FOUR cheetah cubs that were rescued in July this year – Polly, Tony, Mischief and Phil (photo) – have made great progress through rehabilitation efforts and are now in great health.
As they had to cope with a number of health challenges, they have been nicknamed ‘The Scars’, according to the latest newsletter of the Cheetah Conservation Fund (CCF). The cubs have been enjoying a new play tree placed in their yard, and are often either tearing around and wrestling with one another, or sleeping the hot day away in one great pile. Their mother was found dead, but the cubs were rescued by the CCF, which is situated 40 kilometres east of Otjiwarongo.’They get regular attention and care, however it still makes me so sad when I see them, but I am glad that we were able to save them,’ said CCF Director Laurie Marker. Meanwhile, five cheetahs from the CCF that were released on the NamibRand nature reserve in southern Namibia are doing well. CCF researchers there are following their movements physically and via satellite.
