CAPE TOWN – South Africa’s cabinet supported the controversial R20-billion high-speed train, a senior government official said yesterday, brushing aside opposition from politicians.

“The national government wishes to emphasise that it supports this initiative,” government chief spokesman Joel Netshitenzhe told reporters after a cabinet briefing.
