SMS Of The Day
*LET us call a spade a spade. I have no problem with salary increases for politicians, but publicly demand these public figures declare their interests according to the law of the country. It’s also time to limit office to two consecutive terms to curb corruption. Their overstaying is become unbearable.
– Nghoshi

Food for Thought*PLEASE gentlemen, Rome is burning: you, Amupanda, Becker and Hengari are part of that small elite that could help us to keep in check this meal-ticketing leadership. Stop the bickering and continue to advise on how to survive…Bouquets and BrickbatsWell done NTN*NATIONAL Theatre of Namibia (NTN) thank you for local band stand. It is a great programme. Keep up the excellent work.*NAMIBIAN page Paparazzi rocks!!
*I AM very impressed with the fast and efficient service I received from the Ministry of Lands. Within a week I received my land tax clearance and my waiver application was approved and ready. Minister !Naruseb your people are doing a great job, keep it up! *I AM a product of Bantu education, hold an undergraduate degree from Unam, (while living in ‘Tura’) and understand and look forward to reading Hengari’s ‘Post Scriptum’ every week. If you do not like him or do not understand him, do not read his work. And I like the fact that he is proud of his life journey and therefore ‘A man full of himself’ to quote Jochen Becker. And I too am ‘Ovambo’ like Phil ya Nangolo.*MR Hengari, please explain the meaning of ‘ad-hominem’. Good journalism is using understandable language in particular as you say your aim is to address the majority. *ALFREDO T Hengari this shows that not even education can help this guy’s writing. Stop telling us how great you are. You are not that important to this nation unless you do humanitarian things. The poor Jochen Becker was helping. I am black and don’t like your writing. Jochen talked about the way you write your English, not what you write about. Please write for people who don’t even have a university education. Learn from writers like Ernest Hemingway and Linda Goodman. You are not perfect and you don’t know everything. Not everyone is power hungry like you, some people were born to make history eg Nujoma and Zuma.*BRAVO to Shipululo Amupanda. He, like Hengari, spotted the patronising deceit of Jochen Becker.*THAT exactly seems to be the conundrum; sorry I meant problem: will the comatose Namibian society ever respond to inputs of the intellectually sharp and scholarly prolific kind? The Dieschos and Melbers have tried, I don’t think they succeeded. What will happen?*CENTAURUS was built and paid to school the English-speaking sector by the late Sam Cohen and handed over to the Ministry of Education. The decline of the buildings and grounds through lack of maintenance is a shocker. We parents had to foot the bill to develop the sports grounds long before Independence. These days scholars vandalise not only school buildings, but street name boards, walls and parked cars. How can squatters be permitted to take over premises!! Strange times we live in! All in the Name*MR Vaatz please tell us who Gloudina is and what she did for the country.*’I PERSONALLY have never heard in my life…he has never done anything for me…'(The Namibian, June 23 2011, p. 3). Mr Vaatz, what happened to your respect/dignity?- John Adams.*JUDGE Parker stated that Mr Vaatz had acted ‘in a frivolous and vexatious manner’ when he objected to the plan of renaming the street in which Minister of Justice Mrs Ithana is residing after her late husband. I want to call now on all Namibian citizens to challenge our politicians, who are not serving us people, but only think of themselves in a frivolous and vexatious manner, so that they can at least feel that we are angry about their performance and behaviour!*I PROPOSE we rename all the streets in Windhoek to Independence Ave, that way we will all live in the same street! Pathetic bunch, while people are dying for other reasons, babies are raped and dumped, crime is rife, I don’t have to tell you – concentrate on the important stuff. Stop being a nation of sissy whingers … and racists! *TO me it looks like that the change of street names is of more importance than the millions which can’t be traced? What a pity. RIP*IT’S very sad and heartbreaking to hear about such a great hero who fought for this country to have been treated that way. If it’s now us the pioneers, will we even be recognised if such heroes are not recognised. Comrade tate Nankudhu may your soul rest in eternal peace. What you did for this country, we appreciate it.*Tate Nankudhu; I salute you. – Hamba Kashle. Running the Show*WHAT are the Ministries of Agriculture, Water and Forestry and Environment and Tourism doing about the uncontrolled harvesting of sand, by sand retailers and brickmakers, from the Okavango River?Who is at fault?*MINISTRY of Works. The reason why Government building projects are in such a mess could directly be attributed to the (in)competence of the architect. These ‘professionals’ are paid hundreds of thousands of dollars to ensure meaningful, functional buildings, but, when things go wrong, only the builder is at fault. I say, hold them accountable! Retain the bulk of their fees until the project is successfully handed over to the client!*MINISTER Ngatjizeko and his team must investigate Indians and Chinese running companies without appointing accounting officers as these companies should be obliged to pay compulsory pension, medical aid and housing allowances, since they export all diamonds without Namibians benefiting at all. Rather than wasting time on petty issues of domestic workers. Asia should be taken on head on before it’s too late. Politics*I WAS thinking about succession in our country’s political leadership. If we fast forward our country 10 or 20 years, do we really have young people nurtured by our leaders to lead our country ? If the youth leagues and mother bodies of parties are like oil and water then our future is bleak.