Schools get business savvy

LOCAL publishing house Intermedia, together with the Institute of Chartered Accountants Namibia (ICAN), recently launched the ‘Business Digest Almanac: School Edition’.

The publication, which will be used as recommended reading in schools, covers various aspects of business life from entrepreneurship to legal issues and business strategy. The around 130 business-related articles were contributed by various members of Namibia’s business community.Intermedia is also responsible for the popular monthly business publication Business Digest. According to Gareth Amos, Managing Director of the Interact group of companies, the almanac is meant to inspire pupils to ‘not rely on someone else to give them a job’.He said it was a step by the private sector to help Government win the race on education. Martin du Plessis of ICAN said the N$250 000 investment in the almanac by the institute was a step to ‘addressing the shortage of chartered accountants in Namibia’. Five thousand copies of the book will be distributed to schools through the National Institute for Educational Development.
