Show jumping national championships on in city

The Windhoek Gymkhana Club will host the First National Bank National Championship Show Jumping tournament tomorrow and Sunday.

More than fifty riders will compete for the honour of National champion in three classes, children, juniors and adults. According to Riaan van Rooyen, chairman of the club, jumping of high quality can be expected.”The riders are competing for the top honours and the horses are still fresh as there have not been a lot of tournaments” he said.At the opening ceremony tomorrow afternoon, all the horses will be on parade and the club will launch its development fund.Minister of Sport John Mutorwa will be the guest speaker at the ceremony which will start at 14h30.”As a club we want to reach out to others who may not have the opportunity to come into contact with horses”, Dr Anselm Voigts, the show chairman said.The first institution which has already started to benefit from the development fund and the outreach programme is the Dagbreek School.It is the third year that First National Bank is the main sponsor of the event.”We are proud to be associated with such a well-organised and dignified sport.These are qualities that FNB are associated with”, Ingrid Goeieman, sponsorships co-ordinator of FNB said.The tournament will start at 08h00 on both days and will continue to 16h30.The public and horse lovers are invited to join the Windhoek Gymkhana Club.According to Riaan van Rooyen, chairman of the club, jumping of high quality can be expected.”The riders are competing for the top honours and the horses are still fresh as there have not been a lot of tournaments” he said.At the opening ceremony tomorrow afternoon, all the horses will be on parade and the club will launch its development fund.
