* HI Ms Lister, please do an evaluation of the performance of our Members of Parliament. Some need to be fired, some need to retire, some must stop sleeping and snoring, some need to contact the people to find out about our needs and wants and some must brush up their reading and debating skills! Please you are the mirror of our democracy! Be real change makers.

– Miss Sophy
* THE case of (Aletta) /Goagoses is worrisome. These loan systems, whether by banks, lawyers are there to devour the poor. There is no commensurate comparison between owing N$15 000 and losing an asset worth N$280 000. Parliament should look into these draconian capitalist loan laws. They are there to unfairly enrich the sharks known for the act of devouring.
Food For Thought
* HEADS must roll for the water disaster at Walvis Bay! Those responsible must be held accountable! What if it was Windhoek being stuck without water for a week? Why did NamWater not monitor the water reservoir, why was the pump infrastructure not properly maintained? Why was the Kuiseb flood not anticipated since it has happened before? This is unacceptable! We the public are far too compliant. Our right to a national document is being threatened, due to incompetence on the part of Home Affairs. The media are being threatened and now we at Walvis Bay are deprived of a fundamental need, yet we keep quiet, accept it and carry on with our lives. Can somebody tell me why?
* THE situation at Walvis Bay is getting ridiculous! Seems that NamWater and their Swapo Party bosses have succeeded in turning Namibia’s second city and only harbour into a third-world rural area! Seems we are well on the way to Zimbabwe! Maladministration, negligence, corruption and jobs for comrades are to blame for this. Like the Mariental, and northern floods, the Kuiseb River floods every year yet nothing has been done by the Government and NamWater to prevent these disasters. What a shame, 19 years of Independence and incompetence! Things have to change and they have to change now!
House horror
* WE as a society are the lawmakers and we can review these. Per Constitution we are entitled to shelter. True that the Vaatz lawyers followed the law, however, selling N$280 000 worth for N$15 000 to the messenger of the court, nogal, smacks of corruption. Can lawmakers address this matter? We are a sick society under the pretext of following the laws to the letter and ‘spirit’.
* STOLEN house. That’s why lawyers have a bad reputation. The way the cookie crumbles! Give us a break.
* THE Gobabis woman, whose house was sold, is the tip of the iceberg when it comes to banks and lawyers ganging up, at the smallest of defaults, to literally rob people. Something needs to be done to stop this unscrupulous conduct of lawyers and banks.
* PEOPLE of Namibia, where are we heading? I am referring to the article in Friday’s The Namibian about the woman’s house worth N$280 000 sold for N$15 000 to a messenger of the court just because she owed N$1 000. The credit laws are clear: don’t give credit were the borrower might not be able to pay it back. For that amount furniture was a viable option not the house. The cherry on the house, I mean on the cake, who bought the house now? Wonder why lawyers are always portrayed as snakes in suits! Our leaders please protect us from these sharks according to our Constitution!
* SHAME on you! Mr Venter, show me a house that you bought worth N$15 000. Be reasonable, the lady didn’t get it just like that on the silver plate. She sweated for it to have a roof over her head for her and family.
* IT is so unfair to take a house from people like that. It also happens in Windhoek with our citizens. Our Government take care of it please.
* I FEEL very sorry for Ms Aletta but how can a house be sold for N$15 000 to the Messenger of Court? Can the Ministry of Justice intervene because its complete corruption. That just prove that the rich are getting richer and the poor becoming poorer. How many people will lose their houses this way
* I’M very sorry for Aletta /Goagoses who lost her house. She should have acted on correspondences before. Good lesson for all those who ignore legal reminders. – Mubasen George-OTT
Bouquets And Brickbats
* THE advent of cellular communication has brought convenience, but must be used responsibly. Dialling a wrong number or SMSing at midnight is not the smartest thing to do.
* AS people living in the city let us stop having issues with everything the Municipality is doing. I don’t see a problem with the new street display signs. It shows that someone is planning and it’s being executed. Thanks City Council – B P E
* I THINK all the employees in all Government departments lack communication skills. They are so rude over the phone and, to make matters worse, sometimes there is just no one answering the phone. What do these people come and do at work? It seems as if they are always on vacation. Please change your habits at work.
City Fathers, Please …
* THERE are deep potholes in Eveline Street! Who from the City of Windhoek is responsible for renovating the road? They damaged my 330 BMW and I almost overturned! They only rush to auction poor people’s houses but can’t maintain the roads!
* SOME of the shops in the shopping centre in Katutura’s Independence Avenue, opposite the Katutura Post Office that houses Shoprite, Standard Bank etc. are flooded with sewerage water because of blocked drains. Now to the City of Windhoek and the landlord, do I need to say anything further?
