SMS for Friday 10 JULY 2009

* PLEASE can the CEO or the spokesperson of the Ministry of Mines and Energy explain to us how the under-recovery and over-recovery works when it comes to the increasing and decreasing of fuel prices, I am sorry if it has already been done.

* TAXI pirates. To the majority of the taxi drivers out there, it’s interesting to note your frustration with the pirate taxis. Now you know how we feel every time you run a red robot, skip a red light or block an intersection. The question is who are the pirates? The illegal taxis, or the unroadworthy badly driven ones.

Food For Thought * CAN’T we set up x-ray equipment at all entry points (borders) to nab some of these coke (drugs) thugs, to prevent a catastrophic situation from happening in our society. – Concerned brother* INTEAD of establishing an ‘interception centre’ for spying, why can’t we establish a laboratory to test communicable diseases? We rely on South Africa’s NICD.Bouquets And Brickbats
* THANKS to the Windhoek Central Hospital (intensive care unit) for your excellent work and action. Dr Amawaa, Sr Esau, you did a good job. Keep it up.- Shipanga family.* WELL done NBC news crew! You`ve listened to the public opinions. The new look is great! – HN* HOW come nearly half of every NBC bulletin is copied from The Namibian. Check it out on the master tape. A compliment to you, but can’t they write their own news and did they ask you for permission. They also don’t credit you. A good example is Wednesday, July 8, where NBC quoted the first 6 paras of your lead story verbatim? * WE are 100 per cent behind you NUNW for considering taking the Windhoek Municipality to court for their unjustifiable and self-enrichment increased tariffs! Please go ahead. Do not be demoralised! Another town where you must visit their office is Ondangwa. They have also indicated that they will increase their tariffs but if you look at the town streets, cleanliness and overall development are a complete disaster! Please come and see for yourself, study their budgets and expenditure and compare with the way the town is taken care of, then you will understand. Please do, I strongly urge you!* I AM a commuter who lives in Ondangwa and works at 0shikango. I just want to give a big hand to the taxi drivers operating on that road. They used to overload passengers but now they have really changed. At least now we can sit safely and comfortably. Thank you guys, we appreciate this. To other taxi drivers countrywide please take this brilliant example from them. Oshikango to Ondangwa drivers please keep up the good work, I salute you! – Haule waKambatima* I AM greatly disappointed in the Namibian media. I’m not against the fact that they paid tribute to the late Michael Jackson. In fact I think it a good idea. My disappointment comes in the fact that the media respect, remember and pay final respects to international people (celebrities) but not the local ones. I understand we are in a way thanking MJ for visiting Namibia but what of our own artists/ musicians who live, perform and take pride in the land of their mothers? Who will give them the attention they deserve? I don’t want to mention names (may their souls rest in peace) but I remember a dozen (if not more) artists who passed on to the next life but none received the attention MJ received. Buy copies of their DVDs, double requests for their songs, place something in that day’s newspaper, have a show in memory of … I think Namibians don’t deserve the energy, help, talent, goodwill our local artists are dishing out. Thank you!Politics * OUR State President promised, during his inauguration, that he will be the president of all Namibians. What is happening now is that he is announcing the Government projects at the rallies of his political party, as if these are projects meant for his political party members and sympathisers only. Is this not self-contradictory?* GWEN Lister, why don’t you publish my SMS which reads as follows? Is it because I am talkng about you editors who have joined Swapo? I’m afraid if G Lister, C Jacobie and Hamata, have joined the so called mighty Swapo party, God save Namibia, there is no more democracy. Editors are now puppets. – HadampaPLEASE note that Gwen Lister remains an independent and has never been a member of ANY political party. – NewsdeskPolitics In General
* PRESIDENT of Sudan welcome in Namibia. Why not? World politics of today is not about justice or human rights. Sometimes not even about a national interest ( war in Iraq) rather to serve individual concerns. Most war criminals are living quite comfortably in so-called western democratic societies. So, welcome Mr President!- S Filipovic
In And From The Regions
