Rössing bursary recipients join ‘real world’ of mining

EIGHT Rössing bursary recipients who successfully completed their studies in 2009 were recently welcomed into the real world of mining by the mine’s senior management in Swakopmund.

Zebra Kasete, Rössing’s General Manager of Corporate Services, welcomed the graduates as new young and professional employees.’Our vision is to have the right people in the right roles doing the right jobs right, the first time,’ Kasete said. The new employees’ fields of study included Accounting, Mining, Engineering, Human Resources, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Environmental Sciences and Geology.According to Kasete, Rössing will spend about N$4-million on current and new bursary holders in 2010. The company awarded 12 new bursaries this year.Rössing has for most of its 33 years existence been offering a bursary scheme for tertiary students to qualify in fields that relate to its current and future business operations. Since 2005, the mine has already supported 66 students. In 2009 the company spent about N$18 million on training programmes for its employees, artisans and bursary holders.