* CITY of Windhoek, a certain shebeen owner in Golgota is charging an extra N$0,50 for prepaid electricity! Is it legal?
* THE service from the City of Windhoek sucks. Why must I phone four different numbers, the last a cell number, to get hold of somebody to put the interlocks back in place, which were taken out during some work done by them recently. They should invest in a contact person who would take up your complaint and get it sorted out. Just do it!
General
* CAN anyone tell me what kind of foods contain zinc? I really want to know. – Beef, liver, lamb, pork, chicken, shellfish, beans, peas and nuts are good sources of zinc. – Newsdesk
* FELLOW Namibians, let’s stand together and fight this prostitution in our city, Windhoek. Our husbands are now working late, coming home tired because of prostitutes. – Troubled Housewife
* QUESTION: what laws and fines are applicable in Namibia regarding the ‘illegal’ downloading of music from the Internet?
Politics
* WHILE President (Hifikepunye) Pohamba is emphasising multiparty democracy as a basis for a making positive contribution to the socio-economic development of our country, the Governor of Hardap Region was distributing kegs of deadly political powder ‘we are not going to allow any enemies here, this is Swapo Region’ May I know, who are the enemies referred to here? Are we really politically educated?
* WHERE will the money come from? The Namibian Government is increasing the salaries of its workers and the so-called war veterans, while the whole world is doing the opposite. If global crises continue for the next two years, how will they sustain this? Retrenchments, post freezing and early retirements are to be inevitable. What will the politics be like?
* TO all politicians and the electorate and the taxpayers, I urge you to read the Political Perspective in The Namibian, Friday February 20, and let it be the guide when voting later in the year. What an eye-opener!
* I AGEE totally with Alexactus Kaure that President (Hifikepunye) Pohamba should pardon the Caprivi accused as a gesture of national reconciliation on Namibia’s 20th Independence anniversary
* THE Swapo strategy of holding rallies and meeting at the same tim
e as those of rival parties in a bid to steal the other’s thunder puts the ruling party on shaky ground with the political temperature getting high. I urge all political parties to show some restraint. – Kamati
ACC Alert
* ACC should investigate why the production of the locally made soapie, ‘The Ties That Bind Us’, was not completed. Only seven of the 26 episodes were done, while millions were spent. It’s unfair for other production houses who have also tendered for the NBC/Film Commission soapies.
* I UNDERSTAND from reliable sources that, apart from technical reasons, trains departing after hours, especially those carrying passengers, are delayed on purpose by the staff on duty to claim overtime.
* I AM concerned about the way the Electoral Commission elects officials from our Otavi area. Nobody’s been elected. Names have just been published.
Off The Rails
* THE trains, buildings and every assets of TransNamib are falling apart while the management is fighting the workers. The self-enrichment expanded their hearts.
In And From The Regions
* COULD the president please declare the North in a state of emergency. Towns and rural areas are severely flooded. Malaria and cholera are around the corner. More resources are urgently needed!
* PLEASE Mrs Governor of Karas tell the people the truth. The real enemies of Namibian society are poverty, disease, unemployment and underdevelopment but not opposition parties that they want to vote for to lead them
* YOU are right by saying we shouldn’t blame town councils for rainwater. But if you can compare the roads of Ondangwa and Ongwediva, what infrastructure control are you describing?
* PLEASE Gobabis Town Council remove the street kids from the street and give them shelter, they really deserve it.
* NHE, when are retention repairs to the houses in Ondangwa extension two going to be carried out? We are tired of being pushed around between your office in Oshakati and the contractors. We are not getting value for our investment with all the defects and sub-standard materials which were used for construction. The new houses were constructed in a swamp and are now flooded; where is the credibility of NHE in all this?
* THE house of Hon Councillor of Okahao Constituency was submerged by floodwater and emergency rescue team from Okahao municipality and Police had to be called in to help. Water is at knee level all over in the house. A makeshift tent was erected on the nearby high ground. Please GRN rescue also needy affected people in the area, not only the Councillor.
Education
* THE Ministry of Education please do something . We learners in the North are suffering due to a lack of teaching aids. Imagine I’m a learner in Grade 10 but yet I don’t know what a garden trowel looks like in reality. Please. – Concerned Learner
And Justice for All
* THERE’S a lack of cohesion between the courts and the Police. Why should a matter be postponed if all parties involved in the case are present and the court disregards those present? Clearly a waste of state resources at the expense of the taxpayer! Katutura Court, justice delayed is justice denied!
On the Box
* THE teenager who’s complaining about kiddies’ programmes, don’t be selfish. NBC is keeping those kiddies off the streets not to be hit by cars. Think of your sibling my dear. Keep your books open. Forget kasi music. – Proud father!
