Need and greed * I WANT to make a request to the line ministers and the nation that CEOs of the parastatals be required to pay back public money which they put into loss making investments. They should also be fired for mismanaging public enterprises as well as costing the taxpayers money through unnecessary court cases.
* THE Government must seriously consider practical policies to alleviate poverty and unemployment in this country. It is the conditions of need that forced Sanna (//Garoës, who was murdered by the B1 Butcher) to risk her life. Ministers, please stop theorising about combating poverty and unemployment. You were elected to uplift the welfare of the nation. Up the President, down with alcohol! * YES, Mr President! Refuse to lead a drunk and corrupt nation. Show the world your leadership credentials! Long live President Pohamba! Swapo and the future* TO say that Sam Nujoma is the only one capable of leading Swapo is an insult to Nujoma himself and the party. A true leader ensures that leadership qualities are passed on to the next generation through influence and wisdom.Do we mean Nujoma does not posses this? Do we mean Swapo ends with Nujoma? He must quit and be an advisor to the party.* IT’s mindboggling the way Swapo keeps changing goal posts to suit party president Sam Nujoma. He’s assured of winning the presidency as he’s manipulated party primary elections, the women and union congresses and put his praise singers in pole positions. Swapo members please wake up … Let Pohamba be party president.* IF Nelson Mandela could step aside for Thabo Mbeki, why not Nujoma for Pohamba?* A CHANGE in the Swapo top leadership is what the country needs to go forward. We need a new and formidable political platform, which appeals to all Namibians and is capable of turning things around come the 2009 national elections.* AT its forthcoming congress, the Swapo Party must not allow candidates to stand for the party’s presidency, but instead give the right to the head of state to choose his successor in both the party and to run for the national presidential election.* WHY are are so many people, including non-Swapo members so concerned about developments in Swapo. We are contented with our honorary leaders. Discuss development as citizens! We need answers* IS the Anti Corruption Commission aware that public servants, especially those working for the Ministry of Works, are using friends, relatives and briefcase companies to assist them in tendering for Government jobs. These companies and individuals are later used by the very same public servants for their own benefit. The lifestyles of some of these public servants can certainly not be funded by their monthly salaries. We want to know where the extra money comes from?* CAN TransNamib please employ competent managers without looking at their political credentials. Stop wasting our tax money! * We were very happy with the closure of the Maperes Bar in Greenwell Matongo. But to our surprise and anger the bar has now been re-opened. – R Haufiku* I WANT to know from the Minister of Education how many points a candidate should score for admission to colleges of education? Is the Minister satisfied that all students at colleges met stipulated requirements? Maybe it is time to take stock.* What happened to the Road Construction Company’s (RCC) B1 City project and is the ACC running out of petty cash?General* CONGRATULATIONS to Acting Judge Raymond Heathcote. He is a real jurist. From the Avid case to last week’s case involving the inheritance to a child born out of wedlock, you can see that here is a jurist who devotes and dedicates his time to his work. Keep up the good work, we are proud of you. – Toivo* I THINK that the President has done a good thing. He recognises that it is not good to be glorified. I am also against worshipping individuals through street naming. It would be a good if streets could be named after institutions rather than individuals. Yes, viva (President) Pohamba!* STREET names should be only for people who have passed away, not living mayors, etc. You don’t honour yourself. Others must do that.* IT is disturbing to see how Namibians are not really involved in matters of their own wealth. Surprisingly, this is not only confined to ordinary Namibians, but people you would have thought would be in the know. This became very clear during the application in the High Court last week by the First Rand Group to repatriate retirement annuity funds from South Africa to Namibia as long-term insurance business. The court was lectured by the applicants on the benefits Namibia stands to gain from this exercise, but no mention was made about why and on whose authority these funds left Namibia in the first place. Namfisa, wake up.* RECENTLY, Jurie Viljoen, an MP of Monitor Action Group, tabled a motion in the Parliament, arguing that young white Namibians should also be considered for affirmative action status. I am 100% in agreement with Viljoen. I’m shocked to know that 17 years after Independence we still have an affirmative action policy to consider individuals for jobs and other opportunities.* THE competency of the commanding officers of NamPol is under the microscope with their inability to arrest the murderers of the German tourist and the B1 Butcher. As long as we have the current bunch of commanders, forget about making a breakthrough with these crimes.* THE Oshakati Town Council should clean up at Oshakati! What a dirty place! PLEASE clean the town! Remember most of the Namibian population is from the North, and it is a fast-growing town. Please, Mr/Ms Town Council, clean the town!* OUR Government seems obsessed with helping only the San people. What about the suffering masses in the North of the country. Please address the plight of everyone in the country, especially those living in the northern areas. – RubbieHealth woes* I AM concerned about the lack of water at the Katutura nurses’ home. For the past four months we had not have running water and toilets are blocked. Can the ministry please address the dire situation at the nurses quarters?* I AM a regular visitor to Katutura Hospital’s 8th floor. I could see some mothers boiling water in a kettle to wash themselves and their babies. No hot water! This never happened before. Please Libby you have done enough for the San, come back to the Ministry of Health.Education* IT raises a lot of questions, which is more likely to receive evasive responses than answers, as to why Unam lags behind the Polytechnic? At the Polytechnic, students have always been able to access their results, old question papers and exam timetables on line and now they can register online. Can somebody tell what is wrong with Unam? Unam, please get serious. We need our results online not only via SMS.* I AM appealing to the Minister of Education also to consider schools in remote areas when donating equipments like computers. Our learners in rural areas are really disadvantaged. Some schools have all materials they need, even fully operational computer labs. Our schools are in such a desperate situation and we can’t even afford to buy the most basic equipment because most of our learners are orphans and do not contribute towards the school development fund. Please don’t neglect us. – Concerned Teacher* IF Government is so convinced about the quality of the Cambridge Education system, why don’t the ministers also send their children to Government schools.* I AM concerned about the recruitment process of the National Youth Service of Namibia. It was announced that the recruitment would take place at the beginning of this year, but up to now it has not started.NBC* THE NBC should do away with charging the public television licence fees considering the type of programmes it broadcasts. And one more thing, they should stop repeating programmes.* COULD the NBC please tell us why we have been been without TV and radio reception for many days now? We’re 100 km west of Windhoek. Please pull up your socks NBC – we need services. Thanks * THANKS to The Namibian for giving people a voice! It is a great contribution to democracy. Keep it up!* YES, Mr President!
