SMS Of The Day
*GOVERNMENT of Namibia, root out the corrupt people in Government institutions. We fought for this country for the benefit of all Namibian people, regardless of the colour, race, status and so on. What happens in the NDF, police recruitment to mention a few and now the census is the same. How can you employ eight people from your family or some with 19 points if requirements are for those unemployed with 24 points? Namibians be fair!.
– Tired Namibian
Food for Thought*TAX, tax and more tax. When will the Minister of Finance realise we can strengthen the fiscus by taking care of what we have? The N$3.5 million stolen from Katutura Magistrate’s Court easily equals the yearly tax paid by 800 households yet no serious efforts are made to recoup the money.Bouquets and Brickbats*10/10 for Gwen’s ‘Political Perspective’ on Friday 22 July. Minister Iyambo’s shenanigans were indeed farcical. He is making a mockery of education in search of fame! The fame monster is a scary thing and you can easily lose your way. *THANK you Comrade Ngurare for your well presented comments on kick backs. You are a true leader. The voice of the voiceless. The Swapo Manifesto doesn’t condone mismanagement and corruption. We call upon His Excellency President Pohamba to take note that the people have spoken.*I AM very grateful for the prisoners who are busy cleaning at hospitals, schools and hostels, as well as rebuilding and de-bushing across the country. Well done guys you are our forgotten heroes. Gentlemen of the ring*ANDRE, Ruwan and Jacques congratulations from your fellow countryman. You will make Namibia proud. Go on take the big step and join your fellows in the boxing arena!*TODAY no condoms, tomorrow no ARVs. I can smell the extinction of this nation. – Papuky*WHAT! An 18-month-old drowned in a tombo drum. Our children are drowning in alcohol and drugs in Namibia. On drugs the police are quite active, but on the alcohol side everybody is drinking like hell.- Concerned citizen Running the Show*IT seems the Ministry of Home Affairs is totally deaf about what the people are crying about – poor service and hostile staff. During their retreat in Swakop, Minister Nghidinwa and PS Nantago never even mentioned the cries of the people about their poor service. It seems this is an accepted and approved policy at this ministry. What a pity.EducationDr Abraham Iyambo*I AM happy with what Dr Iyambo is doing. I mean his surprise visits to schools. But I think that he is jumping the line of management. Instead he must push his directors, then directors must push their inspectors, then inspectors must push their principals to push their teachers. So Dr don’t come to schools by yourself while they are just sleeping. Shake the whole line.*THESE days teachers are not appreciated. We are are blamed even when there are no textbooks in schools. You switch your TV on anytime, it’s just teachers being blamed, teachers being surprise-visited. We are so demotivated now.- Omusati teacher*I SUPPORT surprise visits and condemn frequent absenteeism and late-coming. But interrogating teachers in front of a TV camera is mean, cruel and unprofessional – do it in private. So if I am a victim of domestic violence and therefore absent often, should I say that on TV for the whole country to hear? Do I need to be shamed or helped? *DR Iyambo, continue with visits but do it with caution. The aim should be to build not destroy -it’s easy to say if you don’t want to do it, quit. Nurses were told the same some years back and many went to private places or the UK, now there is a shortage which may never be overcome. You may fill the vacancy in a month but the experience and expertise of good teachers who quit will take 5-10 years to come or may never come back. Rather help good teachers to overcome their social problems since trying to replace their expertise is many times not realised. Ask the schools.*DR Iyambo. A ‘Dr’ in what? Can Unam not give him a certificate in human science? Reprimanding a person in public is not the way to go. *HEY Namibians, what is wrong with you? Now you have a minister who is serious about his job, doing unexpected inspections and you complain about his dress code! He needs our outspoken support because he is concerned about the quality of education of our kids. We need to protect him and the few like him against all odds, eg trade unions that are justifying the wrongdoings of their members. Viva Iyambo !*CONGRATULATIONS to Minister Iyambo for being so different to our other rather dull politicians and for your commitment to getting our education system right.*WHY should teachers be labelled while workers at the Ministry of Education are not performing at all. They are lazy and incompetent. Salaries and medical aid benefits are taking ‘forever’ to be processed. The Minister should fix the ladder there before jumping down on teachers. How can teachers perform while hungry?
