THIRTEEN-YEAR-OLD Olaf Beiter has signed with SC Borea Dresden from Sport Klub Windhoek, the Namibian club announced yesterday.
Beiter spent his May holiday in Germany, where he was invited for trials by the famous Hoffenheim Club. After this three-week stint there, he was invited by SC Borea Dresden to show his talent during a international youth tournament in Hamburg. During that tournament, he played against teams like Herta BSC Berlin, Hamburg SV, Hansa Rostock and various Danish representatives. Beiter impressed Dresden and subsequently got an offer to become a fixed member of their team. The youngster will leave the SKW U/15 team to begin a new adventure at the German side on August 24.The left-footed youngster already made headlines at the start of his football career when he played his first U/7 tournament as a five-year-old and became one of the top goal scorers in his age group. Since then many games have been played, many tournaments won and the medals proudly displayed in his room are proof his talent. Beiter is also said to have made an impression on national U/17 coach Christy Guruseb. According to the youngster, his time in Germany was an eye-opener. ‘Europe opened my eyes in the way football is practiced and played at a much higher level than at home. The Academies there are specialised on soccer, they train five times a week and each weekend matches are played on a very competitive level. For me it is a big honour and also a challenge to survive this hard but fantastic world of football and life overseas,’ he said. His parents, Rolf and Silke Beiter, are said to be sad to see him leave but they are immensely proud of their only child’s achievement. ‘Olaf had to compromise many weekends – instead of being with his friends he spent lots of extra hours trying to improve himself,’ said Silke.Olaf was born in 1998 and joined the SKW Football Academy in 2008.
