PLANS by murder suspect Lazarus Shaduka to make a formal application for bail were halted by his legal team yesterday.
Shaduka, who was charged with the murder of his wife on Tuesday, has been in Police custody since Sunday night. He was arrested after arriving at the Paramount Clinic in Windhoek with his fatally wounded wife, Selma Shaimemanya Shaduka (33).She had been shot in the back of the head with a 9 mm Baretta pistol.Earlier reports erroneously had it that a shotgun had been used in the killing. It is understood that Shaduka, when he arrived at the clinic, claimed that his wife had committed suicide. He is represented by lawyer Titus Ipumbu from the legal firm Titus Ipumbu Legal Practitioners.Ipumbu told Magistrate Elsie Schickerling in the Windhoek Magistrate’s Court yesterday that there were “a few issues” that needed sorting between the State and the defence before they could proceed with his client’s bail application.A new date for when this will happen is yet to be decided.Shaduka’s case in the meantime has been postponed to September 4.He will remain in custody at the Windhoek Police Station until then.Family members of the late Shaimemanya attended yesterday’s proceedings.
