OSHAKATI – Simon Shileka won the Hunters Cycling Race between Oshakati and Oshikuku on Saturday.
As the champion, Shileka, who won the 60-kilometre cycling race, took home a road race bicycle worth N$12 000 and other prizes.
Alfred Israel and Valombola Johannes Mario (last year’s runner-up) were second and third respectively.
The fourth and fifth prizes went to Zecka Fonsech and Ndeimona Salom, while 58-year-old Cosmos Sebastian from Onambabi village near Oshakati was awarded for being the oldest person in the race.
Johanna Ashimbanga from Eunda village in the Omusati Region was the only woman competing among the men, and the first woman contestant since the inception of the championship three years ago.
‘It is my first time to participate, and I am proud, because I represented my fellow women, especially women of the Omusati Region where I come from,’ said Ashimbanga, who was the last to cross the finishing line.
