* IT is startling to hear of the involvement of foreigners in our politics. A few months back it was reported that the Angolans attended a party-political rally held in the north-central regions. Now it is again reported that the Pakistani business people, in the same regions, have donated political campaign materials worth over two million Namibia dollars. Fortunately or unfortunately, this is happening only in favour of the ruling party. Does it mean that political parties may now be funded from outside the country or by foreign companies? Which foreign funding is prohibited by law? Or is it allowed only for the ruling party?
Food For Thought* I HAVE worked at three different companies over the past three years without a contract of employment, even though I requested one. Now I’m unemployed again with little to show for my hard work. This situation explains why suicide rates are increasing, and crime. Why try to be honest when those in charge are not.Rest In Peace* THE sad passing of Mr Malima came as a shock, he was a hardworking and kind man. May his soul rest in peace. – Miss OT Kamati, MICT
Ex-soldiers On The March* WE are travelling to Upington with our own resources. The Swapo Government must leave us alone, they already failed us.- SWATF member.Politics* PLEASE Swapo Government, look after poor people in shacks in Havana and Otjomuise. They are suffering in the hands of City of Windhoek.* IT is very interesting that the Fatima Plastic Company at Oshikango, a foreign company owned by Pakistanis who got a N$3 million loan from the Namibian Development Bank, has donated N$2,5 million in election material to the Swapo Party which was accepted by President Pohamba himself. That is a bribe, no different from the Teko Trading scandal. Then the Teko trio should be left alone!Hot Debate * NON-SMOKERS, please take note that smoking is not illegal, it is only prohibited in public places (inside public houses) NOT in public open spaces. You non-smokers are only protected from second-hand smoke, not from the smell of smoke! How I smell is none of your business. So don’t bother us thinking your legislation gives you the right to infringe on ours.To smoke or not to smoke?* WE put our full support behind the tobacco legislation. It’s killing millions around the world, yet, because it is so lucrative no one dares to take action!Bouquets And Brickbats* CONGRATULATIONS Unam choir for a very professional and enjoyable performance on Sunday evening at NTN. – Hildamari* HOW can a caller to the Open Line programme on September 15 refer to another caller as an intruder? Does he own the programme?* I WOULD like to commend the Regional Sports Officer, Mr Rafael Aluteni, in the Kavango Region for his initiative and creativity. I for one like what you are doing with the Rundu Sports Stadium. It is not good that United Stars has to play in Tsumeb, but at least one can see that you are working hard to meet the end of October deadline in an effort to bring the game back to Kavango Region. Big thumbs up for your work.Running The Show* PLEASE Minister of Safety and Security could you please keep your eyes on what is going on at the Okahandja Police Station. They only know how to arrest people and take them to the holding cells without investigation and take the docket to court without evidence. That is very unfair. In And From The Regions* THE company, I think it’s NC, busy repairing and building the highway between Okahandja and Karibib should remove all that loose gravel lying on the road please. I’ve had to repair my windscreen twice.* I AM a resident of Jak-kalsdraai at Lüderitz. We are aware of the strike that is currently taking place at our Town Council! But why are they only cutting electricity supply to one area always? * WE in Eenhana are waiting to see what the Police and Women and Child Protection Unit will do against the councillor who [allegedly] severely assaulted his wife last Sunday. We say no to abusive leaders.* THERE are lots of rooms in the Walvis Bay Hospital. Please use one for a dentist. We are suffering from toothache, we can’t wait till October for renovations to be finished. It’s very far, please do something even for once a week. – AugustECN* SHAME on many MGECW officials! Instead of doing their designated job in their offices, they decided to be selfish and occupy the last job opportunity’s for our jobless brothers and sisters who might have been supplementary registration officers. The question is: who is now doing their jobs? * EVEN nurses from Onandjokwe hospital left their duties to come and work for the ECN! Leave this to others and go back!GeneralYou can when there is space* WHY can the Windhoek Public Library not make space available for students to study, the National Library does not have enough spaceAd Ban* RE the government ban on The Namibian. Perhaps the Government should keep one of Napoleon’s sayings in mind: ‘Keep your friends close but your enemies even closer’.* THOSE Cabinet ministers and high GRN officials currently spearheading The Namibian ban, it seems to be that they are the first to buy every publication each day for they know it’s the people’s and only independent paper countrywide. Just check this out and you will prove it. It’s like taking food out of your son’s mouth because you want to eat it all. Let the people be updated just like you.- Elezo Chidunkwilo, Katima MuliloDo The DisciplineCut off the talk time* IF you are concerned and want your child to pass, then take the cellphone away. MTC did not buy the phone for your child, you did. So discipline your child and stop blaming MTC.* PARENTS don’t let your children control you but control your children. It is very easy, just take the phone from the child during the night and give it back in the morning. MTC is offering something to all Namibians, and you cannot stop free calls because of your irresponsibility as a parent.- Kalangula * MTC must suspend calls till after exams because you can’t discipline your own child – what a stupid request.Education* IMMANUEL Shifidi SS is locking out latecomer kids from school premises. I think there are many ways to punish them but not lock out. You deny them education and that is heavy handed. Principal find another type of punishment.* I WOULD like to know whether it is human to let a Grade 1 child eat soap because he swears or suck his/her thumb. That’s what happens to our children at a certain school in Aranos. Are there no other forms of punishment? – Concerned parentHaving to share books* THE UN Children’s Fund says the collapse of Zim’s schooling system means up to 10 pupils are sharing one text book … The Namibian, September 15 2009.
