AN autopsy result has shown that a farm robbery suspect died of a heart attack a day after his arrest.
The police charged that the suspect, Donvin Ashlin Kaffer (27), was responsible for an assault and robbery on an elderly couple, Daniel and Denise Lofty-Eaton, at their farm Groendoring in the Klein Karas district. Denise Lofty-Eaton was stabbed multiple times during the attack.Confirming Kaffer’s death, Police Deputy Commissioner Rudolf Isaak said solid clues and good detective work led to the arrest at Otjiwarongo.Isaak said the suspect experienced breathing problems a few hours after his arrest and was taken to the Otjiwarongo State hospital, where he died. The police have recovered two cellphones, a rifle, two gold rings and 60 litres of petrol that were stolen during the farm attack, said Isaak.N$3 750 in cash was also stolen, but only N$900 was found in Kaffer’s possession when he was arrested.The couple’s 4×4 Toyota bakkie in which Kaffer allegedly fled the crime scene was found abandoned near Keetmanshoop a few hours after the robbery.According to Isaak, two other suspects were arrested in connection with the farm attack after the police had found some of the stolen items – a rifle and a cellphone – in their possession.
