SMS Of The Day
*WE say that Namibia is ours, but is Namibia for its people? Why demolish your people’s homes while you sleep in a warm bed at night? What if it was your home that was demolished? So what if they settled illegally, they are trying to better themselves. But if our country doesn’t want to help them, where will we end up in a few years time?

Food for Thought*RE ‘Africa fails her newborn children’, The Namibian, June 13. It is time to wake up to the fact that the biggest crisis the world faces today is over-population. Africa is not yet over-populated like other continents and we should keep it that way. If every mother could take control over her body and assert the right to replace only her and her partner, she would have such a better chance and financial means to raise (two) healthy and well-educated children who in turn would contribute to the welfare of our beloved continent.Bouquets and Brickbats*THE City of Windhoek has no heart! Their timing stinks! Even if the people are illegal they could have waited till winter is over! They sure are for money only. Make available serviced erven so that there can’t be any illegal squatters.
*CITY of Windhoek it fills me with sadness and hatred to see how you demolished the shacks of the poor without a solution. You have waited for winter to do this. The next effort will be during our next rainy season I guess. The apartheid regime never did it in such a manner nor did they ever do it to their poor white people in South Africa in those days. Please do not treat our poor like dogs. They deserve a helping hand and not rejection. How do you prevent crime if you create criminal environments. We need more women in power. – FT*PLEASE City of Windhoek what you are doing to us poor people is unfair. Where do you want us to go and stay? When are we going to enjoy this Namibia as our motherland? Please leave our shacks alone. Stop destroying our houses. We are not refugees. Give us land so that we can start to pay. Goreangab Dam shacks owners are not happy with what you did on Wednesday.*WHO is supposed to pay for servicing erven for the unemployed? The hard-working middle class who are already struggling to make ends meet with all the tariff increases? Soon we’ll have to live in kambashus too, who’s going to subsidise services then?*MTC is becoming a public nuisance. Every now and then they send out messages to Tango clients at midnight, waking up the whole country. Why should they send out messages so late? They must not send messages at awkward times. They must be called to order. Public decency calls for normalcy.*ARE Namibian radio stations in short supply of music or is it just the announcers / DJs who are boring? Many times when I’m driving I skip from one station to the next just to hear the same boring music being repeated. And if it is not the boring music then it is boring talking and laughing with no specific topical discussion. Where are the likes of Usi Hoëbeb, Robin Tyson, Levi-Lee Abrahams, Naomi Kazombiaze, Tamati Tjituka, John Caddy and others from those times? Can you please come and teach this young generation what is expected from radio announcers? From the House*RESPECT to Comrade Nickey Iyambo. This is the second time he has shown the guts and the ability for self-criticism. 1) He publicly declared his disagreement with some regulations concerning the election of a Swapo official in the North. 2) He admits that the current administration has failed to curb alcohol misuse in Namibia. Respect, comrade!*MINISTER Kazenambo’s contribution on Hon Moongo’s motion was true. You are the only one who sees truth among Swapo members. If this is not done our younger generation will lose their chance of a career and the number of street kids in our country will increase.*DO health inspectors ever come to higher educational institutions like Unam? The kitchens students are expected to cook are in an unhygienic state and the stoves are not working! We pay a lot of money. Please upgrade the place. *MWESHIPANDEKA SSS is breaking up. Remember we lost to Nigeria, but Malawi drew. Let’s plan thoroughly and sing loud praises to the Warriors if we finally qualify.- Elvis*NBC needs sponsors for live broadcasts? If the equipment and competent staff are available for live broadcasts, what is the money needed for?*PLEASE do not fund live TV for the Brave Warriors matches, rather fund radio. Namibians need to leave the comfort of their sitting rooms and go to support the team.*AS a family man I would love to go to the stadium to support our Brave Warriors. But with the attitude of our people drinking and using foul language, I don’t think I want to expose my children to that. It’s time our people realise how to act decently in public.- Concerned father.Lost and Found*I LOST my bag with ID and other documents. Please call 081-382-5893.Responses to recent SMSes*I WISH to encourage the lady with a child with special needs. As a mother of a nine-year-old old autistic child, I really feel for what she’s going through. She needs to take her child to a specialist to be diagnosed. Since the child cannot read at that stage, he needs to go to a special school like Dagbreek in Klein Windhoek. He probably also needs speech therapy and occupational therapy to help the child organise and learn at his own pace without pressure. That frustrates him causing to hit out and use sharp objects because that’s what makes him feel better. What she needs to know is that every child has some sort of potential. He just needs a lot of support to realise it. My advise to you is to never give up on your son for now you are the only person who can help him. – Magano (081-772-5976)
