SMS Of The Day
*THE story by Tye Love entitled: ‘Complain a little less smile a little more’ in Tuesday’s paper was very inspirational. It’s amazing how foreigners always have to remind us of how beautiful our country and people are. Tell her I said thank you for the inspiration and reminder too.
Food for Thought*NAMPOWER: A manager is forced to resign because he omitted to place an advertisement lauding a public figure in the newspaper? We Namibians must stop idolising human beings. Mandela celebrates his birthday every year and one hardly sees an ad in the SA newspapers congratulating him. Can someone tell me why are we doing this besides lining the coffers of newspapers? Bouquets and Brickbats*DEPUTY Minister Stanley Simata thank you very much for emphasising that: ‘Leadership is the key to service delivery’.- Public Servant*WHAT incredible work done by Dr Bosshart. We need 12 more Dr Bossharts to cover each of our 13 regions for better and improved health care services to our rural areas. *GOD bless you Dr Melitta Bosshart may the Almighty give you more power to save the nation.
Dr Melitta Bosshart*PEOPLE like Dr Melitta Bosshart need to be awarded with permanent residence to help San people. *I WAS in Mangetti Dune a couple of times. There I saw what Dr Melitta Bosshart is doing. Not to mention the kitchen you oversee. You really are a true hero. *HURRAY to Minister Iyambo for going undercover to see for himself the lack of responsibility displayed by some teachers. It’s high time the rotten apples are exposed. TUN’s statements are simply nonsensical.*M KAVIHUHA (TUN) is joking right? We as parents demand that teachers set a good example for our kids by showing up on time and by providing quality education. Exposing the negative behaviours of such teachers is the right way to go otherwise change won’t come. Kavihuha, defending the negative behaviour of teachers doesn’t benefit our children. Thank you very much Minister Iyambo for your hard work and for fighting for excellent education at our schools.*SEEING the Minister of Education paying surprise visits to schools riddled with teacher absenteeism is commendable but at the same time ridiculous. Where are the directors? Minister, in addition to your salary and benefits, take over theirs as they prove to be useless. Your work on the ground approach must be emulated by your colleagues. Keep it up.In the news*EARTHRACE are correct. Government’s excuse that seals eat all the fish is pathetic, it’s human overfishing that is causing fish numbers to fall. Tourism is going to suffer over this issue, then see what Government decides. It’s inhuman to perpetuate such cruelty.*PETE Bethune, if the seal culling is so bad for our image why haven’t any of the other big enviro groups come here to protest? Also, why hasn’t any EU country imposed sanctions against us?*NOT true. We, as Namibians, don’t feed on seals but on fish. Earthrace, keeping seals in Namibian sea waters is an injury not only to our gem resource which is fish but also an injury to the country’s economy.- Nakashwa, Omuthiya*NAMIBIA’S seal culling does NOT make financial sense. Only a few benefit, whereas we stand to lose more if Namibia is black-listed internationally. Things should be more transparently.*AS a Namibian I completely abhor the seal culling! I am ashamed of our country and ask the question of exactly who benefits again? Is it just another get-rich-quick-scheme? Wake up and see the long-term consequences of your actions Fisheries and Marine Resources.*THE culling of seals in our waters is not for self-enrichment or intentional cruelty to animals, but merely to sustain our fish population which we always aim to produce in proportional quantity to sustain economical need and feed the nation.*I FAIL to understand why educated people still refer to homosexuality as an immoral practice! Referring to the article ‘Immoral’ Herero Mall in Katutura regulated! Please use words that won’t offend people!Old SoldiersRobben Island prison*I HAVE read a book called ‘Never Follow a Wolf’, a sort of a biography of struggle hero and Robben Island icon Helao Shitywete I want to ask: Was this man ever given a top post in Government? And what does he do now? Is he not living like late Col Nankudu and others in the ghetto? I as a youth want to know.MVA*THE MVA is a bottomless pit in its current business model.