Rottcher breaks record after surgery

NATASCHA Rottcher is over the moon after recently breaking her national slalom waterski record at a competition in the United States of America.

The 24-year-old is particularly thrilled with her remarkable effort as it came so soon after a testing injury lay-off.

Due to knee injury and ankle surgery, she was unable to compete for an extended period, but started training late in the 2019 season after her recovery went well.

At only her second tournament following surgery, Rottcher broke the senior national record on 10 November at the Monte Carlo training centre in Clermont, Florida.

She bettered her previous mark of five buoys on a 12 metre line at 55km/h to two buoys on an 11m line at 55km/h, giving her a great boost for the 2020 season.

“This is only the beginning, and I couldn’t be happier,” said the blonde bombshell.

“I am over the moon to be breaking my record so early after my comeback, with such a high score! I feel great, and know that this isn’t all.”

Rottcher holds the African record, and is also the national open water women’s record holder at under-14, u17 and u21 level.

She feels stronger than ever, and confesses that the break did her well as she looks ahead to next season.

“I’ve only just started, and I cannot wait to be breaking more records, improving my scores, and compete at international tournaments, such as the European and African Championships in 2020,” she enthused.

“This year reminded me of how passionate I am about this sport, and how privileged I am to have the best set-up (ski lakes), coaches, sponsors (Red Bull Namibia) and daily training.”

She further expressed gratitude to her support structure, especially her family, for helping her through the trying times.

“I would not be where I am today without them,” Rottcher added.