*I AM disappointed by the current Minister of Education. He is no longer a role model to me as a teacher by exposing teachers to the learners who are already so undisciplined.*DR Iyambo, the Minister of Education, is right in his actions. His subordinates namely school principals, inspectors and directors should be ashamed of not doing their work as they should. *THE job of the union is to represent the workers. Aluta to Mr Kavihuha for a good article. It shows that he has a heart for a teacher. I hope the Minister of Education will learn something from a social activist and trade unionist like Mr Kavihuha and Mr Steven.Very important people*DEAR Mr Kavihuha of the Teachers Union, are you trying to tell the Namibian nation that it’s OK for the teachers to earn a free salary and to let our kids bear the brunt? Please resign! You are an embarrassment to the Teachers Union if not all unions.*VIVA Dr Iyambo! Your visit under cover at Centaurus School is wholeheartedly welcomed. It’s just a lesson to all other teachers in the country to be punctual and more effective in their job. Gone are those day of latecomers and laziness. TUN must stop to criticising the Minister and rather rehabilitate, by all means, your members to be punctual at all times. *I THANK the Education Minister for the surprise visit to schools of those lazy teachers like the Centaurus High and others. TUN does not carry the education of our children in their hearts. Be quiet. Continue to visit Minister. We need quality education.*TUN is really serving its purpose. I salute you Mr Mahongora Kavihuha and your office. Continue the fight! Together we can do better. Viva TUN!*TUN, why are you so unprofessional? Why do you want to defend teachers who are out of order at Centaurus? Is that how you get support? Let Dr Iyambo do his work, expose bad teachers or even get them removed.- Professional teacher OhangwenaNo more potholes please*WHO is in charge of servicing the Unam premises? I hope by the time we come back from recess, all potholes are repaired and sealed.- Worried student. *LAST week my SMS on teacher safety at a particular school was ignored. This morning (Friday July 22) a teacher at the mentioned school was brutally attacked. Waiting for a teacher to get killed?Note: We cannot find a record of that message. Kindly resend and we will give it immediate attention.- News DeskGIPF Saga*DEAR Mr Hango how blind and stupid do you think we are? Do you really think that by giving GIPF members housing loans in future (maybe!) we will change our mind and not continue asking for the missing millions? We GIPF members are not small children whom you can silence with a lollipop! We are adults struggling to make ends meet – a situation which to you is definitely unknown! In and From the Regions*ARIAMSVLEI Clinic. The nurse here serves about 3 000 people from Ariamsvlei and surrounding farms without any relief. When she has to go to Karasburg, must she close the clinic? There is not even a ambulance and the poor people must wait for an ambulance from Karasburg which does not arrive on time. Please help this nurse to also get time to relax and give attention to her family. Thank you.*ERONGO Red please we also need electricity in the Otjimbingwe /Aru-ais residential area.
Health Matters*NURSING is a profession and please it must have its own union and not a general union like Napwu! Allow nurses to be happy at workWho do we tell?*THE smoke that hangs over northwest Windhoek from the chimneys at the hospital, Hartliefs and the power station is surely very unhealthy and an environmental hazard. What is Government doing about the pollution? Whose responsibility is it? I would like to know so that I can take it up with them.*I AM very concerned about the Nkurenkuru Health Centre. The TB side is very dirty and unhygienic. Please Mr Kamwi come and visit and see for yourself. It does not look like a hospital at all. Sporting*I’M so disappointed in the NFA especially Barry Rukoro regarding the failed signing of Sydney Urikhob by either Supersport United or Platinum Stars in South Africa. Why did you deny the youngster such a opportunity of a lifetime? What will Sydney benefit from that camp in Ghana as opposed to playing in South Africa? He was going to earn N$20 000 per month excluding bonuses.Labour Issues*PLEASE can the Chairperson of the Public Service Commission tell us how long one has to wait to hear whether they were successful or not after being recommended for a post. Some of us have been waiting since January*MR FESTUS Lameck, Trans-Namib Board Chairman, you are beating the drum that the employees are important. How important can they be if you cannot meet our elected union leaders? We want to work*PLEASE Minister of Fisheries do something. We are not working because quotas are not enough. We are really struggling now.Service Please*WHAT is wrong with Home Affairs staff? If you submit documents without copies, they send you to a nearby shop to make copies there. Don’t they have copy machines or paper? But if you go to SSC to submit claims or any other documents without copies, SSC staff don’t send you away. Home Affairs staff must go for customer care training. *FNB branches in the North do not show customer care. Customers stand in long queues because at most branches there are only 2 or 3 tellers serving a lot of people and they are very slow. FNB branches in Windhoek, Swakopmund and Walvis Bay are organised and deploy more employees.*MTC when are you going to open a mobile home in Eenhana? Eenhana is a big town but every time we have to access your service in Oshikango or Ondangwa. *MTC Namibia we are struggling here at Otsinka village in Outapi Constituency. People are still using that old fashioned way of climbing on trees to get a signal. Please we want a network transmission tower at Otsinka village.*CAN Nampost explain to me how my envelope got lost between Ariamsvlei and Windhoek which I sent on July 7? Where did it get lost?
