Don’t throw food away
* AS a youth I am begging my fellow Namibians not to throw away food or leftovers; instead put it in ice-cream containers and give it to someone along the road and you will be blessed.
Many throw food away because it has stayed in the fridge for over three days or is overcooked. Please think of those that cannot afford even to buy a brötchen. If we start helping each other like this we will alleviate poverty by caring for those that are less privileged and be heroes to many resulting in many blessings. And the crime rate will decrease because being hungry leads people to commit unnecessary crimes. That goes to the hotels, coffee shops, restaurants etc: put those leftovers put in boxes and give to the needy instead of throwing it away. You will save someone’s life by simply feeding him unlike eating out of the dustbin.- Yvonne* THE entertainment budget of the City of Windhoek shows the rampant self-indulgence and culturised self-importance of the elite which, in Namibia, unfortunately is left to prevail over the national interests.Food For Thought* TO those Inland Revenue officials who demonstrated for improved salaries, please finish my 2004 tax assessment I need the tax over-deducted from my salary. Use your lunchtime to catch up with the backlog which you created by doing private business during working hours.* THE Minister of Presidential Affairs is claiming that the Public Service Commissioner won’t be suspended without giving her a chance to state her side of the story. Did the same apply to General Shalli, what a nice way to go. – Edwin* DO the unions care enough about the unemployed?* CALL a live Presidential Debate on NBC or One Africa TV. As a Namibian who wants to participate in the coming presidential and parliamentary election in November, we demand live debates by all presidential candidates on issues affecting Namibian people such as poverty, unemployment, education, land distribution, corruption etc. Americans and South Africans have done it to ensure that we make the right choice. – A concerned Namibian youthParty Time!Entertainment in the budget* IT is unfortunate that the City of Windhoek Management opts to spend our money for their unjustifiable selfish ends. I advise to consider the situation of the impoverished majority of the city’s residents.* THE fun budget seems even more shocking now that it has been itemised! How can they admit to such frivolous expenditure with a straight face. I am disgusted.* HOW can splurging almost N$1 million be ‘simply necessary?’ And how can our mayor underestimate the Namibian public’s intellect in understanding budget process! At our company we contribute to year-end parties and being one of the biggest companies in Namibia, our budget doesn’t even come close!* KINDLY allow me to thank all the daily and weekly media and Nampa for calling the budget what it is. You together with community activists have a moral obligation to check on leaders. I felt a bit insulted by the City’s response last week. Even if that was true what have they done to correct the situation? The outcry is about transparency and accountability, but the City seems to be irritated by the attention thus not handling it well. I think what you need to do is to also tone down your attitude (over confidence). Even entertainment after council meetings to all must be cancelled. Remember when you increase tariffs to make up for e.g. inflation, unemployed and pensioners don’t get increments, thus you punish them. Taking more money from us this year is plain ill advised!* THE Chairperson of the Management Committee of the City of Windhoek, Ms Trepper, needs to resign for calling the budget pro-poor, while breaking up peoples shacks, and telling us NamWater caused them to increase their water tariffs. The Real Deal* FELLOW Namibians, tell the truth, how many of you were admiring the cute sea lion on Back of the Book front page [in Friday’s The Namibian]? Animals similar to these are clubbed to death at our coast. For meat? How many of you have consumed seal meat? Because they eat ‘our’ fish? Natural balance can be trusted, it is the human kind who overfishes for profit. For business to Asia? Let the Asian people admire the uniqueness of Cape Cross instead and it altogether will bring more benefit to Namibia. So, lets keep nature intact and the Namibian coast will prosper.Bouquets And Brickbats* IF officers at the Wanaheda Police Station could just be as polite, helpful and professional as their colleague Warrant Officer Mutota, the public will have little to complain about the service at that station. Keep up the good work officer! I hope your superiors take note of your work.- Appreciative Citizen* I ONLY want to thank the Policeman from Okongo Police Station, Mr Uiseb. I am extremely happy for noting that you started with village Police in our region, first of its kind in Ohangwena Region. Sir, you showed us that you care about us, you taught us to protect our own villages and please continue the good job. I hope your seniors take note of you. – Duma * THE Namibian newspaper should open up a radio station where we can air our views. With the little we have we will make manage.* DEAR Editor, I thank all the staff for The Namibian newspaper. But I terribly miss the paper on Saturday and Sunday. I wonder why you don’t despatch it on these two good days! I will be very grateful if you hear my lament.- Norman* THANKS Commissioner Kashihakumwa for tackling the HIV-AIDS stigma. Does this mean NamPol will no longer discriminate against recruiting those infected?