- Mr !Aochamub, Windhoek*IN an article in a weekend newspaper of June 24, where the PM tries to defend their intention to increase their salaries, Mr Prime Minister, there is no indication that political office holders deserve the salaries they earn let alone an increment. Things like a poor education system, lack of electricity and sanitation in most parts of Namibia, poor tax collection, unemployment at more than 50%, expensive tertiary education, corruption which run into millions, poor road conditions, tens of thousands of street kids and many others are clear indications that our politicians are doing nothing. They deserve a salary cut instead of an increment. Namibia is a big country with massive resources and a small population, nobody except the idiots, the lazy ones deserve to suffer in Namibia if you were doing your work properly.Business as Usual*AS we appreciate investors in Namibia, we want a fair deal. In my personal opinion Chinese businesses are flooding Namibia’s market with poor products robbing our people of their hard- earned money because Government is relaxing standard quality control measures. Some donations are obsolete equipment making Namibia a dumping ground for big brothers. Law and Order*ARIAMSVLEI border officials please stop drinking on duty. It’s a bad image. Police start setting an example. Please it can’t continue like that*MOST of the Police officers have no official accommodation. There are no rooms available for renting and no houses to buy in Katima Mulilo town. Ministry do something or NHE come again please.*THE Ministry of Safety and Security must do something please! Why do some Namibian Police drink too much, especially in Otjiwarongo. Their duty is to maintain law and order, but they are the ones who want to fight in the bars. Shame on them! Education*SHOULD teachers be paid according to the pass rate or because it’s their work? (Debate).*I HAVE never heard a politician encouraging parents, who can afford it, to pay for the School Development Fund. They know no school gets a fax or duplicating machine, car or petrol money for sport, debating and other competitions from the Government. SDF is the lifeline to many schools. It buys and maintains essential machines and admin computers, sends teachers to workshops or principals to circuit meetings, fetches supplies from regional offices, transports learners here and there etc. Thanks to politicians, no one pays these days, even the rich, and there’s nothing schools can do. Why not abolish it totally and Government give schools money to operate with for free education in totality.n MR Abraham Iyambo please inspect schools in Ruacana circuit especially Omudhuwahauwanga Primary School. Some teachers at that school are not serious about education at all. Sometimes they come at 10h00, some have been drunk and sometimes they do not come to school. This situation cannot continue like this because it is not good for our children’s future. Please Mr Abraham do something! *CAPE Education was the best and it still the best, there is no argument about it. Most well qualified people running various institutions, governors, best CEOs, managers, accountants, engineers, technicians, doctors and people of various professions etc are all the products of the Cape Education system. They all went through the universities in South Africa or other universities in other countries after studying the Cape Education in namibia. Many Namibian students are still in South Africa studying the Cape Education system. Let’s not mix politics with education please.Dr Abraham Iyambo*DR A Iyambo should be congratulated for his efforts to fix a broken educational system. Sadly this is long overdue, something his predecessors ignored. We look forward to inspiring leadership. Truly a breath of fresh air. God bless you.*THE Otjozondjupa Regional Education Office, we the teachers are still waiting for our PAYE certificates please.*DR Iyambo please can you visit Chief Hosea Kutako Primary School hostel. 362 boarders have to share 192 beds. There are no cleaning materials. It is a health hazard.- Concerned parent In and From the Regions*I WANT to talk about the buses that are transporting people, in particular, from Windhoek to Katima. The bus owners have already increased their prices as from June 1, 2011. *WE really need One Africa television in Arandis.- Albinus MutimiliSporting*SOCCER mix up. How intelligent are the administrators? Under 17 means under 17. Not under 21. Claim back your school fees.Service PleaseOn the phone*MR Tim Ekandjo at MTC is educating the nation that cellphones may cause cancer if you spend too much time on the phone, not knowing that we spend hours and hours on the phone waiting for the MTC call centre to put us through to an agent for our queries. Please Mr Ekandjo clean your house inside before you start sweeping outside.*MINISTRY of Home Affairs, I applied for my full birth certificate three months ago in Windhoek. They stated that I should come back after 21 days, but it has not been there up to now. The time for applying for education loans is approaching and a full birth certificate is a big requirement. Therefore, Home Affairs should speed up their process or do something to inform the Ministry of Education if the delay is in their hands.*BANK Windhoek your customer service at Katutura branch enquiries is simply not up to standard. Long queues are the order of the day.Lost and Found*I HOVEKA Kapenangumui I have lost my birth certificate. Please call or SMS me anytime on 081-488-6282.Responses to recent SMSes*STREET names in the city were allocated according to a theme. Musicians, flowers, tourist attractions, famous scientists, ladies’ names, gemstones, metals (ie Copper Street) etc. Why do some want all streets named after so-called heroes? *THE general perception has been made that Government officials provide poor service. Partly true and there is the remarkable exception of individuals who try their best and are vilified for ulterior reasons. However, I personally on several occasions experienced poor service from private sector institutions! I have a list!
