SMS Of The Day
*ARE national leaders not members of the public? I attended Mr Kaaronda’s public lecture at Unam that dealt with pertinent social issues but there was not even a councillor! The Namibian political leadership has truly failed its electorate, but I would like to thank Mr Kaaronda for his frank opinions and for standing up against our so-called leaders and also for the Friedrich Ebert Stiftung for creating the platform. May God bless you all.

Food for Thought*IN answer to ‘On seals and man’: a very eloquent and well thought out letter. I cannot fault the facts that are mentioned. But as an animal lover I can fault the method which is used to cull the seals. Surely there is a more humane and less painful and violent way of disposing with these animals? Even if it costs a bit more! The flip side of the coin which worries me immensely is what this violent killing spree is doing to the minds of the people actively involved in it? They must be so desensitised to violence and blood and pain, how do they cope with life afterwards?Bouquets and Brickbats*COMMISSIONER Kashihakumwa I salute you for a job well done but do something about those school children who are hitch-hiking at Ongwediva robots. Their lives are in danger. Thank you *THAT’S very good news. Oranjemund an open town. We hope that it will soon be the case for Rosh Pinah. – LizTurn down volume please*SHAME on you Tobie Aupindi. Who invited you to deliver a hateful and discouraging speech at the Polytech’s 16th cultural festival? Do not come here to mislead students. We are here to study. – Polytech student*DR Tobie Aupindi’s speech at the Polytech’s international cuisine opening was very inspiring. Please invite him in future for motivational talks at our institution.- Student. *COULD someone please contact the Polytechnic and ask them to turn the volume down? I know it is the start of their semester but the rest of us are having exams. I am personally finding it very hard to concentrate and sleep.- Peter*DR Tjivukua do something. How do you expect students to concentrate in class during the cultural festival? *YOUR staff reporter would appear to have very little experience of what constitutes the best and worst cafes in Windhoek. Did he/she only try the four mentioned? There are many more than your best, and even more than your worst featured!*WHY does the Government put a large sum of money into building a museum? Why can’t they build a university in other towns?Business as Usual*THE management at Langer Heinrich, the report on Wednesday speaks volume. That’s why we want a union to protect us because safety comes first. Please MD. *I AM so disappointed with Ohorongo Cement. Their retail prices are similar to the South African cement. I had to buy about 200 bags of cement from China because they are cheaper. Can Ohorongo review its pricing strategy please else I want the Cheetah cement to come back! Horn of Africa*WHY is there such a demand to help Somalia? Shouldn’t we look after our own homeless and hungry citizens first? *THE AU will hold a donors conference on 9 Aug for Horn of Africa while the West is already dispatching aid. So much for Africa being able to solve its own problems. No wonder the situation in Libya. Act late and blame the West for the mess.- Romanus*THE AU is postponing the donor conference to assist the drought victims in the Horn of Africa till the end of August because they have got plenty of time. In the meantime, the USA and the Western powers keep feeding the African people in Somalia and keep them alive. Now who are the real brothers and sisters of the poor peoples of Africa? *CAN we send cans of our esteemed fish that we are so protecting from the seals to the people of Somalia?Seals*MINISTER Bernard Esau, we strongly support you on your recent stand on harvesting of more seals. This is what we all have been waiting for to happen. Surely within the next two to three years we might open a factory processing leather products in Henties Bay as well. Erongo Region let’s support the Minister in this regard.- Councillor M Skini, Henties Bay *THANK you Minister Esau, for the good news! My opinion is that the clubbers should receive proper training and observers be allowed, but anybody who says that the seals could become an endangered species should fly over the beach from the Kunene to the Orange rivers. Have you done that, Mr Francois Hugo?- M H*MINISTER of Fisheries I fully support what you said that you will increase seal culling quotas next year during the harvest season.- Aila, Henties Bay*HAVING been born and growing up at the coast I fully support Minister Esau. Unemployment and social benefits can be covered through leather work, medicine/ animal feed. Think Namibian, thumbs up.- PT Iimbambah, Henties Bay.ACC Alert*THE memorandum the ACC and RA has signed is like a trip without a destination. Mr Noa should not fool this nation. The big fish swim freely while the small fish are targeted. Mr Noa should stand up and investigate cases like GIPF where big fish are swimming.Counting Heads*THE National Planning Commission is not taking us trainers serious. They promised to pay our S&T but today is our third day at training. How on earth can we survive without money and yet they are expecting us to deliver at this training? Please Mr Tom Alweendo please shake up your officials. They are letting your office down. *Census 2011 – Okahandja Constituency. Can someone please tell me the criteria for selecting candidates to work for the 2011 Census? Because in Okahandja the list of names was out and we were told we would be called for training. Later the census officials had a problem with that list and we wrote a test for Grade 10s and 12s and another list came out containing candidates that are employed in the Government already. We complained but have not had any response. *NATIONAL Planning Commission, why did you take people who are already working to be trainers as enumerators and again leave out most people with tertiary qualifications and unemployed? Ministry of Gender officers leave their office to attend training in Tsumeb for the census. What is happening in Namibia? Is this not corruption?- A concerned, unemployed, Namibian graduate
