Set-son and the Mighty Dreads to launch ‘War Make No Peace’

Set-son and The Mighty Dreads will officially launch their fourth album titled ‘War Make No Peace’ on Friday, at Zenso Lounge in the capital.

The album is a follow up to three successful albums, ‘Kula Umone’, ‘Wisdom Fundamental’ and ‘The Drama of Cain and Abel’.’War Make No Peace’ comes at a time when there are many conflicts around the world and the album aims to highlight the fact that tolerance and dialogue should be considered above confrontation and strife. The launch coincides with Cassinga Day, which is a historical day for the band, especially Set-son whose close friend, Mwala, narrowly escaped death on that fateful day.The Mighty Dreads were formed in 1993 by Set-son Wahengo, and was then known as The Young Dread. Set-son is the founder and still is the leader, composer, rhythm guitarist and lead singer of the band. At first they sang only reggae music, but later found the richness of their traditional Oshiwambo music from the late Tate Kwela, late Meme Nanghili Nashima and others. Through research, Set-son created the genre called shambo music, which is now very popular and is recognised at the Namibia Annual Music Awards (Namas), something that makes the ‘Godfather of Shambo’ very proud. The Mighty Dreads perform regularly at national events and their own events.Set-son also performed at the World Expo in Shanghai, China, in 2010 and at the Kennedy Centre in Washington, Baltimore and New York in the USA in 2007.