*NAMIBIA has lost touch with remuneration packages for senior and middle management. The MVA Fund is bankrupt due to self enrichment, big talk and ZERO productivity! Please fire the lot of them!Counting HeadsCounting the population*ACC and the National Planning Commission must investigate candidates selected to work for the census in Omusati Region. People who met the requirements were not selected while those without minimum requirements are selected. The Regional Council is full of corruption. NPC must investigate and verify the qualifications of the selected candidates.*RESIDENTS of Windhoek be warned that there are people walking around from house to house, especially in town, claiming that they are doing a practice on the census while the real counting comes in August. It happened at my sister’s house while she was at work.*WE need a proper answer from the National Planning Commission about the outcome of census names that were posted to Okahao Constituency Office. How come some names are written in ink, some names are even deleted and replaced with others? Where is a printed names list? These handwritten lists are a mystery.- Matti, Okahao constituency*NPC should clarify on when exactly their census is starting. Four NPC officials wearing census T-shirts and in a GRN car were at my house twice. They returned because the houses numbers (near Hyper in Khomasdal) were rejected by their system. The number that was put in the newspaper for enquiry remains unanswered! Business as Usual*I AM very concerned about Trans-Namib. This company misses its objective. Properties? Transport, yes. Get the right people who can bring back rail transport. Contract an estate agency for your property rentals. TransNamib is flushing money down the drain.Education*WELL done Dr Iyambo for your surprise visit at Centaurus school. This time please dress like a parent enrolling a child with a disability and see the response.- Pamela*WHO is to be blamed if Centaurus Grade 12s fail? Thank you for the visit, but action should be taken. If someone is not prepared to teach, he or she must just resign. *GOOD work by Dr Abraham Iyambo that you caught Centaurus teachers. I trust in a short time our education system will be better. Hope you will be our next prime minister or head of state. But what is happening now at the Ministry of Fisheries? I don’t hear anything anymore. Is everything OK now? *ROAD accidents are high now. I recommend the Education Ministry to include a compulsory driver’s course in the curriculum from Grade 1 to 12.*ARIAMSVLEI Primary School Hostel. The children are very dirty. The childcare workers are not doing their work properly. Communication skill*WE are the learners at Eluwa Special School want to ask Mr Abraham Iyambo why did you forget special school? *ARE we inmates now? I am a learner at Omukwiyugwemanya SSS and I hate the way we are being treated like prisoners. We need to be free like other human beings. Dr Iyambo visit the school and come talk to the learners.*DEAR Dr Abraham Iyambo we Grade 10 learners at Windhoek High School are tired of some teachers not teaching. They are forever busy on phones and laptops. Visit our school as soon as possible.
*MINISTER Iyambo please you shattered our dreams. You travelled to the North and addressed teachers about the bush allowance issue. You promised us that the money will be paid out from 1 June to 30 July 2011 but all was in vain. We are very disappointed. – Concerned teacher.*WHEN is Dr Iyambo coming to visit Okakarara VTC? Because we need our school to be in order and so that our instructors/management can be serious about their jobs.*DR Iyambo please visit Suiderlig High School and Mina Sachs.Learning out of doors*DEAR Mr Iyambo we need help at Katutura kindergartens. There are teachers who have not been registered at Social Security while they have worked. They are not paid on time, get no leave and if they complain, they are chased away with no nothing. Please we need help.*WE the IUM students are tired of waiting for a solution concerning our results. A month ago we wrote for our higher diploma. We need our results to apply for the fourth year. They must tell us if they will allow us to register when they finish, because they the ones who cause the delay.*KHORAB Namcol teachers try to return our assignments and April test papers. We want them before the final examination.