FOR those unfamiliar with Namibia’s garden town, Okahandja, a glance at the municipality’s website will lead one to believe that the town is surrounded by snow-capped mountains and other exotic scenery.
The Namibian came across the Okahandja Municipality’s website on Monday and found three photos on the homepage that definitely were not taken anywhere in Namibia. Two of the images are of snow-capped mountains, and the third is of an exotic coastal location. The Namibian contacted Radon IT, the company that designed the website last year, and was told that the website had not been completed yet.According to the Radon official, the images on the website are placeholders, as the designers are still waiting for the municipality to provide them with the correct information and photos. Gerson Angula, head of the Okahandja Municipality’s information technology department, also said that the website is still under construction. When asked why the website had gone live on the internet while it was still under construction, Angula said it was done to allow for testing of the website. According to Angula, the municipality did instruct Radon to add a notice to the website indicating that it is under construction, and could not explain why there was no such notice on the website on Monday and Tuesday.By yesterday, a notice had been uploaded that the site is under construction and that it should be completed by March 1.Angula said they are in the process of gathering information regarding the garden town as well as current and historical photos for the website.