* CERTAINLY there’s a need for more journalists to adequately cover the Caprivi Region. So many sins and scenes go unreported. A young man opened fire into a girls dormitory at Sanjo SSS (Bukalo) injuring some and sending terror at the school and society at large. A number of ritual killers were arrested but no trace of any of these in the media.* ONE of those Notable Quotes ‘The abducted children are usually between two and five years old’ in our The Namibian newspaper on page 4 for Tuesday, July 7 2009, is 100 per cent true about what is happening specifically in theCaprivi and Namibia in general! That is the tip of an iceberg and an eye opener. No wonder the politicians and businessmen are silent about the body parts in the region! They must pronounce their neutrality and torment the victims whilst there is still time because one day they will be hit harder below their belts. – Worried Doctor * I WOULD like to kindly appeal to the Town Council of Katima Mulilo to look into road development matters. We all know that roads are the centre of major development to any town wanting to attract potential investors. Is that too much to ask. Please help the town.Education
* IT is so bad to see a principal dropping his kids at a school other than his in the same circuit with the same grades .* CERTAIN private schools act as if they are above the Constitution and the Education Act. Learners are expelled without relevant procedures being followed. Corporal punishment is an every day occurrence. Ministry of Education, call them to order.* CAN the Office of the Prime Minister please give us (teachers) the decision they made regarding the ACE. We are getting tired of waiting.* IS it true that learners over the age of 16 without an ID or proof of an ID application will not be allowed to write the JSC exams?* COULD the person who referred to Namcol’s study materials as ‘First Aid materials’ be more specific please. – Namcol, Keetmanshoop * VISION 2030 will never be a success. With Etsip hundreds of teachers are on workshops week after week. There is no coordination among Ministry of Education divisions, NIED, PQA, Hamu, DNEA. Learners are without teachers for weeks on end. MoE what is going on?* CAN the Ongwediva College change the English admission symbol from D to E please. It’s so hard to get a D, or higher symbol in grade 12. English is not our mother language!Running The Show
* PLEASE Mr Speaker of Parliament, when are you bringing back the children’s parliament because those kids will once again teach our VIP comrades how to debate national pressing issues, rather than just sleeping, jumping up and all talking about imperialists, colonialism, whites, foreigners and not attending parliamentary sessions.Service Please
* I DON’T agree with the SMS about the poor services of Bank Windhoek in Oranjemund. I have been a very satisfied and happy client for more than 15 years and had never experienced any problems with Bank Windhoek. Five years ago I moved from Oranjemund to Rosh Pinah and I am still doing business in Oranjemund because I only pick up the phone and the friendly and reliable staff of Oranjemund are willing to be helpful. I am proud to be a client of Oranjemund Bank Windhoek. * ALL the allegations made on July 8 are not true. The service is of high quality. Viva. Bank Windhoek Oranjemund. Keep it up.- Andries* CAN FNB in Oshakati please just improve the
ir service. It takes almost three hours just to deposit. The service operators are very few and very slow. Only two operators are found at the desk of five. Maybe FNB should as well think of giving employment where it’s due.- Concerned citizen*WHY doesn’t MTC introduce a transfer of SMSes programme to its already existing transfer of airtime? It would work like this:- Money amount#SMS amount (nil upwards)#Cellphone no. Then dial 137. I have over 900 SMS`s on my phone which I can do nothing with.- GRL* SERVICE provider at CBS, Ausspanplatz, some of your employees serve clients while releasing clouds of cigarette smoke in their faces. Are you ignorant of the health hazard posed by smoke?* OUTSURANCE, I do not understand why this company has to advertise so perfectly, but I have to wait for a month for a geyser to be replaced.* ENGEN Namibia. The service at Oneshila Service Station in Oshakati and the Engen at the northern entrance of Ondangwa is not up to standard. No correct tyre pressure is given due to faulty and ancient equipment. Often no tyres can be pumped. Tyre pressure is one of the most important factors for road safety! We do not want to have accidents!! Please improve!* NAMPOST Opuwo seems to be under-staffed resulting in long and overcrowded queues and slow service especially during the week of pensioners’ pay out. Please improve! – Regular customer.*BANK Windhoek Otjiwarongo, your services are not good.. Only one ATM, which is off most of the time and only two tellers who are running to the back office for most transactions!
