settle.
From the House*PARLIAMENTARIANS and Namibian Police there are not shebeen owners sitting on the pavements or knocking on the doors of government offices looking for a job! Nor do they force people to buy liquor at their small businesses. Customers buy liquor with their own will. Leave people to run their small shebeens to feed their children, pay their school fees etc. At the same time they give jobs to lots of Namibians who work for them. Just give them licences and regulate hours of trade. That’s why people vote for you!*DEMOCRATIC or autocratic? How our government makes poor people poorer and rich people richer? You gave big food retailers like Shoprite, Woermann Brock, Pick n Pay etc liquor licences while at the same time want to close shebeens for small business people. Is this what you call equal distribution of wealth in this country?Politics*CAN somebody in government please instruct the Swapo Party Youth League to stop interfering in matters that don’t concern them! They need to make use of their massive funds allocated to motivate/discipline/train/organise and teach our youth how to contribute positively to national development! And approach all employers for work/experience/apprenticeships etc.Business as Usual*I AM so glad that Air Namibia decided to replace the two ageing Airbus 340s with state of the art A330-300 aircraft. About two months ago I looked at the capability of the A330 for the route between Hosea Kutako and Frankfurt. Yes Air Namibia do what you do best and forget about the backyard experts who don’t understand or know what the airline industry’s about.Education*MWESHIPANDEKA High School has collapsed. We don’t have peace. Everything is falling apart. We are matriculating and we don’t have teachers. Teachers are leaving the school. We are really tired! Ministry of Education we humbly request you to visit Mweshipandeka unexpectedly and interview leaners.*WE the learners at Thomas Tuutaleni JSS, Okalongo circuit in Omusati region, are suffering. Ministry please come and visit us.*I AM a Polytechnic of Namibia student and my name did not appear on the list of those who got loans. I got good points and they told us to just use our acknowledgement letters when we go to sign our contracts. School is about to start. Ministry of Education please do something.Old Soldiers*AT my age of 67, I do not have energy to run a project. The Government should look into this matter and give elderly ones the N$200 000 for veterans. Let them give us our money before it disappears or is paid to ghosts as is happening now at the Education Ministry.Labour Issues*AN employer who fails to pay the salary of an employee should be criminally charged. It is shocking to learn that some security companies do not pay the salaries of their employees on time. How can you expect one to keep on working for months without getting paid? And the employers have the audacity to run away from being photographed? This is a crime. In and From the Regions*WHERE are the days when we used to enjoy our week to 10-day to visit the Hardap Dam? The bungalows were so clean and comfortable with carports, the restaurant overhanging part of the dam, the game park, the dam itself with all facilities available. At the Hardap Scheme smallholdings one could get fresh produce and with a drive into Mariental, there was always something to do. Now it looks like a battlefield and forgotten wilderness. It took quite a time to build it and now it is down in the dumps and forgotten. Rebuild it.*I KNOW of a family who has been collecting water at one of the Rehoboth High School taps for five years now because they do not want to pay for water.Law and Order*I AM employed in a shebeen and now when the City Police close it, how am I going to survive? Think of us. We will remain unemployed and you will increase crime and unemployment.ACC Alert*MINISTER of Education please let the Anti-Corruption Commission also investigate school feeding catering tenders. As the nation we want to know who benefits from those catering tenders. What is the involvement of your staff? Start from 2006 onwards.*ANTI-Corruption Commission and auditors please investigate the following at the Ministry of Education. Conflicts of interest, Namibia Students Financial Assistance Fund system shareholders, car fleet tenders, consulting companies and hiring services. Start from the top. The companies scam is just the tip of the iceberg. There is much more, just protect the whistleblowers please.Sporting*HARRY Simon I wish you all the best. Do what you do in the ring. I am behind you, watching you as usual. Good luck.- B Haushona

If you are telling the truth then is there anybody who would be able to breathe in the ward? Why you did not call one of the nurses and show her before going to the media? We nurses are there to treat people equally whatever qualification you have.*WHAT was said about Onandjokwe hospital is so true and there is much more. Minister Kamwi stop standing at the gate waiting for latecomers, get in the wards and see for yourself with your surprise visits. Namibians are suffering.
