SMS Of The Day
*NO library in Mondesa, Swakopmund. Where will we get books to read? The one in town is too far. This is a trend in all townships in Namibia!
Food for Thought*HEADLINE news? Beasts wreak havoc in North, what about vehicles?*IT is not the beasts that wreak havoc, it is humans who encroach into their territories. They have nowhere to go! *PLEASE refrain from the expression ‘behave like animals’ when people do stupid or cruel things. Animals never misbehave – only people do. – Waltraut.Bouquets and Brickbats*WELL done U/20 national soccer team and its management. Keep it up.- Bertus Bock*TO the three men at the new MTC mobile home in Wernhil opposite the new ATMs: Thank you for coming to my rescue when that man came to the ATM I was using making me feel unsafe and really scared. Your prompt response was appreciated. I can’t help but wonder why there was no security person stationed there. You made me feel safe enough to re-insert my card and withdraw money. Thank you. *I WENT to the Expo on Friday at the showgrounds. Please fix the parking area. It’s a mess with mud, large stones and loose gravel. Not everyone drives a SUV. Make the experience enjoyable. Thank you.Do we really?*THE news media act similar to vultures, just waiting to see who misses a step so that they can sensationalise the event. Constantly the media creates situations just by asking stupid questions or fabricating concerns which are not true! When will the three major media outlets take the high road rather than the tabloid mentality! Give us news, not who sleeps with whom, who drops their pants, who kept secrets of illegitimate children! So what?Business as Usual*THE World Bank is only saying what the private sector said all along. Government does not agree with the recommendations because it is short sighted and frankly very bad at business management. If there were no laws forcing the Government to exist and if it operated in the free market, it would be forced to close down due to total inefficiency in all areas.Wal-Mart*I STRUGGLE to see how Lady May garnered so much attention for her use of words and yet the public seems reluctant to criticise Trade and Industry Minister Geingob for his unjustified and unfair comparison of the Wal-Mart judgement to the apartheid legacy. *IF Mr Geingob believes that laws and rules he proposes will be detrimental to the business sector; then what is the use of them. A Trade and Industry Minister willing to hinder economic development, believing that he secures employment that way, must have missed out on basic economics.*THE Wal-Mart issue. Maybe not enough politicos paid off?GIPF Saga*I STRONGLY believe that the delay in the GIPF probe is caused by the fact that most of the individuals implicated in the saga are ruling party top influential members who feel they are above the law of this country and untouchable. Running the Show*MINISTER of Youth, Sport and Culture please we are still waiting for our prize money from the December 2010 cultural festival. Please we never experienced this kind of situation with the directorate when it was under Mr Dias. We have been waiting for six months and the regional cultural officers say they don’t what is going on because they already forwarded all the details to the head office.*MINISTRY of Veterans Affairs when are we getting feedback on our project proposals? Some of us are getting older and weaker just waiting and neither have we received the N$50 000. How will we manage the long-awaited projects if some of us are disabled as a result of war and over 58 years old? The process is too slow and disappointing. Dr Iyambo please, we endured for too long, 21 years is way too long.*PLEASE Minister of Safety and Security you give tenders to people who don’t want to work. How can a standing building be renovated for two years? Better yet give the tenderers a period in which they must complete building.
General*THE Government is mismanaged, is too big and has made promises it cannot keep. I write this SMS out of concern and a sense that more people need to know how to take care of themselves financially and not become dependent upon the Government or a company for life support. City Fathers Please…*WINDHOEK Municipality please get your act together. The river parallel to the top of Bach Street is filling up with raw sewage with corresponding stench, rats and health risks. This was reported at least four months ago. Do you need a petition and fatalities first? *CITY of Windhoek please put robots at the junction of Otjomuise road and Sam Nujoma road/Daan Viljoen road. How many more accidents at peak times? I and many others don’t want to become statistics.- Manu Education*MINISTER of Education please bear with the ECS JSS in Berseba. They do not have a school building. They are lodging and are operating from a classroom. Their Regional Office seemed not bothered at all.*DR Namwandi come and talk to human resources here at the Northern Education offices. Posts are taking a year to be filled.Health Matters*ARE the doctors not supposed to knock off at 17h00 like nurses? At OPD Engela hospital they leave at 15h00. Patients have to go home and come back the next day without being seen by the doctor.*NURSING Council please move out of your office and see how the nurses are working beyond their scope of practice in the rural areas.Law and Order*DRIVING at the speed limit on the Western Bypass and almost every car and taxi hooted at me to go faster! Not one cop on this dangerous road.*PLEASE the magistrate for Tsumeb must start his duty on time because the court starts at 08h00 but he start 10h30. Please make a change.*WHEN will Government repeal the very unconstitutional Prevention of Organised Crime Act? I urge all citizens to read this terrible legislation! Why are you so uninterested while Rome is burning? That law contains a penalty of N$1 Billion or 100 years imprisonment for the crime of ‘deemed knowledge’. It is simply mad. Are the lawmakers serious? I think they just don’t read these things before they decide. Or does ‘the party’ decide for them? Labour Issues*ROAD Fund Administration come and visit Katwitwi Border Post. No uniforms, no computer. Take care of your officers.
Service Please*SWAKOPMUND Nampost your service is too slow. People are being helped at only one counter while at the other counter they are sitting drinking coffee.*IT does not mean when it’s free we don’t want quality. Please One Africa bring back our favourite soapies and Satanta Sport. Sporting*BARRY Rukoro and his uncle are a tragic failure of leadership where football development is concerned. And they have the nerve to go around and held indabas to extend a man’s contract who is running Namibian football without any strategic plan on his table.Responses to recent SMSesFrom the NBC*WHY does NBC not have parental guide? We use the parental guide and sensitive viewers are also always informed at the start of any movie. *WANT to know from NBC TV what’s the message we get as viewers on the movie they broadcast at 19H00 every Monday to Friday? I think you better broadcast that kind of thing after 21h00 because I don’t think it’s a good thing for young viewers.
Otherwise please remove it.We appreciate your comments on what we do, as we can only do better if our esteemed viewers can also help us improve. The telenovela that you are referring to, is suitable for family viewing and carries such an international rating. *MTC and NBC can you give us a breakdown on how many people voted the Namas?Total sms votes were 49,677 (of which 7532 were spoiled votes, 2721 double votes and 4811 incorrect codes)Total of website votes were 11,417Total of both sms and website votes equalled 61,094 (which equates to 2036 votes per day) Director GeneralAlbertus Aochamub *I TOTALLY agree with the SMS about the returnees being privileged. It does not mean that since some of us did not fight for freedom outside the country, it make us less Namibian. Some of us fought without being selfish. Please Government, be realistic and let us all enjoy the freedom like anybody else. *I SUPPORT the SMS/views on the useless winter time change. One has nothing productive or fun to do after work as its already dark by then.*Regarding the bad and unruly behaviour of young people in our society, please forget about phrases such as ‘before its too late’ (SMS of the Day,June 14 ). It is already way too late. We have been relaxing while the situation was rescuable, just like we are with the issue of short school skirts.- Martin
