She was the only athlete representing Namibia at the prestigious event, thereby putting Namibia on the map for waterskiing.
Rottcher was one of eight athletes nominated to compete in the female slalom waterskiing category. Despite having recently undergone surgery, she managed to run four buoys at a 14,25 meter rope at 55km/h in the preliminary round of the Open Women's category.
The World Games are an international sports event held every four years, in the year following each Summer Olympic Games. The event comprises sports and sporting disciplines that are not contested at the Olympic Games.
The World Games generate worldwide exposure for participating sports and provides a highly visible stage on which athletes from more than 100 countries compete for gold. Competing in front of such a large crowd for the first time was 'an experience of a lifetime,' Rottcher said.
Rottcher expressed her gratitude to the Namibian Waterski Federation and the Namibia Sports Commission, for making her participation at the event possible, as well as her sponsors, coach, and parents.
Rottcher said she hopes to be nominated for the next World Games that will take place in China in 2025 and expressed the wish that more Namibian athletes will have the opportunity to participate at the event.
