Santos struggle, Arrows up

TIGERS squeezed Chief Santos into more misery with a 2-1 win at the Khomasdal Stadium in Windhoek, while Eleven Arrows elevated themselves into third spot with a 2-0 victory over Civics at Walvis Bay, in premiership matches played at the weekend.

Oshakati City settled for a 3-all draw against Mighty Gunners at Otjiwarongo, while on Friday, Black Africa’s Tollie van Wyk led his charges to a 2-0 win against Hotspurs in his first match as coach.
Tigers midfielder Rene Warner came off the bench to propel Tigers to victory in the second half, despite Santos leading 1-0 at halftime, through Clerence Naruseb.
Former Orlando Pirates midfielder Gregory Horaeb scored the opener for Tigers in a match played in perfect weather conditions.
The win has given Tigers some hope for better things to come and it can only get better if management decides to open the wallet and acquire more quality players.
The once powerful Santos side urgently needs to find alternatives if they aim to survive in the league they rejoined this season.
Santos are second from the bottom in the 12-team league with only three points from their seven matches.
At Walvis Bay, Arrows scoring machine Sheya Andimba gave his side the lead in the opening stages of the first half, with the sparkling Muna Katupose further consolidating it deep into the second half at the Kuisebmond Stadium.
The win moved Arrows into third spot on the log now with 13 points from their six matches, while Civics are fifth place with 12 points from seven matches.
Arrows havew ambitions to grab the league title from holders Orlando Pirates, who were due to meet Ramblers in a late match yesterday.

A POINT FOR GUNNERS

Mighty Gunners stood their ground on home turf, but this time at Otjiwarongo’s Paresis Secondary School field to settle for a 3-all draw against visiting Oshakati City, also on Saturday.
Gunners striker Stanley Kamaseipo scored twice to keep his side in contention, while a third was added through an own goal by City’s Paulus Kasuna.
Dawid Snewe’s side collected their first point for the season in a total of seven matches so far but that did not help much as they are still rooted at the foot of the table.
Gunners have conceded an astronomical 18 goals in the season so far, the highest, followed by Chief Santos (15) and Tigers (13).
Cascas Angula, Andreas Haimbodi and Raphael Nuumbembe all scored for City to take a point back to Oshakati.
On Friday, newly appointed Black Africa coach Van Wyk celebrated his first victory thanks to goals by Brian Bantam in the first quarter of the first half.
Van Wyk has been tasked to drag the team from the bottom half of the table into at least the top three this season.
BA chairman Boni Paulino decided to employ Van Wyk after the former Ramblers gaffer was clubless for close to two seasons.
It is still not clear if Van Wyk will bring in his long-time assistant coach Dove Fransman to help him out.
Paulino earlier said he would prefer the new coach to bring in his own assistant, but it looks as if current assistant coach Sign Nunge, who worked with Ronnie Kanalelo, will continue in that role.
