Not even City Police or the Fire Brigade were able to get hold of the Municipality’s Electricity Department. Shame on you City of Windhoek!*WHAT’S with the City of Windhoek? Every second day there is no water in Funky Town. *WHEN will the City Police recruit again?*WHY does the City of Windhoek take five months to approve building plans?Law and Order*RECENTLY the media reported on potential irregularities pertaining to the court proceedings, transcription services and related tender. However, no conclusive follow-up was done by the media; yet the tender has been awarded without advertisement. One would have hoped that the media and the public at large would be relentless in exposing matters like this.*I THINK some of our leaders own bars in Eveline Street. What is so special about these bars that they operate till 02h00 or 03h00 and Police are doing nothing about it?*KUNENE Regional Council donated bicycles to Khorixas Police Station. A very good move from them, but for the Nampol Police head, and management, to travel and receive that donation and waste state money was a shame. Instead of allocating proper police vans like in the past, you came and received bicycles. Khorixas Nampol has only had one ‘skoroskoro’ bakkie for the past five years. Is this really the independence we were fighting for? Please allocate four new vehicles for Khorixas.GIPF Saga*SHOULD board sitting fees not go to the union? Please ask yourselves!*Why can’t we, as GIPF members, vote for the stoppage of any money to the board members until outstanding probes are finalised? The investigations into money squandered and the proposals we made. They are supported by our jealous fellow women for fear of outperforming them (men) in the work place? Women should start supporting each other and men should get over themselves! We also want to shine in our careers.
Education*WHEN is the National Library of Namibia going to start opening after hours? We need to study.*WHY do we have to pay for education in advance in Namibia? The non-refundable application fee at Unam and the Poly is too much for poor people. Please let us apply for free!*I’M a student doing a bachelor’s degree in adult education. So far, we have not received any study materials/modules for the second semester. I humbly request Unam management to do something. This will affect our studies and our exam dates are soon.*THE August mock examinations are a mess in Omusati Region. Can anyone save the situation please. Lack of confidentiality. Question papers are transported from circuits to schools late and unsealed. Pages stapled upside down. Memos come late. The timetable is squeezed together giving teachers and learners less time to mark/learn. One wonders why should we do it if no proper planning has been put in place? Please Madam Director, do something to improve the situation quickly.*DEAR Minister Iiyambo we have a problem. Nangombe Combined School in Okahao circuit, Omusati Region in Okahao is very dirty and old.Health Matters*I’M not a parent but every weekend I attend to teenage boys with varying injuries – all sustained in rugby. The fractures and concussions experienced have serious consequences on these young people’s lives. Why do parents allow their children to risk life and limb for a dangerous game which to most of them is only a pastime? Strict regulation is needed in schools’ rugby – either ban it completely for children under 16 or put in place measures to ensure that it is played safely. The SA Rugby Union is introducing concussion guidelines for their senior teams. What is Namibia doing for their children? The time to act is now!*WHY can’t the Ministry of Health employ a public relations officer so that the Minister be relieved of that duty and give attention to important business. The Karas Regional Health Office has operated without a Director for two to three years. Why is this happening? Another concern is that the population is growing but staff numbers remain the same as before independence. Nurses have become overloaded with new programmes at clinics and health centres.
*THE drivers attached to Otjimbingwe and Karibib clinics in Erongo Region do not work on Fridays and Mondays. Can the Permanent Secretary find out why because they are already off during the weekend?In and From the Regions*DOES the Otjiwarongo Library have a cleaner? The carpets are covered in dust. What is the number for other regions?*MUNICIPALITY of Walvis Bay please take care of our children’s playgrounds? The one in Kuisebmund looks like a rubbish dump.*THE Swakopmund Municipality must get serious and give out tough punishments to people who have no fences to keep their dogs in. Streets are full of dog faeces, especially Mondesa, Tulinawa and Oletweni. We are tired of this.Labour Issues*AS much as a veteran politician wants domestic workers to be paid an acceptable salary, she should also touch on the topic of training. They should also be given a form of training to be competent in their work.*WE appeal to our Minister of Labour. We are grader operators who maintain gravel roads from year to year. We work without pensions, no medical aid and no S&T. We haven’t been registered so there is no kind of benefit at all. Please help us.*CAN our Government establish a trade union to allow the police officers to strike?*THE Ministry of Labour should create a fund to stand in as collateral or security, at the High and Supreme Court, in cases of unfair dismissal when proven by an arbitrator.Please Help*I WANT to donate blood to fellow Namibians who are in need of it! But I do not know where to go here in the north.NBC*NBC how in the world can you broadcast the Olympic men’s football final just for the last 15 minutes of the match?*NBC TV reception at Ondangwa is very poor. People are putting extension lines on top of the roof to get a better picture. Even Outapi TV reception is clear, so what’s wrong with Ondangwa?
*UTONI Nujoma said on national TV that the people do not eat human rights but food. Can he please tell the nation which people he was referring to and how he compares human rights to food? If he meant the Namibian people, maybe he should visit our dumpsites and fnd his answers there of how to compare the two.*GIVE it up for Utoni Nujoma ‘people don’t eat human rights, people eat food’.