*DR Iyambo please call the former teachers back to education. There are teachers in categories C and D and aged 48 to 50. They are good those former teachers. Call them back please.Law and Order*DEFENCE Force please assist Nampol especially on weekends in Rehoboth. Nights are very noisy and dangerous. Nampol do ask for their assistance. Note that many of these are youngsters from Windhoek taking advantage with no City Police*PLEASE allow me to ask Henties Bay police. If I drink a beer at the club and go out with the open beer then they declare that I’m drinking on a street. But they don’t consider the fact that I’m still on the business erf. They are only saying that you must not come out of the club with an open beer. You also can’t leave your open beer in the club and come out. Please help me or the police of Henties Bay to understand this. Thank you.- Concerned resident, Henties Bay
City Fathers Please…*CITY of Windhoek you are saying the cost for fixing rain-damaged streets is N$60m but the City has only N$25m budgeted for in the current financial year. My friendly advice to you is please put the construction of your new office of N$40m on hold and that will give you an extra N$40m and a total budget of N$65m to spend on fixing roads, and of course N$5m savings. Surely you can make do with the old office which has got all the luxuries one can think of. *CITY of Windhoek when are you going to clean up along Eulen Street in Hochlandpark. No cleaning has been done since the end of the rainy season. Weeds have grown on the road. Please provide the service that we pay for. Service Please*CAN somebody please explain to me how Nampost Courier calculate their tariffs? A 67gr A4 envelope to Katima on July 4 N$ 44 and a 36gr A5 envelope to Katima on July 21 N$ 58. How on earth does this work?Labour Issues*LOOKING for bar lady and security guard. Salary N$600. In the classifieds of The Namibian. Is that a joke?- Underpaid security guard. *I FEEL so ashamed by just the thought of belonging to a union which is in denial of its wrongdoings, by harassing those who are trying to expose corruption. Surely, certainly late Comrade Pandeni and the brave patriots are turning in their graves as their witness this mass looting. Shame on you comrades. You are sabotaging our own hard won freedom and economic prospects.NBC*NBC Director General Mr Albertus Aochamub you promised the Namibian nation that you will reinstate ‘Open Line’ and ‘Ewilamanguluka’ programme in the air. When you will do it? We Namibians want it now to express our views.- Luckie Ebas*WHY does NBC show movies of crime, fighting and bloodshed? Otherwise it’s ghosts, evil, political espionage and trees killing people? Why can’t we watch decent movies like ‘Pursuit of Happiness’, ‘The Note’, ‘Trump Business’ and the likes. Please we’re a family channel involved in nation building. Give us something decent. I thank you.Service Please*DIRECTORATE of Civil Aviation, the following telephone numbers always go unanswered: 702262, 702250 and 702253. We know that this directorate is led by a director but I wonder what is being done in terms of supervision. If you visit these three offices during working days, doors are always closed. Only the telephone number 702260 is active and this office is always helpful. Keep it up. THanks- J Copper, South Africa.*CHANGING a person’s surname takes 5 months. Workers of Home Affairs in town, what are you doing? *LEGAL Shield – prescribed conveyancing fees. Other professional fees, architects, engineers etc should also be challenged. I support Trustco’s efforts!*LEGAL fees for transfers shocking? The amount of work stays same whether property costs $N50 000 or N$50 million, so what warrants escalation of fees? *ATM Ariamsvlei. Poor service delivery. When its month end or on the 20th of every month this FNB ATM is out of order or there is no money. We want better service. Karasburg branch must solve this problem because they are responsible for it.ACC Alert*ACC must intervene! MoHSS staff in Kavango Region awarded themselves the catering tender for the NID Campaign. Is this not a conflict of interest? Their vehicles were also registered for remuneration packages. How can they benefit at the expense of the poor. Please investigate.*CAN the ACC please come to Witvlei. Or must we contact the President himself? The people of the council are crippling us with wrong accounts. ACC show us what you stand for.Lost and Found*I LOST two South African passports and a South African identity document in the name of Roger Smith in Olympia Wednesday afternoon (July 20).
