NEARLY one kilogram of dagga was confiscated at the Swakopmund roadblock on Wednesday from a man previously convicted of drug possession.
As a result, Edward Hinanifa (45) will now have to spend the next year in prison on a charge of possession of drugs. Swakopmund Magistrate Hannelie Prinsloo yesterday sentenced Hinanifa to two years’ imprisonment, with one year suspended.Hananifa was a passenger on a truck that arrived at Swakopmund from Omaruru on Wednesday morning. Police at the roadblock outside Swakopmund ordered the truck to pull over and searched the luggage of its occupants. In Hananifa’s bag, 955 grammes of dagga worth N$2 865 was found. He was arrested on the spot. This was not his first clash with the law. On April 20 this year, he was sentenced on a similar charge – possession of 262 grammes of dagga worth about N$825 – to pay a fine of N$2 000 or spend 150 days in prison. He paid the fine then.
