Shared Pool Concerns

Shared Pool Concerns

I READ with interest and great concern in the your paper of Friday August 13 the letter titled “Aquatic Centre Concerns” As a parent of young children and a ratepayer of the City of Windhoek it is disturbing to hear that the City of Windhoek could develop a swimming pool that could be a hazard and of great risk to the other children who want to enjoy swimming at the new envisaged pool at Olympia.

My worry is that the City of Windhoek might consider that the letter is written by some “crank” and might not take it seriously. From the article it certainly appears that the author Graeme Bruce is well qualified and experienced to comment on recreation facilities and water safety. My suggestion is that the City of Windhoek delay deepening of the swimming pool to 4 metres until they can get professional advice from an international life saving association. In view of the concerns raised by Mr Bruce, if the Windhoek City Council goes ahead and deepens the pool without taking appropriate professional advice, they are neglecting their duty and responsibility as elected representatives of the residents of Windhoek. Most importantly they may be creating a potential life threatening danger to the children of Windhoek. There might be alternative ways to support valuable work of the Underwater Federation without endangering the lives of our children.Ellen Ndeshi Namhila WindhoekFrom the article it certainly appears that the author Graeme Bruce is well qualified and experienced to comment on recreation facilities and water safety. There might be alternative ways to support valuable work of the Underwater Federation without endangering the lives of our children.Ellen Ndeshi Namhila Windhoek