* THANKS! Viva MTC for improving our network connections. We residents of Betel we are proud of you guys.- Eleaxer and Mee Talohole.Dr Joe Diescho* THANK you Dr (Joe) Diescho for the detailed speech on President Obama and his relationship with the African continent. And I would also wish to thank him for mentioning the kindness and forgiveness of the black Namibian people towards the white population. I feel that every day. Thank you Namibia!- Brita Taxi Talk* CITY of Windhoek. Thanks chief Kanime, well done r.e. taxis in Windhoek. Be strong and act promptly, it has been long overdue. Taxis have no consideration for the traffic rules, arrest and confiscate their vehicles. We are ready to assist.* NAMIBIA is a democratic country, but hey taxi drivers democracy does not mean the right to be wrong. Why is the Government fighting over signs and colour, just impose it on them. It’s a standard followed in so many countries. If you watch movies shot in other countries you must have picked that up by now.* ALL taxis operating in Windhoek, their speed must be cut to 60km/h on their speed counter, otherwise licences must not be granted.* I JUST want to ask how bolting that taxi sign on to a taxi will stop the car from being used as a getaway from a crime? Will this yellow sign stop the robberies? Come on get real and start thinking of proper solutions Chief Kanime.- Taximen unitedPolitics* ACCORDING to the meeting held in Windhoek recently by the Police and all political parties, an agreement was made stating that no rallies or meetings would be held within residential areas using loudspeakers! But Swapo is doing just that today (Sunday, August 2) here in Rundu and we have kids who are studying for exams. – Immanuel, Rundu* SOME Swapo MPs warn NGOs and churches from engaging in election-educating people. Why don’t they go full out and stop the people from voting altogether? Then they wouldn’t have any reason to have any concerns about who supports who and not. If it can be done in China and Cuba and North Korea, those three bastions of friendship and democracy, then it can be done here as well! All in the name of ‘protecting the people’ (from themselves?), of course…City Fathers Please …* WE learners at Highline School at Goreangab are scared because boys of Saamstaan in Greenwell Matongo come to our school and wait for the boys outside and fight. City Police do something before they kill someone. * BURGLARY time three at Rocky Crest. We are tired of this City Police. Please take your route during working hours. They (thieves) are mostly at the playground loading and planning from there. We know they are operating from there. Only G4s is trying to do their job.GeneralYou should be taking notes* MAY I urge event organisers to always make enough copies of their speeches. It’s a shame that journalists fight for the speeches.- Their job is to take notes, so they shouldn’t be fighting over speeches to start with. – Newsdesk* COULD whoever has a dog school at Walvis Bay or Swakopmund please send your telephone number to the SMS page! Thank you!* ONGOMBO West had been ‘overtaken’ as a very productive farm. Now, four years later without any single dollar ‘grown’ there it was again needing to spend N$1,9 million on irrigation, water tanks, pumps, fences etc. Will all that be damaged, neglected or stolen again before the first tomato or melon can be harvested?- US CraneIn And From The Regions* PLEASE GRN, check the Karibib-Otjimbingwe gravel road, our relatives’ coffins are falling apart in transport.- Jens* ERONGO Regional Governor, please look after the service delivery at Otjimbingwe settlement. They offer poor service.- JonathanWe need more take-aways* PLEASE Hungry Lion, come and open a branch here at Walvis Bay please. We have a lack of take-aways at the coast. Please.* ONDANGWA Town Council, do you really have town planners that are qualified? * PLEASE One Africa TV, we the Arandis people need your services. * I AM greatly disappointed in the Otjiwarongo State hospital. I am not against their ability, but some of the student nurses are not very polite to the patients. The Ministry of Health must please look into it.* ENOUGH is enough with Erongo Regional Council’s empty promises regarding the rural electricity programme at Otjimbingwe. – Jonathan* I HAVE a problem with building together in Eenhana. I applied for a loan with the town council at the beginning of 2008. I still have not got an answer. CEO please I want an answer.* RUNDU Town Council do something about the streets in the location. There are no stop signs and the stopping area is full of sand causing cars to get stuck or just drive through without stopping. Do something before more accidents happen.Good Idea?* GOOD idea to donate N$10 by all taxpayers? No, it’s not a good idea! The Government is already wasting lots of tax money on crooked deals and luxury offices for former politicians and who knows what else! What on earth makes you think that the politicians will take better care of more money when they can’t even handle what they already got? Wake up to reality! * THE idea of donating N$10 every month is not bad though. However, the Namibian Government can afford to create employment for all the citizens, only if the million of dollars are not being consumed by some selfish individuals. Who are we going to trust with this money that we donate because it will be eaten by the same people again. What a shameful government we have. The country is heading to civil war and poverty. * I REFER to SMS, July 30, general section. I think taxpayers already give more than enough for community development, projects, youth, etc. That’s why we experience increasing misappropriation and corrupt practices with our public funds. Rather we should look into that, then our youth will have better future. Advertising* UNILEVER SA was recently ordered to remove one of their products, Sunlite 2 in 1 washing powder from the market by the Advertising Standards Authority of SA. This was due to a wrong claim on the package of the product that reads, ‘we make it with pure, natural ingredients’. Sunlite 2 in 1 is still on the market in the same package, especially here in Namibia. Now, what is our own Adverting Standards doing in this regard?