SA businessman down and out in Windhoek

THE security entrance of the South African High Commission served as sleeping quarters for an Angolan businessman last Wednesday night, after thieves reportedly stole his passport over the weekend.

Jose Joquim (29), a resident in South Africa for the past decade where he runs a travel agency, had come to Namibia in search of business opportunities. After being robbed in Oshakati on Saturday, however, Joquim ended up being stranded, claiming authorities were unwilling to help him return home. The Ministry of Home Affairs eventually granted him exit permission.Staff at the South African High Commission and at the Ministry of Home Affairs, while expressing sympathy for Joqium, said his temper and loudness had not helped his cause.’One could hardly get through to him. He has been very aggressive and antagonistic,’ South African High Commissioner Eunice Komane, told The Namibian.’If I was in fact rude, I must have had a reason for that,’ Joquim said later. When last seen, Joquim was again embroiled in a war of words, this time with the bus company whose bus he’d missed on Monday.
