Avid mountain bikers and conservation enthusiasts are set to depart on the Ride for Rhinos cycling safari from 24 to 28 May.

The event, supported by RMB and Wilderness, and organised by Venture Media, aims to raise funds for the Save the Rhino Trust (SRT) Namibia and Children in the Wilderness.

The two organisations are dedicated to rhino conservation and community projects in the region.

RMB marketing specialist Kawela Mule in a statement says the ninth annual cycling event is in aid of black rhino conservation in north-western Namibia.

“Over the past nine years, this remarkable event has successfully generated close to N$3,5 million for the Save the Rhino Trust and other organisations involved in rhino conservation and community conservation initiatives.

“As a testament to its growing popularity, the organisers have decided to host two back-to-back multi-day rides for the first time in 2023, offering a unique opportunity to only 18 riders per tour to participate,” she says.

Mule says participants will be cycling through extraordinary landscapes that encompass an important rhino conservation area.

Wilderness Namibia land and natural resources manager Johan Fourie says it is important to raise awareness for Namibia’s rhino population, underscoring the significance of community involvement and education in conservation efforts.

“The event serves as a platform for collaboration and future partnerships between corporates, influential Namibians, and SRT,” he says.

Fourie says participants will start at Wilderness’ Desert Rhino Camp and make their way through the Palmwag Concession in Damaraland.

“The daily rides cover approximately 40km to 50km, featuring challenging terrains, such as dry riverbeds and sand dunes, offering breathtaking views along the way.

“It is recommended that participants have moderate to advanced technical skills and fitness levels to fully enjoy the tour,” he says.