- EH- There is no such body in Namibia at the moment. – NewsdeskRunning The Show* OUR Government by now should have realised that there is no free lunch in life. This is most obviously proven by the shady and dubious business deals between China and our Government. It’s payback time! And how!!* MINISTRY of Works, on May 25 I counted 674 vehicles between Windhoek and Okahandja. When will the highway come to this desolate part of the world!- Worrier* SAFETY and Security, it is not only Police houses but also prison members’ houses. These are very old. Can’t they make a decision that members can buy the houses because the GRN doesn’t have money for maintenance. NBC* NBC, report African news from an African perspective and stop giving us news from a CFI perspective, and get footage from SABC, ZBC, BTV, because we are tired of always hearing the name of CFI (Canal France International) * THE NBC Afrikaans and English sports services, why are you not giving live scores of local sports like Premier League rugby and soccer on Saturday afternoons?Tone it down a bit* NBC news flashes background sound is louder than the presenter’s voice. Why can’t this be adjusted?* NO network for radio in the area of Chetto to Mashambo. NBC take note, I mean both radio and TV.* NBC TV programmes are so carnal, there is no trace of anything spiritual. After watching them, instead of moving closer to God you regret switching on your TV. I wonder how rape, violence, suicide, etc, will stop. The entire board needs deliverance. God have mercy. Peace.Education* MATRIC Class of 1992, Jan Jonker Afrikaner what about a mini reunion? Where are you guys? Contact me at 081-298-3338.* IOL please do something! It is long time since I registered for my reception course at Walvis Bay and my application was approved on June. Up till now I haven’t received my books. When I called them they said books had not yet come from Windhoek to Walvis Bay. When am I going to have my books? Please Trustco do something!Labour Issues* MINISTRY of Education, tell the nation why management posts in Erongo region are not advertised? People are pulled from schools and given positions.* OFFICE of the President look at the issue of jobs. We have lots of graduates and they are on streets all over Namibia. Do something and please screen all the public servants to produce papers. We are tired of being discriminated against in the job market because of experience.- Concerned Namibian, Elvis Chenjes, Katima* CAN the Labour Resource and Research Institute please research German, British, American and Afrikaner investments and labour conditions in our country. This information might even be more useful to our born-frees than the study on the Chinese who are seen as a threat to Western interests in Africa. Herbert Jauch please consider this for the sake of the workers too. * HONOURABLE Hage Geingob remember us the former Amcom workers who are retrenched long time ago we are still on the streets especially in the north. Special attention please!Health Matters* CAN the Ministry of Health please create a toll-free line so that we can report shops selling rotten food. * WE at Oranjemund need Minister Kamwi to come and visit the state clinic. Here (allegedly) HIV-AIDS counselling (trainees) act like nurses, walk around with noisy high heels, people at hostels are given free medicine without coming to the clinic, etc. Give the jobs to people who are willing to serve the nation. There are a lot of unemployed citizens out there! Service Please* BANK Windhoek, your so-called cellphone banking is annoying most of the time. I hate the words saying error at WASP when I dial our service number. Please do something immediately. It really helps us who live at countryside. – Haule wokEtanangela* NATIS at Ongwediva, your service is just too slow. Employ workers that are more computer literate please.* PLEASE Legal Shield, stop your reminder. It’s irritating paid-up members. Thanks.Keep them working for us* BANK Windhoek Ondangwa Branch, your ATM on the left side, it’s not been functioning properly for long enough now, please replace it. You service at tellers is very good and fast, but at enquiries it is very slow and some workers seem to be incompetent. Please manager do something your service is far behind compared to other branches of your bank that I visited.* I AGREE on the issue on KFC. I bought a bucket, and also received 18 pieces, in Ondangwa. Please investigate.* MULTICHOICE should consider making a toll free number for subscription queries. Customers are compelled to pay for calls to enquire why Multichoice is not delivering the services they are paid to deliver.- KC Bravo.* FNB Main Branch Windhoek, your service is poor in the bob card department. Please provide the service you advertise.- Concerned customer.Shalli* GENERAL Shalli keep your head high we believe in you.- Piet van Zyl, Namibia Gate + Fence
