Second arrest in De Jager shooting

THE Police have arrested a second suspect in connection with the attempted robbery and murder of businessman Dries de Jager in Windhoek’s Northern Industrial Area on Monday.

The 38-year-old male suspect was allegedly the driver of the getaway car that fled the scene after his two accomplices robbed De Jager of about N$200 000 in staff wages and shot him in the back.De Jager (68), the owner of HAMS Security, died upon arrival at the hospital.One of the suspects was shot in the thigh when a HAMS security guard chased after the two. The stolen N$200 000 was found on him. He was arrested and is still in hospital under Police guard. The second suspect made it to the getaway car, which sped away.Police told The Namibian that the getaway car driver was arrested at BJ Motors in Katutura at around lunchtime yesterday.The getaway car – a blue BMW – has not yet been found, but Police confirmed to The Namibian that the car is believed to have been linked to a robbery at Fruit & Veg City last month.
