BANK Windhoek has warned clients not to fall for SMSes informing them that they’ve won a game.
The fraudsters are sending SMSes to clients requesting them to call a specific number that starts with ‘088’ or ‘0088’ after having allegedly won a game. When calling the number, the client is asked to provide his banking details. Bank Windhoek said in a statement yesterday that it is aware of four different types of messages being sent out. One of the SMSes reads as follows: ‘Urgent: Congratulations!! The representative of the Bank Windhoek informs you that your cheque is ready. Call for free on this number……’’Clients are requested to ignore such messages and not to call the number provided in the SMS,’ the bank said. Bank Windhoek once again reminded all clients that it will under no circumstances communicate personal information with clients via email or SMS, nor will clients be requested to submit confidential information to the bank.
