Situde missing with thousands

A TOP football official from the Karas Football Region is alleged to have vanished with at least N$41 000 which was meant as prize money for the league winners in the Southern Zone First Division.

Michael ‘Culture’ Situde, who is based in Luederitz, is the regional chairperson of the Karas Football Region, into whose account the prize money was deposited a few days after the award ceremony of the Namibia Football Association (NFA) on July 23. A reliable source has told The Namibian Sport that the Karas Football Region’s bank account had been emptied. The Southern Zone league winners, Black Morocco Chiefs (BMC) are still waiting for their N$12 000, and the second-placed team, Marco Atlantic Bucks, also have not received their N$8 000 yet.The team that ended third, Bee Bob Brothers, received their N$6 000 in cash from Situde, which is against the rules of the NFA.NFA official Titus Kunamwene confirmed yesterday that an amount of N$47 000 was paid into the account of the Karas Football Region, which was supposed to issue cheques to the winning teams. An amount of N$9 000, which was supposed to go to the referees in the region, has also not been paid yet.Kunamwene said it was against the NFA’s rules for Situde to pay Bee Bob Brothers in cash, as they were supposed to receive a cheque.N$5 000 of the N$47 000 should have been divided among the top goal scorer, best match official and the most disciplined team.Kunanwene said the NFA had been trying unsuccessfully to get hold of Situde since July, when the teams enquired about their money. The Namibian Sport could not trace Situde to obtain comment from him either.A BMC official blamed the NFA for not following up the issue promptly after the teams informed it of the missing money.”They have kept us in the dark and we’re just saying that they are investigating the issue. We have been waiting for a long time now and we want our money,” he said.He said the team, which is currently involved in promotion playoffs in a quest to secure a place in the premiership next season, needed the money to pay some of its debts incurred during the pre-season training camps.A reliable source has told The Namibian Sport that the Karas Football Region’s bank account had been emptied. We have been waiting for a long time now and we want our money,” he said.He said the team, which is currently involved in promotion playoffs in a quest to secure a place in the premiership next season, needed the money to pay some of its debts incurred during the pre-season training camps.
