JOHANNESBURG – A South African court on Wednesday postponed the sentencing of former Interpol president Jackie Selebi to August 2, to allow time to call for more witnesses.
Johannesburg High Court judge Meyer Joffe adjourned the court after hearing evidence from the defence aiming to mitigate the sentence.
Selebi was earlier this month found guilty of corruption for accepting illicit payments of N$1.2 million from convicted drug trafficker Glenn Agliotti.
He faces a minimum of 15 years in prison or a maximum of life imprisonment.
Selebi resigned as president of international police force Interpol in January 2008 after he was charged with corruption and defeating the ends of justice. He was found not guilty on the latter charge. – Nampa-AFP