Politics*SELF enrichment must stop! Why there is no term limit for parliamentary leaders? Imagine! Since Independence the liberation struggle members are still in Parliament including those who became MPs since Independence! Does it mean others cannot become leaders! Avoid Libya’s style! The time to give a chance to the others is now! Thanks!- Mkita Health Matters*DOCTORS please stop booking off people from work for the smallest ailments, this negatively impacts on our economy and is tantamount to economic sabotage.City Fathers Please*I HAVE a problem with the transport of the City of Windhoek. The problem in the morning is the buses travelling from Okuryangava to Cimbebasia. The bus gets full at the first two bus stops and travels to Cimbebasia. Please can the people working with transport send us two buses for Cimbebasia from that side of Okuryangava. One bus to load us from the Women’s Centre and the other one from Leeyta shop bus stop please! Please do something for us CoW Transport division!*I AM really tired of living at an illegal place with no water or electricity. Why do we have a mayor of Windhoek? Government when are they going to survey and service the land? When are we going to own land in our own country? It seems now land is only for the rich people we are electing, but we want people to think of us too. We thought they would bring changes. Viva to the councillors in the North who are doing their job, and the Minister of Education. In and From the Regions*CAN the Ondangwa Town Council put an electricity pole at Okangwena behind ABC restaurant. We are in darkness. Please help us, we are even afraid to walk in that street. – Tina, Ondangwa*I HUMBLY ask leaders at all levels to request their communities in Kavango Region to stop the habit of walking on the tarred road. I visited the region and it was difficult for me to drive from Mururwani to Kavango Prison Services.- Zedek*PESCANOVA Lüderitz, why can’t we buy hake fillets at your fish shop anymore? Why do you export all of it? We want hake to be sold again!*MUNICIPALITY of Walvis Bay please look at the schools in your area. Some teachers are in need of a place to stay while they teach. These teachers pay taxes to the Government of Namibia and they are renting which is too much. You need to provide plots for them to build which is better than renting.
Education*NAMIBIA has an inclusive education policy and yet it appears private schools do not have to adhere to it. Try enrolling a child with disabilities at any one. With some of the best teachers in the country, they claim they are unable to cope with learners with dyslexia, ADHD and other learning difficulties. Where is one supposed to send their child? Are education and equal opportunities not for all in private schools after all?*DR Iyambo since you like to call us lazy, take the law into your own hands and say that we’re being unlawful towards our learners, did you ever ask the learners why they don’t adhere to their teachers’ (requests) and stop the high number of failures and why parents dump their kids at school and never care about their progress? Is this what we really deserve? We stand in where society fails us, we protect our learners from harm. Thanks to you, Mr Minister we’re no longer respected but blamed for everything that comes on the way. Namibian people teaching is a noble profession and we need to be respected. It is not us who is failing the system but the majority of parents. Let’s all clean our yards before we points fingers at teachers.- Mr Hope*MINISTER of Education you will never get better results if you are abusing, accusing and humiliating teachers. You are not making them deliver at all, but only making them lose their self esteem, focus and hope. *I HAVE a concern about the learner who was expelled from school after he failed to bring his parent on time. When they came they were told that his name had already been deleted from the attendance register because he had been out for more than 15 days. Now what does the future hold for this child? Do teachers have the right to expel learners from school? If they do, do they have learners’ interests at heart? Please help the exam is approaching and that learner had missed out on a CAS mark. Labour Issues*PLEASE Oshikoto labour inspector come and visit Oshivelo vegetable project and see how the workers are being treated. Service Please*PLEASE Nedbank. We need an ATM in Yetu shopping centre.Lost and Found*I FOUND a wallet containing the ID and other cards of Genevieve Ujaha. Contact me on 081-203-7391.*SIAMESE female cat lost in Rietfontein Street, Kleine Kuppe. She has an orange collar with a bell.
