A family of six is the latest to be hospitalised after consuming cassava at Muveve village in the Kavango West region on Monday.
The family members, aged four, 10, 16, 32 and 35, as well as a pensioner, are being treated at a district hospital in the region.
The latest incident follows a similar case in which six children were admitted to the Nyangana District Hospital, reportedly with food poisoning, on Friday.
The minors ate the plant while playing in the bush near their homestead at Kashire village. They have since been discharged from the hospital.
In the latest incident, Kavango West regional chief inspector Raimbeth Muronga says the victims complained of stomach cramps, nausea and vomiting upon arrival at the hospital.
“Four family members spent the night at the Bunya Health Centre for observation but were discharged on Tuesday.”
Two other family members were transferred to the Rundu Hospital and are in a stable condition, he says.
“No further complaints have been received, and the matter is being monitored closely,” Muronga adds.
