Seven vie for NPL post

THE Namibia Premier League has short-listed seven candidates for the position of chief executive officer, The Namibian Sport established yesterday.

NPL spokeswoman Meke Namindo confirmed the short-listed candidates and said that interviews for the position will start this morning.’The panel is expected to meet this morning from 08h00 and the interviews will continue until well in the afternoon. I cannot give you a time-frame, but I suspect they should be done by 14h00,’ she said.The candidates who have been short-listed are Mathew Haikali, Lennox Chibahwile, Willie Swartz, Eliphas Shipanga, Gerald Gunther, Emmanuel Namaseb and Kavezemburuka Veii-Mujoro.Haikali is a former director of the Media Institute of Southern Africa Namibia Chapter and current Fifa Futuro instructor. He has been in involved in football on both the administrative and managerial level, especially in the lower divisions and has credible football knowledge.Willie Swartz is a football administrator and has a political portfolio in the Hardap Region, while Eliphas Shipanga is also a former football administrator. Shipanga was also the secretary general of the Namibia National Olympic Committee (NNOC).Namaseb is involved with MTC premiership side Orlando Pirates, while Chibahwile, Gunther and Mujoro-Veii have no proven record of football administration, but will merely be considered for their academic credentials. The panellists are NPL chairman, Johnny Doëseb, African Stars official Irvin Ndjavera, former NPL Management Committee (MC) member Moses Ikanga and Escher Luaanda who currently serves as an MC member.Others are Namibia Sports Commission (NSC) chief administrator Rusten Mogane, Southern Stream First Division chairman Kenneth Goaseb and Harold Gaioab. corry@namibian.com.na