* PLEASE Generation Shopping Centre at Oluno improve your services. The toilets are dirty and don’t flush. There is also a bad smell from the sewerage drainage.City Fathers Please …
* THERE is a beggar at Shoprite opposite Monte Christo service station in Okuryangava who throws stones at passers-by. He has thrown a stone at my sister and has even thrown a brick at my sister-in-law – almost hitting her head. We are now afraid to go to Shoprite. City Police please do something. * PLEASE Windhoek Municipality, help us to have electricity in our houses. We are also people like others and it’s unfair for us to stay in dark areas. * CAN any law-abiding Namibian please tell the nation why the ‘still humble cries’ of fellow law-abiding citizens are falling on deaf ears re: the shebeen issue. Shebeens are still mushrooming at an alarming rate, unruly behaviour is still continuing, they still operate until whatever early morning hours they feel like. Not to mention the noise levels. For goodness sake please City Fathers, help our people. Shut down all shebeens. Or will I be wrong if I get the impression that ‘all’ of the people who are supposed to take action against this evil, are owners of shebeens?- Fed up MartinRoad Hogs
* DRIVER of a silver Hyundai Accent registration N 103-063 W, please do not throw your cigarette butts out of the window. It is winter and your cigarette buts can cause major ‘veld brande’ with disastrous results. Use your vehicle’s ash tray.- Naz* TO the driver of N10690S, M-Benz 280SE, you are endangering the lives of other road users, by accelerating when other users wanted to pass by – at 17h24 on July 5.Rest In Peace MJ *I WOULD like to thank NBC for broadcasting the Michael Jackson memorial live, as well The Namibian newspaper for the front page story, in so doing you gave each Namibian fan a chance to join the world in mourning the greatest artist. RIP MJJ, we miss you but will not forget you.- JTJ* HE was a man in the mirror and he was like only a night star could be sparkling in the sky. The water of his legacy is still streaming around world. He was a different person on the planet, his musical characters were, his performance on stage was a miracle. He will be immortalised for many years to come, even his departure left us in storm of tears.* THE lady announcer on Kudu FM 103,5 at 13h20 on Tuesday, please for courtesy’s sake you did not need to tell Namibia that you are no fan of M Jackson. You could have simply given the times for viewing Jackson’s memorial services on TV and left it at that. * ENOUGH already about Michael Jackson! Good heavens! The reverence some people have for this man is beyond understanding.- Theo* THANKS to The Namibian again, again and again for your coverage of Michael Jackson. He was truly an icon and a great humanitarian. We all have our frailties, but there is a lot we can learn from the life of Michael Jackson that can help make the world a better place. Despite the critics and the haters, he never gave up caring. Nor should we.Labour Issues
* TO the Employers’ Federation and Public Service Commission: With all due respect, please revise your decision not to promote people into managerial positions without a tertiary qualification, irrespective of number of years experience the person has. We have people with experience of up to 30 to 40 years, but they cannot climb the ladder due to a lack of qualification, but they are well experienced. They are now demotivated and not eager to transfer their knowledge to the graduates. This is not harmonizing working relations. For employers to be inclusive, please advertise positions as follows: Grade 12 with ten or fifteen etc years of experience or Diploma with so number years of experience or B -degree with so number years of experience in order to cater for all to advance. Please do not discriminate against these people because it is due to the colonial era that they did study up to tertiary level. Do something before these people with valuable experience go to waste. A piece of paper does not do the job but a person does.- Disgusted Employee, WindhoekGeneral
* BE ALERT! There is a certain insurance company which needs ‘no middleman’ to get clients onboard. You phone them for a quote, get bombarded with questions and before long they deduct the quote amount from your bank account! Nothing was agreed upon, I asked for a quote! Beware, take care and always check your bank account statements!* I THINK the government and private sectors should create more job opportunities. Unemployment also contributes to crime. We thank you. * PLEASE you guys at The Namibian tell us the different between newsdesk and news editor? Because sometimes you confuse us when you give feedback to some of our SMSes.- Ampundja Petrus, Walvis Bay- Newsdesk is when we’ve asked around for an answer, and News Editor is when the News Editor, Jean Sutherland, answers personally.* I’M responding to Xau`s SMS of July 2 about an Arabic school. If he wants to learn Arabic he can reach me at 081-221-7250* DELTA students please stop trashing the pavement outside my house in Olympia with your empty cans and chip packets.Lost and Found

* A WISE man once said the following : Don’t always ask what your country has to do for you – rather ask what you can do for your country! Sure, there is a lot to complain about, but all those who send SMSes, be honest. What are you doing to make Namibia better? Just playing with fancy cells definitely won`t help. Lift up your lazy buttocks and use hands and brains. * ALL supermarkets should charge for plastic carry bags. People need to start bringing their own shopping bags as well as recycling. If we pay for the bags the shops can afford to use thicker plastic which is more practical to re-use and recycle. – Belinda* CAN our Nascam and Sanlam music award add kizomba categories please. Because now there are a lot of kizomba musicans like Atushe, Max Shiimi, Mum Jenease, Dj-Nana, Lady k and many more. Please do something before the awards.- Kashako, Windhoek..
